I'd hardly consider polling some people on the internet adequate research (which you should be doing if you're unsure).
Our choices (after researching last time around): *e-mycin: no. I know I don't have a venereal disease, which is what it's intended to prevent from getting in baby's eyes (which can result in blindness) *hep B: no. I know I don't have it, which is why it's given at birth (to protect baby from transmission from mom). My DD started the series at our peds office later. *vitamin K: yes. There is no reason not to.

This doesn't have to do with immunizations, but I'm curious to know where you stand on bathing the baby after birth? (If your hospital gives you a choice. We are required to wait 24 hours regardless of our wishes.) I just like to read your responses to things like this, and it isn't worth a whole new thread.
@strlitemiss can I ask why? I'm just really fascinated by this stuff, sorry I'm so nosey! Seeing everyone's different views is so much fun to me. I just love how different people can be. Ps thanks for sharing !
We are going to do ours the day we leave, but in the hospital. I'm too nervous about it since she is our first and I want to have nurses around in case I need help.
Vernix is has anti microbial properties. So if you leave it on the skin until you're in baby's environment (aka your home) it's like an extra layer of protection and baby can acclimate better or that's the theory. When they wipe the baby off while handing baby too you they're actually rubbing the vernix in and the goop off. https://www.scienceandsensibility.org/rub-it-in-making-the-case-for-the-benefits-of-vernix-caseosa/
Thanks for that! I know a little about the vernix and why they make us wait at least 24 hours, but I definitely didn't know too much more than that, I won't lie. I'm still too nervous to wait and do it alone, better safe than sorry as far as learning and doing it correctly. I just love other people's opinions and thoughts on these matters. I appreciated the article too.
Eye ointment is only to protect baby from STDs that you have. Are you clean? Then not necessary.
Hep B is just for that. Unless your baby will be playing with used needles or having sex, again, not necessary.
Vitamin K in the shot form is really too high of a dose. It actually increases the chances of jaundice. Unless you're having a boy and plan on not leaving him intact, it's also unnecessary.
I am about 50:50 on vaccines, so I am planning to just flip a coin with each new vaccine offered and let fate decide which ones she gets!
You sound like most the moms on here. I seriously hope you're joking.
What?! What does that mean? You don't know us and you certaintly don't know me or what I care about or do when it comes to the care of my children. I let it go with your catty remark about us in the other vaccine post but for goodness sakes enough is enough! You are just downright rude to make such careless insulting comments!
@thisusername We waited until we were home (I think her first bath was around day 4?) for the reasons that @strlitemiss mentioned.
We also only bathed DD once a week or so. Extra baths are not good for their skin, and babies aren't "dirty". A simple wet wash rag to clean up any spit up or blowout diapers was plenty.

She literally said she's flipping a coin. How the hell is that being responsible?
I'll give you guys credit, you aren't leaving it to to a coin. You're leaving it up to a stranger that knows a little more than a coin. How's that?

1. Missing the sarcasm in @cbou's comment is hilarious.
2. Go ahead and assume away, but many of us on here are making fully Informed decisions about vaccinating our children. Not all of us take our doctors at their word and do no further research. I'll speak for myself here (though I'm sure I'm not the only one who could say this), but not only do I read the vaccine inserts, I also read peer-reviewed studies published in medical journals regarding vaccinations. In addition, I make a hobby of reading anti-vax propaganda and actually following all of the links to the studies they cite. Then I laugh my ass off at the conclusions they draw and the sources they consider legitimate. I do the same for pro-vax propoganda, by the way (though admittedly with much less hysterical laughing because their studies tend to be legitimate and not written by discredited "doctors" or folks looking to make a buck off of me buying their "natural" supplements). Then I use my critical thinking skills to do a little cost-benefit analysis of the decisions I make for my children and I end up coming to the conclusion that I'd rather protect them (and those around them) from the absolutely deadly diseases currently making a comeback thanks to people like you. I recognize the small but still present risk of a vaccine injury and I make the informed decision to vaccinate anyway.
You're welcome for adding my kids to the buffer that will hopefully keep your children from getting the diseases you're choosing not to protect them against.

Is there a "most ridiculous posts" award? Because I think you've won it ten times over.
We're skipping eye ointment and hep b because they're not necessary in our case. We're going to do VitK orally, which is an option our hospital provides, and if it's a boy we won't be circumcising so it's not quite as integral anyways. We'll delay first bath until we're home, I really want H to be the one to do the first bath too.
Of course, all of this is with my doctor's blessing after discussing options with her.
We didn't do the eye ointment with my son because I don't have STD's do we won't be doing it this time either. We delayed Hep B and got the vitamin K shot (I'm going to ask about oral vitamin K though).

Funny how you supposedly did all this research yet believe that non vaccinated kids run around spreading diseases they don't have nor haven't intentionally had exposure to, like those kids who get live vaccines.
But we don't believe in shedding at all, despite the fact we most likely came across an insert, from the glorious CDC no less, that will warn patients to stay away from the young, the elderly and immunocompromised people.
We'll be doing the eye ointment, Hep B and Vitamin K shot as recommended.
Eye ointment: I've tested negative for sexually transmitted infections, but there's no downside to the ointment that I can find from reputable sources. The benefit is probably very low in my case but so is the risk so I'm going ahead with it.
Hep B: Hepatitis B is a nasty disease that is spread through blood and other body fluids. I don't believe anyone in my family has it, but little one will be going to day care and little kids aren't exactly known for their awesome hygiene. According to reputable sources the risk is minimal so this one is a yes for me as well.
Vitamin K: Vitamin K is injected to head off a pretty rare but serious problem of baby being unable to clot because of a Vit K deficiency at birth. This can present as uncontrolled bleeding in the GI tract or even the brain. It can cause long-term damage and even death. Sadly, I've read that the cases of this kind of bleeding have increased since people started refusing the injection. Here's a link to a blog about someone this who had this happen to their baby. There is essentially no risk to getting the Vitamin K injection so we will be accepting it for our son.

Can you point out where I said non vaccinated kids are running around spreading disease? I'd appreciate you not putting words in my mouth. But while we're on the subject, can you tell me who they traced the measles outbreak in CA to? Oh, that's right. An unvaccinated family. Huh.
Every year herd immunity goes down thanks to parents like you who think without the proper qualifications they can ignore science and not vaccinate with no consequences. Let me guess, you think herd immunity is a myth, right?
PS: Only a few vaccines administered today contain live virus, and those viruses are attenuated. Clearly someone needs to research more. We've already gone back and forth on the shedding crap and I've posted several peer reviewed studies on the issue, which you conveniently ignored. Manufacturers need to cover their bases, of course, so they recommend caution, but there is not a single case of a recently vaccinated person spreading disease to an immunocompromised individual in the United States. Not one. Feel free to keep ignoring statistics, though.
Peace out, homie. Your confirmation bias is too strong to bother with.
I am also aware that this is a bias article for the shot but again the evidence is there with all sort of sources backing it up. These sources also have pretty decent standing within the community it supports.
I plan on getting the vitamin K shot (we do plan on circumcising, and probably would get the shot either way anyway), the hep b vaccine (even though neither of us have it, the benefit vs. risk makes sense to me), but we will not be doing the eye ointment. I know that I'm clean and because of that it seems like an unnecessary eye irritant for baby. I probably wouldn't do the hep b either because I know I don't have it, but it protects down the road, even a few years from now when he'll be interacting with other kids and could come in contact with body fluids that are infected, even just cuts and scrapes which all kids get at times. I also plan on getting the heel stick for screening tests beyond the PKU.
We will be giving baby all recommended vaccines so that she will have the best protection possible. My husband is a microbiologist that works in vaccine research. Also, the eye ointment is not only for protection against STDs but also keeps baby from getting pink eye in the event that they are exposed to fecal matter during the birthing process. As it is not uncommon for a woman to have a bowel movement during birth.

When we were discussing eye ointment with our OB and L&D staff; pink eye was the first thing they brought up. They primarily focus on that reasoning because a big majority don't know about it and think it's only STD prevention.

Instead of vaccinations, just fill his first bottle with Emergen-C. It's basically the same, I mean better.
Add essential oils to his bath.
Don't forgot to burn sage in the nursery to ward off disease and evil spirits.
Never take your baby to a doctor. Instead, take him to one of those all-knowing Pharmacists. They will know what to do. Or a wizard, perhaps.
Or you could come back to planet earth and get your kid vaccinated.
My babies get nothing liquid outside of breastmilk for the first year.
Oil never mixes with water, so no thanks.
I have God in my life, don't need to hold His hand and help Him. Besides, He's the one who blessed us with this baby.
I prefer a functioning doctor, thanks.
I know you're being snarky, I can do it too
My kids haven't gotten any of the diseases you're paranoid your kids will be getting. I just don't pump my kids with dangerous things, things from animal body parts, or things from fetuses.

Diagnosed with placenta increta post delivery: emergency partial hysterectomy - cervix and ovaries still intact
Gestational surrogacy or adoption TBD
Our choices (after researching last time around):

Find a pedi and ask them.....
Dd got all of her shots and baby 2 will get all of their shots. Therefore in my medical opinion I say yes get them all and do all vaccinations
Ps thanks for sharing !
We are going to do ours the day we leave, but in the hospital. I'm too nervous about it since she is our first and I want to have nurses around in case I need help.
