Had a fall this morning....

Hi Ladies!

I'm 6w3d and I fell down a few of my stairs this morning and took a hard hit to the back. Other than some bruising and rug burn, everything seems to be ok. I've had no cramping, bleeding, or signs of pregnancy distress. I have my first appointment next Monday, so thankfully I don't have to wait long to have my doctor calm my nerves. From what I've been able to find on other posts there is really nothing I can do but wait and see, but I wanted to see if any of you had similar experiences to share.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Re: Had a fall this morning....

  • Don't worry about it, especially this early. Baby is well protected in there, plus tiny and not really anything more than a set of tubes at this point. Mention it at your appointment, but until then unless you have bleeding, it's nothing to worry about, and even if you did have problems at this point it would probably be totally unrelated to the fall. Unless you're so hurt that you need to go to the hospital, baby should be fine.

    I agree with @FiancB.  The truth is you won't know until you know but the likelihood that a fall really impacted your pregnancy this early is pretty unlikely.  FX for you.

  • I'm sorry you fell. I hope you're not hurting too bad. I agree with pp, the baby should be fine.

  • I tripped around 8 weeks with my 1st and busted my chin on one of those commercial coffee dispensers (catered meeting- I had rinsed it out and was setting it out by reception for the catering company, I'm so nice! LOL).  My daughter came out perfectly :)
  • A week and a half ago I went on 6 high speed roller coasters that threw me around. Sounds like you'll be fine :)
  • The fall shouldn't cause any issues. I was told in my first pregnancy after a fall down a few stairs that you would essentially need something the force of a baseball bat hitting you directly in the stomach to have a risk of doing damage. Like PP said the baby is very well protected in there!
  • **hugs** hopefully you feel better soon!

  • That would make me nervous, too, but like PP, baby should be just fine. {{hugs}}
  • I took a fall when I was pg with DS.  It was super scary but all was ok.

  • Thanks so much for your replies! It does help ease the anxiety!
  • I agree with everybody else. It's understandable that you're concerned, but the baby is probably fine. Good luck at the doctors appointment!
  • I took a fall when I was about 26 weeks with DD. I fell forward, too, but DD is just fine.

  • Did this Sunday morning. Same scenario. I am 6w5d. The baby is so small, blueberry sized, cushioned in your pelvis by adipose fat & muscle. If no bad pain, bleeding etc., you're in the clear.
  • Nothing to worry about. The concern with falls is placental abruption, and you don't even have a placenta yet. Worries about jarring falls come much later, and even then, it has to be a pretty severe accident to cause it.
  • The day before I found out I was pregnant I was trying to walk down our basement stairs in the dark, and missed about four steps. I got a nasty bruise but mostly fell on my side. That's what made me worry "what if I'm pregnant" enough to take a test. :)
