Y'all can flame me for this but...

I would like your opinions on names!!! I know there's a name thread and a name board, but the thread is a mile deep and I'd rather get opinions from women I "know" :)

We are most likely using the middle name Grace. But we are struggling with a first name. My favorite he says reminds him of a movie character and his favorite I already said no to because its too sing songy with DDs name. So here are some of our options:

Fiona (my favorite, "Fi" for short)
Juliet or Juliette
Anastasia
Eliza (Ellie for short)
Hannah
Lana (his favorite)

We are not sharing her name until she's born which is why I'm not asking friends/family opinions. We really don't want to get negative feedback if we are in love with a name, and who can be negative when its attached to a cute baby? :)

Re: Y'all can flame me for this but...

  • I'm leaning towards Hannah myself so that would be my pick lol!
  • Loading the player...
  • Out of your list, Hannah is my favorite!
Our little girls can be middle name buddies because we have decided on Grace for a middle name as well.
  • Eliza & Juliet (either spelling) are my favorites from your suggestions. I really like Anastasia too.
  • I really like Ellie.
If we have a little girl, her first name will be grace! Love it :)
  • Love Eliza. Eliza grace was actually on our shortlist for dd1
  • Eliza Grace for sure! Timeless and beautiful.
  • Eliza Grace would be such a beautiful name!
  • I also like Eliza Grace.

Kudos for not sharing her name until she is born. We did that with Dd and I am so glad we did. We are doing the same with this one.

  • Eliza Grace sounds beautiful.
  • I love your first three choices. Hannah and nn Ellie are too common for my taste, but are also nice. Lana sounds dated to me.
  • Grace is a perfect middle name for all of them! I think Juliette is lovely as well as Anastasia. But I also wanted a nn Ellie (from Eleanor) until SIL named her girl Ellie (not a nn). I dont think Eliza is very common, but the nn Ellie does seem to be pretty popular.
  • I think Hannah Grace is beautiful, but I like Anastasia the best. I always loved that name, using Anna as a nickname. Unfortunately, one if my friends has an Annabelle, so we are looking at different names.
  • I love Eliza Grace! I also like Hannah Grace, but I'm been preferring "E" names lately.
  • I love Juliet, but H doesn't
  • Juliette and Hannah are my favorites! Very pretty. Your decision to wait to tell the name until birth is smart..I've also noticed people like to put their negative two cents in.

    My favorite is Juliet. :)
  • I really like Lana actually, it's girly, cute, and not super popular. Hannah is nice but so common (in a timeless way though like Sarah). I don't like Fiona. At all.

  • I like Eliza and Lana. Both very pretty, and not common.
  • I really like Lana as well. Or Eliza :)

My favorites are Fiona and Hannah. But they all sound great with Grace. (btw, Grace is our top pick for girl name. :) )

We seem to have taste about one step apart - Julia is on my short list, so Juliet gets my vote. I also love Lana/Layla/Lyla but we decided not to double up on first initials and L is taken :)
Eliza/Elise are beautiful but I know SO many Ellie's 3 and under right now.

ETA - I think Grace works with just about any first name, but I think of your options it flows best with the names ending in -a.

  • Not a huge fan of Hannah :/

But your other choices I'm digging!
Please use Juliette spelling if you choose this one. It makes so much more sense to me phonetically and I like the way it looks.
Not a fan of Eliza because I think of Eliza thornberry. But Ellie is absolutely adorable

    Anastasia is also beautiful!

They're not on your list, but I think it sounds cute together: Sophie/Sophia Grace and Carly Grace
  • I really like Lana actually, it's girly, cute, and not super popular. Hannah is nice but so common (in a timeless way though like Sarah). I don't like Fiona. At all.

I love this quote!!! Ha! My name is Sarah and if we have a girl, we have are going with Hannah! My DH is very traditional, so he didn't go for my Penelope bid.
  • Out of your choices - I'm team Hannah or Eliza. Lana and Anastasia aren't for me. The rest are cute.
  • My vote goes for Juliet. One of my favorites!
  • Juliette!! So pretty and not very common but not so uncommon that it's weird :)

  • Fiona reminds me of Shrek - love the movies but not what I want to think about when looking at a cute little girl. It also may be generational. I love the name Hannah but it's become too popular for my taste. My favorite is Eliza, because we're going with Elena, same nn. Great minds ;)
  • Eliza! But I'm partial to Ellie because that's DD's nn (from Elena...great name @AmadorRose !!)
  • I really like Lana and Juliette. I am not super crazy about Eliza but I love Ellie as a nickname - I really like Elliott for a girl nn Ellie actually. Fiona is NMS and reminds me of Shrek. Also, my cousin has a Fiona and she is such. a. turd. so that kind of kills it for me. Lol.
  • I really like eliza and lana.. however I named my dog lana so personally it makes me think of her so eliza would be my fav for a baby.
  • I'm drawn to Hannah but Lana is growing on me. It's a little different and I like that.
  • I love Hannah and Juliette! The rest are perfectly decent names but not my style.

  • I love the name Juliet, I've been trying to convince dh to love it too!
  • I think out of your list Lana then Juliette then Anastasia. I think Hannah is just so common and not that great really.
  • I love Eliza, but Lana is also very pretty a seems a little more unique to me.
  • I really like Ellie!

Thanks so much for all the input! We will likely not make a firm decision until she's born, but looks like Eliza is definitely the front runner right now! I'd like to consider Juliette still in the running (though he's not a huge fan). DH says your responses have just confirmed his distaste for Fiona, unfortunately...oh well! The Shrek reference was his issue too...!

Edited because I fail at typing.

You could tell your DH that Lana reminds me of a movie Character, too! (Superman, anyone ;) ).

I really do like all of your options... Good luck!
