We actually legitimately talked names for the first time yesterday and DH vetoed my favorite, sigh.. so no Sawyer.
Right now our list is: Lucy (Lucille)** Leah (pronounced LEE-yuh) Savannah
MN will likely be a family name, either Marie (mine) or Ann/e (both my mom and MIL and my grandmother was named Anna). I also like Catherine and Clarke.
Lucy will be the likely winner. DH really loves it. So yeah. That was about as easy as it was with DS. He's Eli(jah) Joseph.
I have a question about spelling - would the more traditional, more easy spelling of the name pronounced uh-LAY-nuh be Elaina or Elena? Or something completely different?
@amadorrose I was friends with an Italian exchange student in HS whose name is Elena. It is pronounced as you said. I prefer that spelling but both are completely legitimate. Fun fact: She ended up falling in love, just got married to a guy who went to our school and is now an Indiana girl. Funny how those things happen!
@cmjenkies I like Lucy Anne, especially with the family significance. I prefer the Elena spelling as well, I just foresee people pronouncing it incorrectly.
@AmadorRose for the pronunciation you want in the US I'd go with Elaina. If someone introduced themselves to me as that and asked me to spell their name that's what I would spell. If I met an Elena I would think it's pronounced the Eastern European way "eh-Leh-na" (kind of like Ellen-ah but with the any visitor on the second syllable)
First BFP 12/2012, MMC at 9 weeks
Second BFP 6/2013, resulted in DS, born 2/23/14 :-)
Third BFP 5/2015, natural MC at 6 weeks
Fourth BFP 8/2015, hoping for sticky little brother or sister to H!
Proud SAHM to our little monkey H.
Pro Vax, extended breasftfeeder, ring sling and stroller loving mama. I don't judge you unless you don't vaccinate!
We like the name Ian Patrick for a boy, though, I would like Ian Emery...
girls names are harder to come by (daddy can't seem to agree on any) but I love Sophie Jane, and Lorelai Piper. Another name I'm thinking is Alice, to honor my mom, but can't seem to think of a good middle. And I also would love to use Jean as a middle to honor my grandma who passed 10 years ago.
My boyfriend is also Brazilian, but he was adopted and raised in the U.S. he suggested no middle name, but to me that's the fun part of names, picking 2. Though only 1 would be easier.

@RoseShadow873 I just prefer more traditional name spellings. Plus, my name and stepdaughter's names begin with A, as well as far too many nieces and nephews.
We are having a boy and are thinking about Nixon, or Dakota. My 1st sons name is Dawson. This baby would be Nixon James if we choose that over Dakota. He would have the same initials as the hubby if we decided upon that. What do yall think?
I think of the watch brand Nixon. I like Dakota better.
I have a question about spelling - would the more traditional, more easy spelling of the name pronounced uh-LAY-nuh be Elaina or Elena? Or something completely different?
I have heard Elena pronounced uh-LAY-nuh. But on the flip side I know someone named Elena, pronounced El-leh-na. But I think the popular way of pronouncing that spelling would be uh-LAY-nuh
I would love to post my potential baby names, but they're Hawaiian and I think people would have a hard time reading them without hearing what it sounds like first

Can you dumb it down for us continental folks? We were thinking about Kai, learned it was Native American, Hawaiian, and a million other heritages (I'm part NA, so that was cool), and then vetoed it because apparently it's becoming a popular hipster name. I think Hawaiian names look beautiful, so I can only imagine they sound awesome as well.

There are some people from Hawaii on these boards. I actually lived there for 5 years so I know how to pronounce Hawaiian words decently well.
I'm having a girl. Her first name will be Helena. Helena /heh-la-na/ [3 sylls.] as a name for girls is of Greek origin, and Helena means "shining light." I'm not sure of the middle name yet but I'm leaning towards Ulani. Ulani - [ 3 syll. u-la-ni] The baby girl name is of Hawaiian origin. The name Ulani means 'cheerful'.
If it's a girl - she will be Hannah. (Though we aren't telling people until she is born). Middle name: Hannah Louise (mn of my mother in law) or Hannah Drew (my DH is Andrew). I'm leaning towards Drew, he likes Louise. Though I like both. Boy name we have 0000 idea. MN has to be Boyd as its a family name and my DH's mn.

Share! One of my best friends' son's middle name is Keoni. I love it!

But before I divulge, I want to give a little background story. In the traditional Hawaiian culture, you name your children either based off of a dream you have had about them or you have a kupuna pass down a name for you. Kupuna is a respected elder in the family who has gained wisdom and life experience or is a leader in the community.
I have had dreams of both scenarios. Boy or girl. During my dream with a girl, my family and I were arguing. There was chaos and a lot of hurt. But when someone brought my little girl to me, all was calm and tender. No more fighting. If I have a girl, her name will be Kaiulani Ho'o Lo'Kahi Eileen. Translating to princess peacemaker. And Eileen is my grandmas first name and my middle
My dream of my boy was, I was holding him in my arms and I felt an overwhelming sense of warm love for him. A love I've never felt before. For a boy, DH would like the initials to match his father--> A.L. My dads name is Lopaka. So our son would be named Ayden (still debating spelling) Lopaka Pumehana (meaning warm).
And end of story now lol
Edit because I accidentally pressed post before I was ready.

Ohhhh which island??
I lived on Oahu. That would not have been my first choice since it's so crowded but I got a lot of chances to visit other islands as well.
I'm the worst at picking names. I can't even pick names for pets. All my cats had unoriginal names - Meow Meow, Kitty, Fluffy (twice), and Squidgy.
We know we're having a girl, so that helps a bit. I actually liked the name Aria, until my fiance and his mother said "Ohh, like the hotel in Vegas!!" *sigh*
Fiance really likes the name Alessandra, or Alex for short. It's pretty, and I'm ok with it, but I don't love it. I'm just worried about the gender confusion by the name "Alex", ya know?
I like Charlotte (but it is quite popular now, unfortunately), Lydianna, Niomi (not the same as Naomi), and Elise.

Yessss! Oahu is very touristy. But my Lahaina is sadly becoming the same.

If you're having trouble with picking names maybe start by thinking of names that hold significance to you. Child hood friend, close family member, late family member, mentor..?
But I'm sorry I cannot agree with the "gender confusion" of the name Alex. I think that is a neutral name that can be used either way. In my culture my name is more reserved for males because of its meaning "chief of the heavens" but my mom apparently knew I was going to be badass and gave me a badass name. It sounds just as beautiful on me as it does on someone with a penis

I agree here. There are some androgynous names that I'm not a personal fan of, like Ryan or James for a girl. Just not my style. Names like Alex, Blake, Quinn, or Kai have been used for both boys and girls for a very long time - long enough that it shouldn't be confusing for a female to introduce herself as Sam (Samantha) or Alex.
I am amazed that y'all are so decisive. DD didn't have a name til she was a day old, and DH won't seriously talk names with me until we find out the sex (tomorrow!). Right now, the list is LONG.

Of your names, I like Alessandra and Charlotte the most (but also am sad Charlotte has become overly popular).
I'm partial to girl names that have multiple nickname options. Alessandra is great...if it suits her personality, her nn could be Alex, or Allie, or Alice, or Sandra. It has lots of room for her to choose an identity that fits her personality when she has that urge. I wouldn't worry about gender confusion. Alex isn't terribly unusual as a nn for girls.
We are thinking Laiken (lake-in) for our baby girl. DH loves it and it's the first girl name we have come across that I have even considered so I'm trying to figure out a middle name. Our last name starts with a B and its 4 syllables so I'm wanting a short, traditional-ish middle name since Laiken is unique enough.

@brenlo42 Not decisive over here at all! All of my kids had to wait at least a few days, and one daughter didn't have a name until she was a month old! My last son, we named, but he was over a year old before I was convinced that it was really his name. I seriously considered changing it.
Ok ok ok @AmadorRose and @mrstrax you ladies convinced me

I LOVE THAT!! It's a good way of looking at it
Thanks for the input ladies. I actually feel a bit better about the name Alex now

Also another option is using a different nn. Alessandra could be Allie (nn of my niece Alexandria)
Any suggestions?
Lynne for her grandmother and Grace for her great grandmother.
Some names I have been throwing around are:
Birdie
Hazel
Olive
Julie
Juno
