My work is contract based and doesn't allow for time-off at all, really. I'll work from home starting 2 or 3 weeks after the birth and then I'll slowly resume my regular schedule. There will be a lot of playing it by ear.
I think where I work I have to take 1 week of pto first, then I can get 6 weeks of short term disability at 60% and up to another 5 weeks if I have enough pto saved up. Unfortunately they are changing up our pto/holiday/personal day time (and significantly cutting down the amount of pto we can have) so I dont really know how its all going to work out.
And @thaisac1 dont be offended but I'm kind of hating you right now... so jealous
ETA: DH gets 1 week of paid paternity leave where he works, but he does have tons of pto saved up so he will probably take at least 2 weeks initially and then take a day off here and there based on how busy things are at his work.
Come to Canada Canada needs more babies - population is aging. plus, if Donald Trump becomes president you may seriously consider migrating.
If he gets elected, I'll be there faster than you can say immigration. Hope healthcare certifications transfer easily
This is very true, a lot of people don't even know this fact. I'm ok with having an unpaid leave but I do think the US should offer more time off for working mothers. After multiple years of service to my company my job should not be in jeopardy if I don't return when my baby is only 12 weeks old. It's so pathetic!

If Donald Trump becomes president I am definitely moving to Canada. I'm already a citizen there anyway Hopefully that's still valid!
My boss called me last night-- this is the place that was only supposed to be closed for a month, back in September and still hasn't re-opened. He's basically starting my (unpaid) maternity leave.... Now. I'm still looking for another job, have been since the beginning if September, but I think since I won't be anywhere for at least six months, there won't be any sort of maternity leave in my future. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
@AEG84 thankfully I'll get specifics when we have open enrollment next week - but after STD I'll work a week or two for transition/closing out things so payments can come out of that check. Lots to think about and consider though!!
I'm from Canada. We get 15 weeks of mat then 35 weeks of parental so I'll go back to work when baby is one for two months then off for the summer (teacher)
I haven't directly confirmed with HR (I wanted to wait for the turn of the year, in case our benefits policy changes), but my understanding is that I'll get 6 or 8 weeks of STD at 100% of my current pay depending on how I deliver, but the first week of that I'll have to use PTO. I believe my vacation time stops accruing while I'm on leave, though, I'll end up with 3 to 5 days less PTO than I would have had total for the year if I hadn't taken time off (so really, it'll cost me 8-10 days of PTO instead of just 5). We've also got 4 weeks of paid parental leave, which I think gets tacked on to the end of my STD, so I'll be home for 10 to 12 weeks total.
My husband gets 1 week paid parental leave that doesn't count against PTO. This is his first week on the job, so we haven't gotten a great handle yet on how much PTO he'll have in April (not sure whether he gets the entire sum at the beginning of the year or has to accrue it as the year progresses), so we don't know whether it'll be possible to take additional time off or how much. He will NOT be FMLA eligible, though, so that's something we'll have to watch out for.

See you there! DH and I have *not so jokingly* discussed it if he wins haha.

I have definitely discussed this with DH, but unfortunately his kids and their mom live in Harlingen, so he half-jokingly suggested Mexico. I know what they do to people like me there, and if ever a state seceeds it'll be Texas, so we may have to take our chances!
I work at a medical marijuana dispensary in colorado! We just recently recieved health insurance (yay!!!) But no pto:( I get 6 weeks unpaid, but the insurance is amazing, didn't think it would happen!
I work for a small company, so technically there's no FMLA protection. I am trying to save vacation time, so most likely I will have 3 weeks paid and then 9 weeks unpaid. My husband, however, gets two months leave at full post that he can take back to back or separate - he can also take vacation time around that.
You have to tell your employer if you plan on breastfeeding and they take your word for it. They can always check your maternity book which you receive from the doctor. But nobody is out on a witch hunt to disprove.
16 weeks paid maternity leave with an additional 4 weeks if breastfeeding or multiples birth. Additional full-time parental leave of six months paid at social minimum wage (1800 euros per month). Additional vacation time accrued for one year (4 weeks). This is Luxembourg. I am eternally grateful.
Out of sheer curiosity- do you have to provide proof you are breastfeeding? That seems like a great extra benefit, but who controls it?!

@AmadorRose Your hubby is from the Valley???? Mine too! I lived there for a couple years and as crazy as Texas can be, the Valley is like a whole different state. I loved it, and loved the TexMex food. Around here, TexMex is actually Salvadoran food lol.
@Somersky if he were here, he would say something like "RGV represent" or "Yeah, 956!" Haha. MUCH different way of life way of life than the way I grew up (rural WI, where only white folk venture), but I'm really excited that my child will be more culturally diverse as a child than I was until I was in my 20's. I've learned a lot of Mexican dishes but I can't wait to have good tamales readily available!

If you venture down to Port Isabel/ South Padre, and I highly recommended that you do, go to Isabel's for the best breakfast burrito you'll ever have. It's as big as your face and glorious.
@k&elizabeth we went to south padre in early September - so beautiful! And Delia's has the best tamales after my MIL.
Yes! Fisherman's, White Sands, El Papa's... The island has amazing food. The best of fresh seafood and authentic Mexican. This is my dad's charter website https://www.fishpadre.com Definitely not a plug, I just think he's awesome and his captain bio that he wrote all by his "still owns a flip phone" self is adorable haha
I am able ( and will take) 12 weeks FMLA. But it's unpaid. I have 10 sick days and 3 personal and should have most so I'll get paid for a week or two. I also pay into short term disability that will pay a % for 8 weeks. I'm a teacher so I'll be off the rest of the year and my summer for a total of about 18 weeks (depending on if LO waits until my scheduled CS).
