Weight loss surgery and pregnant?

I had lap band surgery 8.5 years ago and am now pregnant with my first child. I have just loosened my band all the way, for the first time since my last surgery 7 years ago and having anxiety about the prospect of gaining excess weight outside of recommended baby weight. Just wondering if anyone in this group may be going through anything similar.

Re: Weight loss surgery and pregnant?

  • One of my friends went through something like this, although it was only around a year after. I believe her biggest struggle was figuring out the correct amounts to eat. A nutritionist may be able to help you if you have concerns.

Alternatively, I lost over 60 pounds naturally in the 1 1/2 years before I concieved and became much more active. I'm still training for my first 10K next week, among other things, and had to get a Fit Bit to track my heart rate (dr's orders). It also gives me an estimate of how many calories I burn in a day, so I try to keep that number in mind to ensure that I'm eating enough.

  • Though I did not have surgery, I did lose 115 pounds before getting pregnant and returned to normal caloric intake for the first time in 5 years once I got pregnant. It's been hard; I'm at 13 weeks and 3 days and have already gained 7 pounds. I still track my food on MyFitnessPal because, otherwise, I am crap with portion control/knowing when to stop.
