Not checking for anything additional.. No diarrea either...I read that it depends on the OB...I just wish she had warned me! My Dr from my previous two pregnancies likely did not insert it...I would remember that...be forewarned though that they might put it IN your bum...was not expecting it and it was a shock...
Just do it. Not a big deal at all. It's not for you anyway, all for baby. You don't feel a thing if that's your worry, and if it is, I feel bad for you when you go into labor ;-)

My doctor gave me the swab and explained it had to go in the vagina but only around the anus and then directed me to the washroom. I must admit, with all of the activity happening downstairs these days and the number of doctors and nurses who get all up in that business, it was rather nice to not have someone else do that one! It wasn't even like he offered me the option to do it myself, just seemed like standard practice.

Yep I had mine this week and they had me self swab. They offered to do it if I preferred but she said they have research that with clear instructions self swabbing is just as valid for clear results. Easy. Glad I was able to do it myself.
I got mines today I've seen some of the comments some ladies post , I don't know what it was that mines did hurt I don't know if the ob was being rough but when she swab my vag...it hurt and now that I pee it burns to pee. Every pregnant women is different though!
I had mine today and I'm fairly confused about it. With my DS I barely felt anything and remember thinking "That was it?" Today on the other hand, it really hurt. I was talking and had to stop because of how uncomfortable it was. Then this afternoon when I went to the bathroom it felt like burning and the. evening I discovered I was spotting slightly. What is with that??? I did call and the nurse said sometimes that happens but not often. She said as long as I'm not having contractions, still feeling the baby move normally, and the spotting doesn't get worse I'm fine. I've been laying on the couch and things seem to have calmed down.
I'm always concerned with self swabbing with regards to ensuring the right places are swabbed
Yes! Especially considering how it's almost impossible to wipe down there, much less swab holes lol.
I am happy to have my doctor do it for me. At this point, I wish they'd do the urine sample. Maybe it's because I have short arms.
Can I get this guy's arms?
Love this! I had a hard time catching the sample in the cup today. My bump is so big I had a couldn't figuring out where to hold the cup! I almost laughed at myself I felt so ridiculous.
I don't think you can decline it or would want to. If you have it you will need antibiotics before delivering because the baby can get sick from it. It doesn't effect you, but can effect the baby. I have tested positive for each with all 4 of my boys, had antibiotics before delivering and everything was fine.
I have to admit I didn't read every single one of the comments I do not want to scare you with my story because it really is worst case scenario but I declined the group b strep test with my first son because I was completely convinced that I was good and didn't need it because I did get mis information from family and friends that already had children it was the biggest mistake I have made my son ended up with meningitis at ten days old he stopped breathing my father had to bring him back to life then he was life flighted to the children's hospital where he spent the next twelve days fighting for his life he is two and a half now and doing great but if my story can save anyone what went through then it is 100% worth it please do research and make your own decisions but I will get the test 1000 times if that is what it takes.
I had mine yesterday along with my first cervical check. The swab was a breeze. Her checking me was uncomfortable as all heck though. I'm due in 4 weeks and only 1/2cm dilated. I know everyone's different but was hoping being as close to my due date I'd be a little bit farther.
My doc warned me there would be some spotting/discharge from the exam, but how much for how long? It freaks me out!

So my doctors office just called. I get to do the swab AGAIN. The tube they used for it was expired?! Shouldn't that be something you check before you use it? Not that it was a pain to do, I'm just not particularly a fan of doing things twice...ugh
My dr did mine and it wasn't the most comfortable thing... Probably has something to do with the quality of the swabs and applied pressure. Then she checked my cervix... Whole nother ballpark of pain! I hurt for the whole rest of the day even after a bath and Tylenol. My cervix isn't ready or dilated for an induction but they are getting these kids out of me in 14 days.
Re: Group B Strep test?
@nik6499 that's awesome! One of my favorite autocorrect fails for vagina is Virginia.

Seriously. I was thinking yesterday while attempting my urine sample that I needed a SheWee to make it into the cup.
