Babymoons

Alrighty, this has been on my mind recently because our anniversary is perfectly placed for a babymoon, so maybe it has been on the minds of others too!

1) Will you be going on a baby moon?  If so, when?

2). What destinations do you have in mind?  What recommendations can you make on destinations?

3) What activities are you planning on/ would like to do/ can recommend?

  • Yess! Happy someone started this thread. We haven't taken much vacation this year and I would like to plan something. I want to avoid Zika locations but do something relaxing. I am a huge fan of traveling internationally but I am not sure what my energy levels/nausea will be like so I would like to stay away from Europe etc. I feel like options are pretty limited as a result! Hopefully, I will get some ideas here :)
  • I'm trying to convince my husband to take a kid-free vacation to Florida. I went to college just outside of Orlando and we've been trying to get down there to visit friends for years, but kids keep getting in the way! There are some GREAT spa destinations and all I want to do is sleep in, eat good food and get lots of massages.

As as far timing goes, I'd love to get down there sometime between thanksgiving and Christmas. I always feel good in second tri and that's a great time to travel. I'm not worried about Zika at all, unless something major changes between now and then. Ughghgh I'm practically drooling at the thought of a relaxing vacation!
  • I would like to say yes but I'm not sure it's going to pan out honestly. We took a small in state babymoon before DS. I'm scoping out plays at the theatere February/March time to maybe do a long weekend away for my birthday/babymoon.

  • Not sure what we're doing yet but we need to do something. We had to cancel our honeymoon Caribbean cruise in December because *news flash* I'm pregnant and all Caribbean islands are high risk for zika. Maybe we'll visit my sister in Washington state for Christmas.

  • Sadly, I doubt it because of financial reasons (though I'm not sure how relaxing a babymoon would be this time around with a toddler in tow, lol) BUT if you guys are thinking babymoons and want some activity suggestions I would highly recommend going to a place that has an awesome pool!  We went to Palm Springs last time around and I practically lived in the pool!  Feeling weightless while being pregnant is such an awesome feeling and can be a real relief if you're experiencing any hip, pelvis or other pregnancy related pains!
  • We are heading to Madeira (Portuguese island off coast of Morocco) the first week of October. We planned it months ago after getting a good deal on it and figuring we'd still be TTC by then. Surprise!  I'll be 14-15 weeks then so I'm praying I feel good. I am super bummed about missing out on the wine and all the unpasteurized cheese but hopefully everything else will make up for it!

If we were specifically planning a babymoon after knowing we were pregnant, I would have waited until later in 2nd tri (maybe November/early December) and picked a more relaxing, less adventurous vaca with lots of beach and spa time. Zika is a major concern for me so I'd be scouting out a "safe" location. Maybe the Keys? Hawaii or Bermuda would be top of the list if we could afford it!

We did one when I was pregnant with DD and went to Boston, which was a lot of fun. Unfortunately we probably won't be able to do one this time. My husband is a public accountant and will be working long hours from January till baby arrives (EDD 4/15). And I'm starting back to school later this month, so it's just not feasible financially or schedule wise. We had been planning a 10 year anniversary trip for May, but now it's looking more like a 15 year trip, haha!
  • @saralee797-2 We had been looking at an Alaskan Cruise for our 10 year anniversary. Could be a relaxing/Zika free option.
  • We were planning a long weekend trip to Pittsburgh for my 2nd 29th birthday in February. Now, I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be making a 6 hour drive at 7 months pregnant. But it would be nice to have some time just for the two of us before baby comes.

@frenchiekinplusone - Bermuda is such a good suggestion for east coasters! I never even thought about it for a babymoon, but it's one of my favorite places to go. Thanks for bringing it up!
  • My in-laws live in FL during the winter, so one option is flying down there maybe early November. However, as much as I love the beach and warm weather, I would like to not include my in-laws in my last vacation before LO arrives. So possibly something closer to home that is still fun for a 3 year old.

@kmalls sure thing! I've never been but my parents honeymooned there and a travel Insta I follow has been doing a feature there this week and it just looks SO amazing. Also I realized my suggestions were pretty east coast-centric so apologies to those who don't live in my bubble lol

  • I'm hoping that we can get someone to watch the kids for us and maybe go for a weekend to a casino or something and just stay the weekend. I turn 35 in January, so hopefully around then. But there won't be any big trips for us.

  • Not exactly a babymoon, but we are planning to take DD somewhere fun as a family of 3 before #2 arrives. We just need to decide on a destination. It will probably be in January since I will be on break from school.

    Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!

  • @Mattel are you planning on taking Spring classes?
  • @allowachick Gah! That is my dilemma. I want to but I'm not sure. I'm planning to register for the semester when registration opens in October so at least I have my schedule set if I do. I really want to do it, but we will have to see how everything goes. Luckily my 2 SILs and my MIL live within a three minute drive and could watch the baby for a few hours while I go to class.

  • @Mattel I can't decide what to do either. The semester goes till the end of April, so it would be complicated to say the least
  • Hoping to revive this one! Trying to get this planned

We have family in Naples, FL and that’s where we went last babymoon in fall of 2015 but with all the Zika talk I am hesitant to go anywhere too far south. Hoping others may have thoughts? My girlfriend’s doctor told her not to go south of Savannah. But people get pregnant in Florida everyday so how does that work?!?
    Interested in thoughts

    Or maybe Vegas? Tips? Vermont?

I am from michigan so hoping for a little warmth!
  • @millieb14 my parents have a house in Naples and I wouldn't hesitate to visit right now. Also  my BFF is 8 months pregnant and lives in Miami. She just sprays herself with deet and deals with it!
  • These trips sound amazing!

We have a Disney trip planned in January as a last hurrah for our family of 3.  I actually earned a sizeable gift card to Disney through my little side gig and it's paying for the entire trip. :)

I lived in Miami during the Ziki outbreak that took place last year and I was physically in the exact Wynwood neighborhood the outbreak occurred in a week before they announced it. It was scary at first but generally speaking no one cared and life went on. I would just wear deet to play it safe but I honestly wouldn't worry about it. These mosquitoes that carry Zika don't travel very far on their own. SO even if there is an outbreak in one part of a state it doesn't mean it's going to spread to other parts of the same state. I actually think the one specific neighborhood (Wynwood) in Miami was the only few blocks impacted and as of June 2nd there had not been any new local cases of Zika for more then 45 days. This was taken directly from the CDC website: "There have been no new cases of local Zika virus transmission identified and no cases under investigation in Miami-Dade County for more than 45 days. Lifting the yellow area designation means that there are no longer any travel recommendations related to Zika virus for Miami-Dade County, Florida."
  • 1) Will you be going on a baby moon?  If so, when? I am going for my 30th birthday, the last week of my second trimester.

2). What destinations do you have in mind?  What recommendations can you make on destinations? I'm going to Disneyland! I love all things Disney and knew that all the walking and waiting on buses at Disney World would be too exhausting.

    3) What activities are you planning on/ would like to do/ can recommend? I have a few friends that live in LA so we are going to try to get tickets to go see a live taping of a tv show. Otherwise, I'll be eating churros and riding the slow rides in Disneyland!
  • @1fish2fishredfish yay another Disney moon! Are you going to world or land?
  • @1fish2fish3fish, we are seriously considering going to Disney for 5 days 4 nights at the end of January...I'll be 27 weeks, almost 28 weeks. My daughter will be 21 months and free the whole trip since she can be a lap seat and we want a fun family trip. I guess I'm looking for thoughts from everyone that we aren't crazy for thinking about going and at the end of my second tri. We will definitely be getting the travel insurance!
  • @atreestump86 I went to WDW when I was 24 (or 26..?) weeks pregnant with DS and I still had a wonderful trip. Having your DD be so young is perfect IMO. She'll need to nap and go to bed early... which will line up with your body's needs! I say go for it and have an amazing time. We did DL with our two kids this past May (not pregnant). DS was almost 2.5 and DD was 10 months. We had a blast and loved every minute. I would recommend not doing a park every day single day, maybe try to do a park every other day and just accept that those will be long days, and the off days will be relaxing pool/shopping days!

  • Nothing major planned here.  Doing a spa weekend getaway with GFs in January and doing a friend trip to Burlington VT in Feb likely for mostly fireplaces and brewery tours haha.  Otherwise i'm trying to convince SO to do a family trip in the summer after baby comes.  Beach or something of the like or a house with my siblings would be awesome too!

  • We are going to a wedding in Florida sans kids over New Years! Because my last two babies would not take a bottle at all (and insisted on nursing until well after 12 months), I have not had a night away from my kids since... 2014, when DD2 was born.  :o I am excited but now debating whether to wean DS before then or allow that time apart to start the weaning process. I'm definitely excited, though!!

@ekendall09 have you ever been to the Equinox Resort in VT? It always pops up as a great spa resort in my searches, but the price tag is pretty hefty and I've never had a friend actually stay there. Any experience?
  • @kmalls I have not and am not familiar with it.  I have been to Manchester Center (town) many times and its very cute!  It has a bunch of outlets, more of a drive to each few since they aren't all attached than walk but could make for a nice afternoon if the weather was nice.

For spa weekend we're not going far....Stonehedge Hotel and Spa in Tyngsboro but also haven't been before.

  • @ekendall09 nice! Honestly I don't care where the hotel is -- as long as there's a spa, I'm good. You'll have a great weekend! We're staying local, too. Battery Wharf Hotel in the North End. Give me allll the food, please.

@sweetdream2004 my husband and I did a babymoon weekend in 2015 in the White Mountains, too! We went the weekend before Christmas and it was so nice! I'm jealous of your trip!
  • boo. no.  no one to take care of baby #1.

  • @sweetdreams44 what a wonderful trip idea! I am the planner in our family so it's highly unlikely that DH would ever plan a trip like that to surprise me. But lordy I would LOVE that!

Mama to Rowan Sebastian and baby boy coming in April!

  • @ladythrice thanks for the advice! My parents and inlaws will now be coming too so we should have plenty of help! We are so excited to go!
  • My husband and I have started to brainstorm ideas for a baby moon, likely the first week of January if we can plan it in time. I am leaning towards Austin, Texas (mostly because I've heard the food is good down there ;)).. I'd love to hear from anyone if that would be a good spot to go to. My husband wants to go to Hawaii, but I am admittedly a terrible traveler and hate the idea of a long flight. We will see where we end up going.. I just want a break from the cold Minnesota winters.
  • @dan0081 Austin is a great place to visit. It will be much warmer than Minnesota. And the BBQ is some of the best.
