I used to be a hairstylist until my 2 year old was born. I didn't want to waste every Saturday working. I also had PPD.. so people stressed me out. So, when he was about 9 months I started working at a BDC for a car dealership that my hubby works for. Now I surprisingly make double the money for doing half the stress and half the work. I'm part of a specialty team so I work in an office room with 4 other ladies so we all get along, with the exception of one girl who is also PG.. (story for another day) Downside, sitting on my butt all day means not giving in to most cravings.
Project manager for a software company. Not super glamorous, but it does keep my Type A personality happy and I work from home which I looooooooove. I REALLY wanted to stay home when we got pregnant the first time. Instead I went down to 4 days per week. I quickly learned with even the one day off that I am not a SAHM. I love my working time and I love my 3 days per week with my cutie.
I was still in college when I had my first and went back after 2 weeks. I plan to do the same with this baby and my current job. I work for a small accounting firm in my hometown and will be able to bring my little one with me at least until January. (We only work 4 days a week from May-December.)
I work in PR for a pharma company. Have worked in various communications rolls at the company for the past 8.5 years and I stick around for a lot of factors, but the benefits, maternity leave (6 months) and family friendliness are top of the list. I can work from home at least 2 days/week and have the flexibility to take my DD to Dr's appointments, attend events at her preschool, etc. without worry. The environment has really made the balance of work and life an easy decision to stay in the workforce.
Veterinarian. 8 weeks along and haven't told work yet. It's getting harder and harder to find excuses why I can't help with surgery, xrays, large dogs, cat poop. So many things to avoid now!
I am a property manager for student housing. I also am an adjunct professor at the local community college and have just started my own blog tantonedlife.com but haven't launched it yet, this fatigue is killing me!
I was a financial analyst for mutual funds until I had my son last year. Now I'm a SAHM and also work from home managing all the office work/book keeping for a construction company. I made more money than my husband at the time but with commute into Boston and daycare for a child under one, my 60 hour workweek would have been for a dismal amount of pay. I don't regret a single second of leaving
I stay at home with Harper (my 10 month old daughter). I used to be a service advocate for insurance agents. Very thankful I'm able to stay at home with her!
I work in a university disability services office as a disabilities coordinator and learning strategist. My educational background is in psyc, behavioural science, education, and counselling. Love my job!
P.S. Kudos to the teachers out there! Getting a full-time teaching gig in Ontario usually takes more than 5 years. You have to really love it to wait that long. Plus I hear that teachers in the states do not get enough credit or pay for what they do! Good on you guys for sticking with it.
Im currently a Program Manager at a group home for adults with disabilities but I plan to pursue my Masters in Disability Services in Higher Education! It's so exciting to see someone doing this! I worry sometimes that I'm going to pigeonhole myself into a field where I can't find any work. This made me so happy!!
Re: GTKY Where do you work?
I'm an Archaeologist turned Superintendent of a National Park!
and so much kudos to all the SAHM.. you all got the best job of all!
