1st Tri Screen today

Everything on the ultrasound looked great!  Baby was wiggly (very!) and NT measurements were normal, and nasal bone was present.  Hurray!

I had a question about the blood part of the screen, for those who've done it.  I noticed the nurse putting about 3 drops of blood on each of the little circles, and I saw the writing below that said something about "use only one drop per circle, do not layer" or along those lines.  I mentioned it and kind of tried to politely ask about it, but she shrugged it off and said, "It's more important that I fill the circles."

Anyone have experience with this?  I have a hard time remembering from when I did it with my son over 3 years ago.  Will my blood results be skewed if she put more than one drop on each circle?

Re: 1st Tri Screen today

  • They did that with mines too but not sure why only one layer is necessary

  • We didn't have that kind of blood test (at least not in front of me anyway) so I'm not sure. I would say that the nurse probably does this a lot, so I wouldn't worry about it.
  • I also had my 1st tri screen today but they weren't able to get proper measurements so I have to go back next week... ugh this is making me nervous, anyone else has had that experience?

I wouldn't be too concerned! The baby has to be in a very particular position in order for them to properly measure the nucal fold and such. My first pregnancy it took a long time for the baby to cooperate. I imagine if it was lib longer they may have had us come back as to not push other appts late.
