9 wks w/ heavy bleeding

I went to the restroom tonight and was shocked by a large amount of bright red blood. I'm 9 wks today and this is our first. I'm having mild cramps and really random gas. Called the on call doctor at my OBGYN and will go in tomorrow to be checked. Has anyone else experienced more than spotting without it leading to miscarriage this early?

I had heavy bleeding with huge blood clots throughout my whole pregnancy starting at 8 weeks. Turned out I had a huge subchorionic hematoma. It was very scary but DS is now 5 months old. I know its hard but try to relax, drink tons of water and lay on your left side (that's what my Dr always told me to do and it worked with the bleeding and cramps). Good luck and T&P that everything will be ok with your little one.

  • I had this happen last week (at 8 weeks). Tons of bright red blood with clots, enough to be in the toilet bowl. It lasted about a minute and then just became spotty brown discharge. Went into the OB the next day and baby was measuring 2 days ahead with a 151 HB. It was a SCH. I had one more instance of bright red blood- only when wiping- and then it totally went away. Hoping the same for you!
  • Wanted to add- my OB told me at 8 weeks there would be a substantial amount of blood (soaking through pads) and pain if you were to have a miscarriage. Your baby is actually a fetus now, so the bleeding would last a while and be intense.
  • I appreciate the comments. All this is so scary, it's really nice to have the boards to communicate with other women. I will update after my appointment tomorrow. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
  • Keeping you in my thoughts & sending all my good vibes for your appt tomorrow!

  • I had this similar experience yesterday (8 weeks and 3 days) and went into triage today to be checked. The ultrasound showed everything to be perfectly fine and I was told this can be common as the US showed some bleeding from the placenta implanting. Sending good thoughts!
  • Thoughts and prayers update us when you know!
  • I had this for about a week like a full blown period. It was scary! try to put your feet up and rest while you wait to see your doctor. My ob couldn't find a reason baby was fine cervix was close no sign of miscarriage on the ultrasound. I had a few episodes like that all scared the hell out of me some women just bleed. Now I have a 4 month old daughter and expecting baby #2. Always be positive.
  • Hoping for the best for you!

  • I had bleeding on and off for the whole time in my second pregnancy. Usually after too much walking around or sex. It was bright red blood but just more of a spotting. Prayers.

  • I bled a ton with my first early on. Bright red, brown, and mild cramping. I was so nervous but everything turned out to be fine. :) I was just put on pelvic rest for a while.
  • @ritarita1 I hope all goes well at your appointment. FX for you.

I have an ultrasound at 2pm today and meeting with the OB after. Trying to stay positive. Everyone's posts have been very helpful.
  • I actually just went to the er two nights ago for the same thing. Thankfully I have a little hope now.
  • I'm sorry you are going through this and I hope everything is ok. I've been bleeding on and off throughout this pregs (I'm 10 weeks 6 day) and the doc put me on progesterone and it may have helped as the bleeding lessened and has stopped for the past week. Maybe ask if that might be good for you too. I notice the bleeding is worst after physical exertion such as walking around a lot or carrying heavy groceries so I try to take it easy as much as possible. Hope this helps.
  • Great update!!

  • I have a random question, but does bleeding still increase your risk of miscarriage if a healthy heartbeat is detected after the bleeding? I know some women who bleed still go on to miscarry, but I haven't found many statistics about how common that is if baby still seems ok afterwards.

When I was bleeding my dr said that chance of MC was less than 5% since we'd seen/heard HB on ultrasound.

  • @VikingGirl12 thank you for the info..my doctor seemed very optimistic that all looked well, but I'm still pretty anxious about a MC.
