2nd Trimester

Cramping

Has anyone else experienced pretty bad cramping and some sharp pains in the lower abdiminal? I thought it was round ligament but I'm not sure. I'm 14 weeks today, baby has been healthy so far and haven't experienced any bleeding. Should I be freaking out?

Re: Cramping

  • I would not freak out, I had some cramping on and off early in my 2nd tri. Cramping can be from your uterus is expanding. Also another cause is round ligament pain like you thought, so it may very well be that. If the pain does not go away then I would call your doctor just to check with them.

  • I actually came on the message board to see if anyone else was having these same sharp cramps.  I'm now at 17 weeks and been healthy with blood work and tests up to this point, too.  All advice welcomed, so thank you for asking the question.  I'll be curious to read the feedback
  • 18w here and still have cramping. It can be low over uterus or even up above where my uterus is. It's very uncomfortable and wayyy worse when I have trapped gas and/or need to poop (TMI I know). No bleeding and it's not severe, but it's still here. So, I'm right there with you ladies. As always, call your doc if you're worried, but it can be a very normal albeit uncomfortable symptom.
  • Thanks for all your responses!! Makes me feel a little more at ease :)
  • I actually went to the doctor this past Friday because I was having such bad cramping the day before. She also said it could be round ligament pain and since I wasn't bleeding to just take it easy and not worry unless the unbearable pain lasted more that 10 minutes. I did have one more really bad spell yesterday but other than that everything with baby is fine. I'm 15 weeks along.
Try not to worry (easier said than done I know. I'm a huge worry wart!) good luck. :)
  • I'm a week behind you and have been having this issue. My doctor said I will feel this when I am dehydrated. I also notice i will feel this when I am going through constipation. Try drinking more water when you feel the cramps. I remember with DD if I put my feet up they seemed to subside. Hope this helps.

This. I'm also 14w and just recently have started feeling weird cramps/sharp pains. Drinking water definitely seems to help with the cramping part.
  • Do you know if you have fibroids? I have one that's grown due to the pregnancy hormones and has now outgrown its blood supply and started degenerating. Super bad sharp pains. But not harmful to me or baby.
  • I had the exact same issue this morning. I am 17 weeks and woke up feeling great, by the time my first meeting ended I was in pretty severe pain in the very low (almost to my vag) abdominal area, and primarily on the left side. It hurt to go from a sitting to standing position and also to walk. I was pretty anxious and called my doc. The nurse told me to take Tylenol (which helped a lot). I saw the doctor about 2 hrs later and he detected a strong heartbeat and said everything seemed fine. He said it may be a cyst which would naturally pass on its own, or possibly my ligaments stretching. He told me to use ice or a heating pad (which ever feels better) and to go home and rest. I hope this helps and that you start to feel some relief soon!
  • I have noticed as my pregnancy processes, my RLP has changed from sharp and sudden to crampy and consistent. If you put your hand on the sides of your uterus down low by your hip bone, you can actually feel the ligaments. For me, laying on my side puts constant stress on the supporting ligament, and I wake up in the morning wondering why I feel like I'm PMS'ing.
  • I've had cramping from pretty much the start and have had it really bad for the past few days. I've had 3 scans and all have been fine. I'm 13 weeks. It's a scary time (esp after a MC) but I think it's very normal X
