March 2016 Moms

Scheduled my C-Section - this is getting real!

Wow!  We just scheduled my C-Section for March 15th!  It is also two days before my daughter's first birthday so it seems so crazy to be planning this far in advance but that is the way they do it.  Has anyone else scheduled theirs already?

NOTE - we are having a C-Section because I tried to do natural with my daughter and my cervix would not open enough and I am 37.

Re: Scheduled my C-Section - this is getting real!

  • I will be having a scheduled c-section but my doctor doesn't schedule them until later - 3rd trimester.
  • Loading the player...
  • I will also be having a scheduled c section since locally they do not allow vbacs. Not scheduled yet, but I am anxious to find out the date!
  • Congrats on getting your date!  Such a bummer that you will be in the hospital for your DDs birthday though.  But at least you know ahead of time and can plan accordingly.  This baby is due 10 days before DS2s 5th birthday and I'm so petrified of that happening, he would be devistated.  Hopefully she stays put until 39 weeks :)

  • Congrats! I'm having another c-section but my doctor doesn't schedule them this early, I just know it'll be around the 4th if my due date doesn't change at the next ultrasound.
  • That's so crazy to KNOW what day your baby will be here already! Congratulations!!
  • I'm scheduled for March 10th I'm excited to meet my little girl.
  • Around here I think they usually do them 2 weeks before due date... That'll put me just before our 5th wedding anniversary. I'm hoping they'll let me schedule it 1 week pre-due date, anyone have any experience with scheduling before?

Not to be selfish but it would be nice to have a nice date before #2 arrives to celebrate 5 years of marriage... Lol.
  • I haven't got my definate date scheduled yet fot my csection but I have to deliver by 35 or 36 weeks to try to avoid me going into labor. I have complications. It will be the first week of February was due March 1.
  • I just scheduled mine for February 26th! It makes it so real! Its also 2 days before my hubby's birthday so we will have to celebrate late. He is excited to get our 2nd girl as his birthday present though!
  • Ours isn't officially scheduled but my doctor does C-sections after 39 weeks and only on Mondays. So babys birthday will be March 21.

  • Congrats! Every time I go to the doctor (I just went this morning) I keep forgetting to ask when they normally schedule them. I am guessing it is not until later since he hasn't mentioned it. I will be 39 weeks 2 days before our 6th wedding anniversary on March 27th so we will probably be in the hospital on our anniversary which I dont mind. I am guessing it will be Friday March 25th.

  • Mine is not scheduled yet. Previously they give me a date at about 30-32 weeks

  • Any of you have experience with a doctor very supportive of a VBAC (her idea she thinks I'll rock it IF I go into labour naturally) but our backup is a section if I don't go into labour by 40 + 3/4. Do they schedule it way in advance or just see how it goes??
I don't have my heart set on a VBAC, it'd be great but I like idea of backup plans being made in advance.
I'm asking next appt but it's so far from now!
  • No I never had a chance :/

  • No set date yet, but my doctor said it would be around the 38/39 week mark which would put me at the end of February. I'm sure it will be booked sometime during the 3rd trimester
  • @jenniferamcooper my doctor is supportive of my decision either way (she's the best!) but she said if we wanted more than 2 she would recommend a VBAC. If we had gone that route it would just be the see how it goes and then likely induce - I think in that situation they wouldn't do a c-section unless labour didn't go well. I'm in Canada so I don't know if that makes any difference. I just know after my experience with DD1 that I would rather go c-section.
  • @kellygrace2 I'm in Canada too, it seems we have different protocols here. I didn't have a negative birth experience so I literally have no idea what I'm in for. Baby was 11 days overdue and we started a slow induction and had fetal distress during that time (decels not rebounding) so baby was born quickly. But I've had no constractions not even BH and didn't even dilate. My friends joke I'm not going to make it (supportive joking because I'm a bit of a wimp) but we'll see how it goes. I'm happy either way because I get a baby in the end!
I also want 3 but my doctor said 3 with a section is fine just monitored a little more.
  • mine was booked pretty early on for 2/25/16 @ 7:30 am its crazy to think I will have her in my arms by the start of the work day.

  • @jennifermcooper I have had two previous c-sections and my current doctor is very pro VBAC (also her idea). I have a history of preterm labor. I think my biggest fear is that we try to deliver vaginally and end up having to do an emergency c-section anyway.

However I deliver, I will have a baby by Feb 24th. I will be 39 weeks.

  • I am due on March 5th. My doctor says that if I go for c section it will be on the 38th week.I want a vbac but I am a little scared of the risks...
  • my doctor asked me if I wanted to schedule it when I went in for my 16w appt, but I opted to wait. Had my 20w appt this morning and we talked about it again - I want to wait until I'm 30w to schedule it because I haven't ruled out vaginal delivery yet, I will be basing it on the positions of the babies - they say by 26-30 weeks twins don't have room to shift position much.

  • My section is scheduled for March 8th which is also my Husbands birthday! My sons 8th birthday is also 2 weeks prior so we will be busy with birthdays!

@jenniferamcooper I was in labour for 17 hours or so and even after they broke my water was only dilated 5cm. I was in so much pain from the contractions that I was shaking (they wanted to put off the epidural as long as possible because it can stall labour) and then DD's heart rate started to dip with every contraction which caused the head of OB who was my on call doctor to be concerned. It wasn't emergent but he wanted to avoid getting to that point and I fully agreed (and was in so much pain I just wanted to hold my baby!). My c-section experience was great, recovery went well. I have no qualms about doing it again. My body didn't cooperate the first time to deliver vaginally so I would rather not try it again. ;)

I would say go for it - you didn't have a negative experience the first time so you have no idea what it'll be like. It could be really straight forward for you.
  • Thanks ladies a few of you have my biggest fears - labouring for hours and then having a c section. All that work! But then again once you have baby in your arms I'm sure it doesn't matter.
I'm going to take it as it goes. My doctor is optimistic but joked that we'll have a better idea if this one wants to be lazy like his/her brother. I won't be sad one bit if we schedule another section because the end result is a wee little baby... also no cone head or bruising ;)

The c-section head is beautiful. :) They all are but it's nice to have no bruising or cone head for sure.
  • kynbar5 said:

Just a note: not all babies born vaginally have bruising or cone heads.

    Very true!
  • @kynbar5 true - but I thought it was one of the few "perks" of a section ;)
  • kynbar5 said:

I think regardless of how you give birth the only perk that matters to me at all is that the baby and I are healthy. :)

Agreed. No matter what way you give birth the end result of healthy baby and mom is what's important.
  • @kellygrace2 I understand! I was induced the night of my anniversary. I was thankful they let me come in around 9 so I could enjoy a short evening with the hubby lol!
  • My OB gave me the option of a VBAC or a c section. The labor with my DS was a nightmare. Water broke, having contractions and had dilated and ready to push at 9 AM. Pushed until 5 PM when my OB finally decided to do a c section. He just wouldn't move and my body would not progress enough to allow him to do so. With that being said, this labor could go the exact same way and since we have already had a scare with this LO, I am going with the c section since it is the safest option at this point for both LO and myself.

I had the same issue with DD #1 - I was in labor for 24 hours before they did the C-Section and only made it to a 6.5.  After delivery my doctor said my cervix was not very "compromising" lol

We decided to do my DD birthday the weekend before and the grandparents from OOT are coming to stay with us two weeks before, during and after for two weeks so she can be at home and loved on.  I am hoping I only have to stay for 24/36 hours since my last C-Section recovery was quick (walking after 6 hours and the only real pain I had was a reaction to the tape they used).

    Good luck to everyone!
  • My fiance and I aren't sure yet if we are going to have a scheduled c-section. Our boy is on the big side and they want to watch his growth. If he gets big for delivery, they said they are going to want to do a c-section, we will know during the third trimester if that's what they are going to want to do. They don't want to risk him getting stuck at the shoulders during delivery.
  • Is this your first baby @kmorin523? Ultrasound estimates for size are notoriously off, sometimes by a lot. If you've never had the experience of growing a baby that was too big for you to birth, it's pretty unlikely that you currently are.
  • Haha yeah @kitteh81 is right - my ultrasound estimate was off by 2lbs! We thought we were getting a 8.5 lb 41+4 baby turned out he was a teeny tiny 6.5lbs.
  • I don't know how the doctors could predict this at this point, unless there's a medical condition involved. Sounds like a dr hoping to just sign you up for a c section. I'm tall, but my first was 10 lbs., born at 41 weeks exactly, 22 inches. I tore, and they cut me, but I'd rather that than a c section. I wasn't really aware when either happened. My husband was 12 pounds at birth, out of a 5ft 7in mom. I think most of the time our bodies figure things out. Personally, any visit I had with a dr trying to sign me up for a c section due to potential size when I was 23 weeks along, would very well be my last visit. Unless your under 4ft 10in, this sounds crazy.
  • Ds was born via csection at 41+ weeks after 25 hours of labor. I never made it past a 3 and it sucked. This delivery will be a scheduled csection with me getting fixed afterwards (maybe, cause I'd like for dh to get fixed instead but it depends on if he can be brave enough). But other than knowing it will be between 36-38 weeks, we won't know till closer to our due date.

My sister had to have a c section because her pelvis is to small she is slim and she tried for a vaginal birth but her doctor warned her that it might not be possible and it wasn't for her, her son was only six lbs and couldn't pass through her narrow pelvis.

I'm just curious....been reading everyone's comments regarding scheduled C-section.  This is my first and my OB has not mentioned or asked if I wanted to schedule a date or anything in regards to my pelvis being narrow and/or a larger sized baby. DD is 3/18.  Is C-section only mentioned/offered for those with a prior history or other factors?  Heck, if my OB asked if I wanted to schedule one I'd probably opt for it!!
