Re: **The Everything Random Thread for April Mamas**

  • @AmadorRose I have a question for you. I know you mentioned somewhere that you found an online nursing program for some of the coursework. I want to get a nursing degree, but being military as well, it's not exactly convenient to go to an actual campus, as you are well aware. Can you PM me the info, please?

It seems like you've done a ton of research, but can you explain the difference between an AAS for nursing and a BSN? You take the NCLEX after both, so I'm not sure the difference. Do universities prefer four year degrees over two (I want to get a specialized MSN)? Or does the quality of work matter more? I know I've already been to college, but I just don't see the benefit of paying for four years of college again when I can get the same result out of an associates program.

@mechekitty I'm not an RN but I was in nursing school prior to changing my major (I'm an OTR now). The most important thing is to be in a program that is accredited by your national organization. In my area, the 4 year Bachelor's RN is preferred to the Associates RN, because the hospitals who have Magnet status have to have a certain percentage of nursing staff at Bachelor's level or higher to retain their certification. The nurses who are hired in are expected to advance their degree to a BSN within a certain number of years. It largely depends on what setting you want to work in.

  • I just died at this meme. Amazing.

I just saw this yesterday! Haha
  • Am I the only one already annoyed with the two "kicks" posts we got today? Sorry if it was you. I know it's a legit concern for some moms. But OMG. None of us are far along that we about it worried about it. Not even the 20+weekers.

I started a kick thread that hopefully can become sticky. For drive bys and such. Thoughts? Should I have waited til people for annoyed with the topic before starting it?

  • @NachosAndPeaches I wasn't annoyed by it. I did read it and go "wow that's early for most women on this board... March maybe?" I'm supposed to be on that board, but I'm not even feeling kicks that frequently.

Maybe i just have trauma from my last board. But anyway figured this is the next big topic everyone starts talking about and wondering so it would be a good place for drive bys. I don't want to tag someone to sticky it if you guys don't think it's necessary. Thoughts?

I think you handled it tactfully. I'm not at a point to comment on it myself, as I've felt flutters, but kicks? Nah
  • This is literally the first time I've clicked on this massive thread. The name lives up to the posts... All very random.

I'm currently sitting in my car bumping because it's cold as shit outside and I'm dreading the 2 minute walk inside. Waaahhhhhh
  • Hahahah! Where do you live? I'm in Vegas so it doesn't get cold enough for stories like that often.

I know for sure women who experience real winter are gonna call me out for this lol but I currently live in Southern California where it's summer 90% of the year. But to my jusitification, I'm an island girl and I don't do well in the cold! I'm not built for it!!

I would kill for some nicer weather. We're still high 80's this week! I'm melting!!!!!

Haha, I'd like to see you spend winter in Sweden then :P

@NachosAndPeaches I agree that we should perhaps make it sticky as I foresee many threads regarding this subject in the weeks to come. Those posts annoyed me because I feel like it is way too early to be a concern yet and it makes me unnecessarily nervous about not feeling any flutters.

@NachosAndPeaches I definitely think heading it off and giving people a place to post is a good strategy. I almost did that for intros really early on, but then chickened out cause I didn't feel established enough to take charge like that. With the deluge of intros that followed... I wished I had.

ETA: instead of making everything sticky, it might be nice to have a welcome/read this first thread like March has so we don't add to our already cluttered sticky collection.

  • It was 33 degrees here this morning and really hard not to just go to work in my comfy sweatpants, hoodie, and a big cup of hot cocoa.
  • We are solidly in the "need the furnace, but not cold enough for the fireplace" temperature range (40-60F). DH just built us a fence for around our wood-burning stove (it's in a corner and the ones made for around fireplaces are crazy expensive) so I'm really excited to actually have a fire, but if I were to start one now the house would be like 85 degrees. I'm hoping this weather holds out for our family pictures on the 21st though!
That said, I can't really complain, usually it's been sleeting for a week or so by this time of year and that's SO much worse than the snow.

  • I moved from Hawaii to Oregon and it's still too mild here for me. I want a really cold winter with snow damnit!
  • Oh my god that's my old mall!!! Wtf is wrong with people?! Anyway, just stopping by randoms to say that I've had my pants on backwards all day.
  • @DougalMcG FTW

    And that article was disgusting.
  • We've had a thread shutdown!!! Apparently we were getting too negative in the message board shutdown thread lol. Celebration Cake? I vote pumpkin spice XD
  • I'm kind of bewildered for the reasoning in that thread closure. Unwelcoming tone?? Errr...ok. Unwelcoming to all the crazy people who started the threads we linked to, maybe?

Meh I guess.. It definitely gave me and fiancé some great conversations, as well as with all of you!
  • Maybe it was the whole creating threads in response to threads that are closed since we were linking past threads?! I don't know but shhhhh shh shhh quiet down, I don't want this thread shut down either :-SS

But I wanna get a warning! Everybody else gets warnings, why can't I???? :((
  • Googling "cake fails" has been mightily entertaining..
  • Totally off topic, but has anyone been to New Orleans? DH and I are planning an extended weekend there in mid-January and I would LOVE some suggestions. Food, tours, entertainment, etc. DH wants to devote a whole day to voodoo museums/history and do walking ghost tours every night, but I found an old theater (Le Petite) showing Beauty and the Beast; at 27-28 weeks, I doubt I'll want to be walking all day and night.
  • So this is really random but my fiance invited his whole family over for tacos tonight and just called and told me so there will be nine of us.. six being grown men. I'm not used to cooking for so many people. Anybody have any thoughts on how many pounds of ground beef I should buy?

5 pounds? That's like a half pound a person. When I make beef tacos for my husband and I we make a pound and still have a little left. Tacos can be pretty filling with the meat, beans and cheese and other toppings. I guess if you aren't having beans you might want slightly more...

I'd do 4-5 pounds. Probably better to do 5 and have left overs. :)

  • My hubby didn't find this nearly as funny as I did...
  • I'd do 3-4 lb. people tend to eat how much they see is in front of them and 3-4 should really be enough.

The new images format isn't loading for me! I restarted app and still nothing. Anybody have ideas?
