Yes I ann planning my own shower. If I Lived up north, with the rest of the big family, then I would have no need to. Our family always does suprise baby showers for mommy to be. Which is really awesome! But down south I don't have much family and am required to plan my own. And I have no shame in it.

My whole family lives on a different continent so they won't be throwing me one. If no one offers then I won't have one. The sun will rise again. I cringe of the thought of throwing myself a party and expecting my guests to BRING ME PRESENTS!!!!
Thanks for the FYI we where already planning on having the guest over for a house warming party as soon as we move in to our own place. But after the conception of this baby, we talked to a few people who already are coming to the party and everyone agreed to have the gathering about the baby verses throwing a party for the house (baby is more important than the house). So it has evolved in to a baby shower. We where supposed to move out ages ago. It still hasn't happened. If it's not gonna happen before baby comes then there won't be a baby shower. (Kinda why it's a non traditional baby shower)
I've really appreciated everyone's suggestions. After looking at our guest list and talking to everyone involved, we're doing two showers. My mom is hosting a more traditional girls one and then we're doing a co-ed shower at our house. I'm not throwing that for myself, a friend is planning it, but our house can accommodate the guest number and it's the closest location to the majority of the guests. We're viewing the co-ed shower more as just a friends get together before our lives get turned upside down and we no longer feel like venturing out past 5 pm! I don't care if we get any gifts, we're just excited to have all our friends together for a good time.

I kind of had an inkling it was an esl thing. Was truly just trying to help as sometimes it's a little hard to read through something quickly and make sense of it! What's your first language?

This.... my UK friends keep asking me if I am having a shower as it's a new concept... I politely say it is something that would be rude to throw for yourself
