Wow, I haven't been very active here much at all these past couple months. I've been lurking, but I apologize for the seemingly random post!
I hope this doesn't sound like a brag, because I in no way mean it as such. My baby is sleep 14 hours a night!! She wakes up twice for food, but always seems tired after the second feeding at 6 am so I lay her back down and she's out until 10am or so. I'm thinking about calling the doctor tomorrow because I know it's not normal. It's actually starting to worry me quite a bit. She goes to bed at 8 and wakes up for the day some time around 9 or 10. She doesn't like to nap and only takes 2 (maybe 3) half hour naps a day. Is there anything anyone can tell me before I call my pediatrician tomorrow? Thanks, and I'm sorry again for the potential bragging post this might sound like. I'm sure you all want to murder me right now.
I knew she wasn't sleeping through the night, but she is sleeping 14 hours a night, just with a couple of feeding in the middle. I suppose if she's still eating enough it's okay, and I bet that's what the doctor will say. You just get worried when your baby isn't doing things like normal. Thanks for the responses!

I get what you're saying. Mine sleeps between 11 and 13 hours total a night, with 1 or 2 wake ups. If she seems happy during the day, she's probably fine.

Sleeping 13+ hours is not abnormal especially if babies not napping. Some sleep that including good naps during the day

Yes. Very normal. My twins sleep about 12 hours a night with out feeding and take 2 naps during the day. The handout that we got from a pediatrican said that 90% of babies are STTN at 5 months. Hope you ladies get some sleep soon!
My Mayo clinic baby's first year book says that around this age (5m) babies are still sleeping 13-16 hours a day. It does mention tho that it could be in chunks overnight and during naps during the day, or in larger stretches overnight with fewer or shorter naps during the day
maybe this is my problem. she sleeps about 11/12 hours a night with waking up usually once, sometimes not at all. naps are driving me nuts. usually she takes a few 40 minute naps but i wish they would be longer. i try to get her in the crib asleep an hour and half after she's been up because thats when she's tired. i think it would be a disaster if i tried stretching that out. the longer she's up after that the harder it is for her to get to sleep. I really need to work on getting her in the crib awake but sleepy. i think she is just waking up after the sleep cycle and can't get herself back to sleep because 90% of the time she wakes up and rubs her eyes, yawns...

To the mamas worried their kid is sleeping too much at night - I could just shake you.

And I mean that in the sweetest way.
We were so proud when we went to the pediatrican to tell him they were STTN, then he told us that fun fact! Womp womp.

We were struggling with naps too. We took all fun stuff away from the crib including mobile and an activity thing. Our pediatrican recommended it because we were essentially stimulating our girls to stay awake. Make it as boring as possible so they have to sleep. I know it sounds terrible but it worked for us!
We've joined the 4 month regression club. Is it weird I don't know what to do with her or myself at 3am? Seems forever long ago when we were waking up (like 3 weeks but it's been a glorious 3 weeks). Guess I need to actually read a sleep training book!
@caitlincunn yeah my dude hardly naps, either. 40 min is a pretty long nap for him. He has been waking up earlier and earlier tho, maybe he will nap a little longer for me today
I feel like I heard some talk of a potential 20 week growth spurt? Accurate? Because LO turned 20 weeks yesterday, and woke up at 330 am the past two nights wanting to eat, after fully STTN for a full week. It's like she figured "oh they're way too comfortable with this STTN thing, let's shake it up!"
She has also gotten up at 6 the past two mornings with giant poops in her diaper. She needs to go back to pooping midday so it will stop waking her up! We much prefer the 630-7 wake up time.
@jjvanwagner25 there is nothing in the crib. she will just scream and make herself not tired, or lay there talking. she has seemed off these last few days, screaming while i rock her until she gets tired enough that i can hold her comfortably and screaming in the car. We had to drive 40 mins to do our christmas photos the other night and she literally screamed bloody murder the whole way, she just woke up from a nap before we left and ate so nothing was wrong, even my fiancé sat next to her in the back trying to play and she was still crying.
@mellymar at least I'm not the only one with short naps! I would rather her sleep good at night which she is, but i can tell she is still tired after a nap which sucks
@caitlincunn oh yes he is definitely still tired after a nap, which is pretty sucky, because he's cranky. Luckily, right now I'm feeding him every 2 hours during the day so usually its time for him to eat again so that swings his mood back around, but then he's cranky sooner after eating... Its a wicked circle. I feel like my entire day is feeding this baby, getting in half an hour of some development time, then struggling trying to calm an overtired baby because he won't nap, and repeat.
Mines not STTN or napping! It's awful. He will be so tired and just scream while I try to rock him too. 90% gives me hope. Maybe he'll get it together soon. A family friend told me he wasn't sleeping bc I hadnt turned him counter clockwise in the bed. Lol. An old wives tale but whatever I did it last night and sadly it didn't do a thing.

Her naps were also a disaster this weekend. Ugh.

I told DH that I felt rested today because LO slept for two hours without waking up. I've become a monster
@virginiaunicorn11 that's a good way to look at it! Haha
