short mamas unite!

Re: short mamas unite!

  • I'm 5'3" and, while I haven't yet gotten the "it must be twins" comment, it really is twins! I definitely look close to full term for a singleton...so I cringe a little to think how much bigger I'm going to get! I guess the worst parts are not being able to climb on stuff to reach high places and bumping into EVERYTHING. I swear I'm going to have a perma-bruise across my belly when this is through. I didn't even think about the car thing, so hopefully I'm good until the middle of December when I can stop teaching classes until April!

My aunt is 5'4 and when she had her twins it looked like her belly was taller (long wise) than she was. I hope you don't get that way! She hated it! Don't even bother trying to reach for things and just hire someone to reach them for you. Lol

  • I'm 5'0". Not only am I HUGE because of my short torso, but I'm having trouble reaching the clothes at the bottom of my washer because I have a top loader and my belly gets in the way. The same with hanging clothes on the rack over the washer/dryer. I used to just barely be able to reach. Now my belly hits the washer and doesn't let me get that reach.

    THIS!
  • yup i'm with you ladies.  I'm 5'2" and with every pregnancy (#3) I just think how much bigger can I get!  and then I get bigger.  I'm with you on the washing machine.  I can reach right now but I know i'm not going to be able to reach the bottom.

@stephz44 - I hoped my #2 would be small like my #1, but he was bigger, and I definitely felt the weight difference.  #1 was 2 weeks early and 6lbs 4oz, #2 was 5 days early and was 7lbs 10oz.  I felt every bit of that weight in my pelvis.  You can still get them out even if you're little :)  just as some of the other ladies have stated.

  • I' 5'0".  My husband ordered me those pedal extenders for my car because my belly is too close to the steering wheel for comfort now and I need to drive for 3 more months.  I thought it was so romantic - weird how the criteria for romance changes as you age.  I can't reach the bottom of my washer so I have to call DH when I'm ready so he can help.  This week, I really noticed how hard it was getting to bend over to put on shoes and shaving is such a hassle.  My mom keeps asking if I'm carrying too big.  She's a good 8" taller than me - she just doesn't get that there is no where for this baby to go but straight out!

  • DH put my socks on for me last night.. He's at work and i have to do it myself today.. The final decision? I'm wearing flip flops in the rain.
  • Had to drive to my midwife appointment today. I noticed on the way home that my belly is definitely touching the bottom of the steering wheel. Sigh.
  • @stephz44 My hubby's 4'11" cousin had too 9lbs babies vaginally. Her husband is like 6'4".
I know I'm taller than all of you(5'6") but I have an extremely short torso for my height so I feel you about running out of room. I was definitely feeling rib kicks and bladder punches last night
  • @thisusername is it bad that we live in so cal and I still wear flip flops in the rain? LoL
  • @mamacastro no! Whenever I'm back home (I don't know if you remember but we are from Cali originally so it's still home to us) I ONLY wear flip flops in the rain. But here in MD? It's 38 degrees and I think I lost a toe. I've been wearing boots since the end of September . Although, this cold is way better than the struggle to get real shoes on!
  • I'm 5'1" but have no torso. So I'm all belly and have been for about month (24 weeks now). I tilted my steering wheel up and am okay in the car for now, luckily. I feel huge, but my doc says I'm measuring right on and I keep getting the "oh, you're so small" comments.

My biggest complaint is that my bras are really hurting me. I'm guessing it's the no torso thing, so the under wire is stabby? I bought bra extenders and still am in pain. I usually hate bras without underwires but I think I'm going to Nordstroms soon to be fitted and try on some other bras.

The only way I am comfortable at night is to wear a sleep nursing bra (because I have to wear a bra at all times because, holy moly, are the nipples sensitive). It's basically feels like an old-school training bra from my preteen years and is comfy. Not enough support for the daytime but at least sleep is possible.

  • 5'1" here and had almost 12.5 lbs of babies in my belly with my twins! It's amazing what the body can do! My dr now still can't believe my small frame carried that much baby Ha! I have a short torso as well.
Surprisingly I never had many issues reaching the pedals in my car but My belly was pretty close to the steering wheel. I'm excited to see how big this baby will be

Same height and same bra /lack of torso issue. I have to have underwire otherwise my boobs are like those blow up guys you see outside of car dealership, the whacky noodle like ones. I started wearing a bando (however that is spelled) around my ribs and hook it over the upward curve in the wires so my bra rests on that instead of stabbing into My skin .

There are two things people notice when they look at me. Boobs and stomach. That is all I am currently made up of :,(
  • @twinmom1121 sorry this is random and kind of dumb; were you twins born 11/21? Is that the reason for your username? It's my sisters birthday that day. That's the only reason why I'm such a creep and asking.
  • @thisusername hah yes that's their Bday :)

  • Destination maternity had petite jeans that weren't too long-- and I'm 4'10. I'd highly recommend them.

  • @cdb305 thanks for sharing! I know where to go next!
  • Thanks @thisusername I will check that out!

Forgot to mention that Motherhood Maternity carries petite pants for you ladies as well. They're too short for me, since my shortness is 100% contributed to my torso, not my legs!
  • Another shorty chiming in here! 5'2" and I cannot even believe how wide I'm getting in the chest. I used to be a 34b and now am a 38c who will probably need bra extenders before this is over. I found some AMAZING wireless bras at Target this weekend that feel so great, and they have molded cups so there's still some shape to them. Warner's Super Soft wireless contour bra.

Also I feel you all on maternity pants. I love me some skinny jeans and, yes, I could roll up the bottoms but sometimes where they are supposed to hit the knee on regular sized people, that ends up being a weird bulge of fabric on my shin. I got some Jessica Simpson petite jeans at destination maternity and a couple of pairs of Rockstar Skinny Jeans/Cords at Old Navy. Those seem to be working so far :)
  • Thanks @thisusername I will check that out!

That's where I got mine from that are way too long. :( I hope my kid will be in between mine and her dads height. He's really tall, I'm really short. Together that means normal.. Yeah? (Wishful thinking!)

you just never know how it will turn out, but that's what i am hoping with this girl also. My husband is 6'5" and I am 5'4". Our first was born 8lbs 11 oz, and was a larger baby (didn't realize how large he was until I walked down to the nursery one day and he looked like a giant compared to all the other babies there!)  He is now two and almost half, and he's been hovering around 75-80 percentile.  Even though my FIL is upset that he isn't 99 percentile (he's obsessed with heights - the whole family is tall), I think he's just perfect; and my husband is glad that he won't be so tall. My husband has issues with regular airplane/ movie theater seats, most shower heights are too low, most pants can't be worn without getting them tailored....

  • 5'3" (not that short I guess). Have to lean over the sink for progesterone shots at night but my belly is getting in the way and the sink is too high. Also having issues with driving - never even thought about that before.
  • I'm 4'10" too. Shaving sucks. Reaching for things in the top kitchen cabinets is more of a PITA now. Driving is becoming a nuisance. Sigh. Also, clothes shopping sucks even more.

  • I just got a pair of maternity skinny jeans at H&M (Had to get a size 10, usually a 4) I like the skinny jeans though because they are so easy to turn the extra fabric inwards. They still look normal and I don't have to have them altered!

  • @thisusername hah yes that's their Bday :)
My sisters are twins and that's their Bday too :)  What is it about that date and twins?!
  • I'm 5'1" and have to sit in a swivel bar-stool style seat all day at work (the counter we work from is even with my chest when I stand). I already had to climb to get on the stool before I got pregnant but now it SUCKS. I've tried 4 different chairs so far but nothing is practical. :( I'm 26 weeks and every single week it sucks more and more. This week it felt like someone had ripped my thigh muscle and whacked me in the who-ha with a sledge hammer. My boss has been out all week, so it's been long hours without breaks... Next week is going to be a "kiss my butt" week!
  • I bought a stability ball to take to work. We'll see how that works out height-wise with my desk!

I definitely need to go check out those braa at Target. But I'm already in the pajamas tonight. :)
  • @thisusername I laughed outloud at your comment and am totally with you. I've been rocking leggings and sweaters most of the end of my 2nd trimester and plan to continue to do so as I purposely bought like 5 cheap pairs of the maternity kind. My old navy maternity pants still fit but the more my butt and belly grow the more awkward they fit and I have to pull them up constantly. JOY! NOT!

  • I've been forgetting about the belly sticking out every time I lean against a sink.  I'm half way through washing dishes or someone's hair ( I work at a salon) and realize I'm hurting myself and have to take a step back.  I didn't really have a belly last time around, I just looked fat, but definately have a bump this time.

  • Psshh.. 4'10" and 116 pounds and pretty much all belly. I have a healthy boy in there and that's all that matters! :)
  • It's official. I can't cook anything on the back burner of the stove anymore in any pan taller than a skillet!
  • I'm not sure if I am considered to be "short" (I am 5'3...this is the first time I have ever told someone that I usually lie and bump myself up to 5'4 hehehe) but I feel like I am carrying larger than everyone else I know who is pregnant and due in a similar time frame. Family members have suggested this is because of my height.

I also read a comment about your belly hitting the sink when washing your face? AMEN SISTA, AMEN. I thought I was the only person with the issue. I also experience the same problem when loading/unloading the washing machine! My belly gets in the way of everything LOL if only my torso was a tiny bit longer...
  • @MichelleAG05

@MichelleAG05 from the second I got pregnant all I have gotten are comment on how big my boobs will get, or are! I was a DD pre-pregnancy and don't even want to know what I am now LOL it doesn't help when your short either. My torso AND legs are in the shorter side which only makes my bump and boobs even larger looking.

LMAO at the car dealership inflatable guys. I've never read anything more true! Hang in there Momma we are almost done :)
