Re: The Official Labor Watch Thread(L&D questions, concerns, and announcements)

  • Just had my 38 week appointment. She did an US to make sure she was head down and she is. She said my cervix feels softer but I'm still not dilated. She also said she never dilated until she went into labor, so that's good to know. I too thought the pain I was feeling this week would lead to some progress. I'll be 39 weeks on Monday so here's to hoping baby makes her debut next week sometime :)

  • My foot swelling is waaaaay down today. It's such a difference that the skin is really wrinkly from being so stretched out. Did anyone else notice that, and does the skin usually return to normal?
Yes. My ankles were huge from my potential pre-e and everything reshaped pretty quickly.

I lurk. I snark. I offer sound advice if you're not BSC. You may not like me. I'm okay with it.

  • @mrsgabus Oh dear, while I don't expect croc hunter impressions, I do get what you mean about the always trying to point out "lighter side" of everything. Which normally is amazing, but this is a time where comedy and the like wont be appreciated.
@dramaphile We weren't able to do actual classes, but some videos might be good since we're getting closer. The birth plan idea is great as well.

40+3 today! Currently at the Drs hoping all this pain I've experienced within the past week is some sort of progress, if not Dr will bring up the conversation of scheduling an induction  . Come on baby girl

How did the Drs go? I'm in the same boat 40+3 today and Drs tomorrow to see where I'm at and if we need to look at booking induction for next week. Not ideal but I suppose you just have to go with whatever happens.
    Shellie123,
Dr is on board with my original birth plan as I want to go into labor naturally so she is following up on Monday at 41weeks and as long as baby and myself are fine she will just continue doing back to back u/s to make sure fluid and my BP is all in the norm. However passing 41&4 result in a scheduled induction but she feels my body is doing this alone as cervix is very thin and a little lower than what it was at 39+3

  • Just a little lol to keep us entertained.
  • 39+6 today, also just had my first cervical check...ouch! Dr says I'm about 3-4 cm and at 80%! Made one more appointment for next week...if we make it! Hoping baby boy comes on his own...if not, induction for the 23rd! Good luck ladies!
  • Was scheduled for induction today at 4. The labor unit is too busy to accommodate me right now. So I am waiting for a call to let me know when I can come in. I just wish I had a time frame.
  • Had a second membrane sweep today. I'm 39.1 weeks pregnant. I'm hoping I'm going to go in to labor on my own. I'm being Induced sunday night.

After the second membrane sweep my insides are very sore. I feel like I've been beaten up down stairs. Everything is very sensitive. Never experienced it before. I've been having contractions here and there but nothing solid.

Fingers crossed for an all natural delivery and I go into labor on my own.

    Goodluck ladies!!!
  • 38 weeks today. 3+ cm and 80%. Midwife said she would be surprised if I make it to my due date on 11/27. We are ready whenever God graces us with little man's prescence
  • So I'm really hopeful that something happens over the weekend or this coming week as I'm slowly losing my mucus plug I started noticing it last night but wore panty liners today to see if it actually is and it is thicker than discharge and is tinged with a bit of blood ( staying hopeful and crossing fingers)
  • I have been sitting at 5 cm and 90% effaced for 2 weeks. I am ready to go! I have a scheduled induction for Sunday but am really hoping it happens naturally before than.
  • Serious insomnia 2nd night in a row because I'm so anxious for labor to start. I'm trying to keep my mind off of it, but every time I lay down it's all I can think about. Any tips? I am not looking forward to going into labor sleep deprived.
  • Baby is almost a day old. Still have club feet. Wah.

  • I LOVE not sleeping and my body feeling like this. I literally can't remember ever NOT feeling like this. Lol. Thank goodness for food. Hah.
  • So excited I can't sleep! Getting induced today at 41 weeks!

You may want to try unisom or benedryl just to give yourself a break. I was doing the same thing - literally every minute was focused on labor. Every twinge was possibly the first contraction. I tried some calming breathing exercises I found online and even just laid there thinking "in....out..." With every breath so I was focused on breathing instead of baby.

...but honestly I doubt I would have been able to truly sleep without my unisom...
  • I've been having contractions for 24 hours now. They are only 13 to 20 minutes apart. The contractions themselves have gotten stronger, starting to hurt, and lasting longer. It's almost 4:30am and I just want to sleep! DD turns 2 today and I'm suppose to have a little party. Starting to worry I'll have to cancel it as I might have to go into the hospital (which is an hour away).
  • Everyone of my friends who were due with their babies around the same time as me has had them. I am getting sadder by the day because even though I am having contractions and some very painful they are too irregular and I can still walk and talk through them. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I was super healthy throughout this pregnancy kept hiking, running up to 8.5 months. Now I just feel like an emotional whale. I really wanted a natural birth and I hate the idea that I might have to be induced this Thursday which still has the probability of not working immediately. I am very happy for my friends who had their babies but I feel sad that I haven't had mine yet. I am also worried about his health for being in there so long. I hope everything is ok. The midwives say he's super healthy, good heartbeat, active. I can't believe I am still pregnant: 40w 5d

You're not doing anything wrong! This is one of those things that is just totally out of our control.
  • I had to wait all night, but the hospital finally slowed down enough for me to come in for my induction! So excited! Although I barely slept last night, I'm sure I will be able to bap some.
  • Induction question for those who've had previous inductions with out water being broken first.. Did you end up having to have a c section due to no progress of cervix or effacement? If so, how long did you labor before having to get a c section or even if you didn't! TIA..

I'm in the same exact boat. 40w4d and being induced on Wednesday if she doesn't get rolling before then. Everyone I know, with the exception on 1, that was pregnant and die around the same time or even a few weeks after me has had their baby. I'm ready to meet my sweet girl and get this show on the road. Sending labor vibes your way!

  • Birth announcement! (a little late lol)
    EDD: 11-13
Lost my plug on Monday the 9th at 3:45 the Dr. on call said to stay home unless anything else were to happen due to me already being scheduled for a c-section due to our little girl having an elevated cord Doppler for the last month and a half and a possible sorry umbilical cord. I stated contracting around 4. They steadily got stronger and closer so we went to the hospital a little early. We had to be there by 9 anyways to start prep. Either way this little girl was arriving on the 9th lol c section was scheduled for noon but got pushed back for a distressed mother. Needless to say I had a vaginal birth with my son so having a c- section had me freaked. Thankfully my hubby kept me calm and at 1:52 we were blessed with a 6.9 lb like girl. Her cord was only 12 in. And wrapped around get neck. So thankful that was caught in the ultrasounds
  • Thanks for all the good vibes and talk. I am ignoring everyone that is asking me (literally 4 things this morning, let alone all week) if he's here yet. No he's not, clearly he's not ready and all the red leaf tea, evening primrose, bizarre 15 minute nipple stimulation is not going to coax him out. He will be here hopefully on the day or day after inducement on the 19th. Talked to my dad and he made me feel better saying nobody is an expert on this and doctors should always add 2 weeks from due date so this doesn't happen to people. But for future reference he said add 10 days and give that to people as due date so they are not driving me mad and I feel worse then I do when I am trying to let go and let my baby decide. ❤️
  • 2 nights in a row of TERRIBLE sleep...now feeling super grumpy and overtired at 40+4. Also nauseous and headache-y (probably due to lack of sleep). Today's my birthday and I have some friends coming over for board games this evening to help me keep my sanity but it might end up being an "Its my party and I'll cry if I want to" sort of night. :-/

It might be the subconscious/ conscious waiting for baby I'm 40&5 and my body started shutting down last night (headache, nausea, & super exhausted) woke up at 3 AM with a cold I couldn't swallow or breathe due to sore throat and now I'm up with my 6 year old trying to make it through the day which is making me glad LO is not out because being sick with the kids we know is a fun job ☹️.. Happy Birthday & hang in there enjoy the day as much as you can!

Thanks.  I just told my husband that all I want for my birthday is a good night of sleep and/or a baby. Hopefully I get manage one of the two tonight. Feel better!

Not my personal experience, but one of my best friends just had her baby 3 weeks ago and this happened to her. She was 10 days past due date, so she was induced because they were concerned about the baby's size. She was on pitocin for 14 hours and nothing progressed, she only dilated a half a centimeter, and baby's heart rate was dropping, so they did a c section. Baby only ended up weighing 6lbs. 2oz...
Edit: forgot to add her water broke a couple hours before the c section.
  • Hi guys, just wanted to share my labour story. I'm a TTM. My labour this time was crazy quick!! My water broke on Sunday at 4 am, contractions started right away and even though there were irregular, some 5 minutes apart, some 10 minutes apart they were pretty intense from the start. I called my Midwive at 5:45 am, she told me to wait until the contractions last longer than 30 seconds and r less than 6 minutes apart. But as soon as I hang up the phone, they progressed really quickly and were crazy intense. We left for the hospital at 7:40 am. Got to the hospital at 8:30; I was already 9.5 cm dilated. I asked for the epidural cause the pain was insane, they said there might not be time. There were able to get me the epidural. I pushed under 10 minutes and Mikael was born at 11:24 am. So crazy how fast it progressed. Just wanted to share especially for those that want to get the epidural, just listen to your body and go to the hospital even if ur midwive- Dr doesn't think its time. Especially if it's your third.
  • Gotta love the bump for not posting the rest of my post! Is anyone else experiencing extreme pelvic discomfort? It feels like I pulled a muscle on the whole right side of my groin/ bagina :) I've been dealing with it for a few weeks now. My OB says it's due to her being so low, but goodness this is painful. Every time I move my right leg I'm in pretty severe pain, I might have had a pity party this morning and shed a few tears while soaking in the tub lol. I'm under strict orders from DH to only go on short dog walks and sit on my butt and watch TV... yes sir! haha! When people were talking about the discomfort you experience in the third tri, I didn't know they were talking about such pain! I have a feeling she will come this week, I hope I'm right!

Saaaaaame. Mine just started a couple days ago. It feels like I did a million squats. Bah. Hopefully it's a good sign!
