In response to this; my husband works in an ICU and they make ALL the doctors on his floor and some of the nurses attend a few classes as far as pharmaceutical training goes. They have their own pharmacy in the floor so it's really important for all of them to know what it is/what it does/how it does/ why it does/ who it's for.
Soooooo; I wouldn't say that all doctors lack training because that's like saying every pregnant woman who can type in capital letters is right. ;)

  • Doesn't the flu shot hold its effectiveness for around 6 months? So even if it did "wear off early"... We're all due in around 3.5-4 months.
ETA::: the flu shot becomes effective within TWO WEEKS.

I'd rather have the flu shot and not need it than be sick and chance being hospitalized by a virus I could have prevented OR lowered the effects of.

Also, essential oils haven't been approved safe.... And they're NOT medicinal. Nor has emergen-c.
Get off your soapbox until you can show some valid facts.
    :-h

:) every person on here has said " my doctor said baa baa baa"

Don't tell me to give facts when you know darn well you'll just roll your eyes and continue swallowing the crap your doctor keeps feeding you.
Nowhere in my comment did it say "my doctor said ____".
    Thanks though!
  • I had mine last week, by of a sore arm after but no side effects. Virus is dead so you can't 'catch flu' from it anyway. I'm a teacher and kids are sent in ill by their parents all the time so not worth the risk. Was off for a week with flu last year, so not risking that again, particularly when all we can take is paracetamol - no decongestants would make flu even more unbearable!

Sorry I care more about what's happening to my kids than most people here are. My bad I spend countless months and years pouring over medical articles and research papers.

I think the comment about the kids and people using this app in more conversations than you do is completely irrelavant and just downright catty. It's one thing to defend yourself, but to insult someone else's parenting because that have more access to an app or website than you is borderline childish. Actually; it's just flat out childish. No parent has a right to judge another and I certainly don't think it was necessary for you to make a comment like that.

    Edit: fat fingers again; spelling.

All your comments are just regurgitated statements from your doctor. So yes, indirectly, you said " my doctor said " you just cut to the chase.

The flu vaccine passes through you to the placenta and is said to protect your infants once their born while in the hospital nursery and outside of the hospital. My doctor recommend I get it as well as my husband since we are having twins and they may be born early. I haven't gotten the flu shot in 8 years but I did this year but only for my babies protection. I received the inactive strain in no way did I want the active spray.

I believe this goes back to my similar comment on the social media debacle... There are so many people out there who believe that the world is out to get them. Doctors are the devil, the CDC is the devil, pharmaceutical companies are the devil, vaccines are the devil. We live in such a fear-mongering world where people would rather put thousands (including themselves) at risk because in their minds the costs somehow outweigh the benefits when it has been proven time and time again (from reputable sources) that these vaccines can and do help.
I agree with you 100%. But this sharkgirl is not even rational with her irrational fear (does that make sense?)  She thinks the doctors and the cdc and the pharmaceutical companies are all out to get her, EXCEPT THE PHARMACISTS. We should all ignore everyone else in the medical and research field, except the pharmacists ?!?!
In addition, she's all into the "natural remedies" but drinks Emergen-C almost every day ( I love the stuff because it's tasty but it's a very unnatural and sugary way to get vitamins!)
I would understand more if she thought all manufactured "medicinal" items are made by companies to make money despite their bad and harmful qualities and refrains from vitamins and immunity boosters like emergen c and instead eats actual food items that are high in vitamins to stay healthy. I just don't see the logic behind her selective trust.

  • I've never been a big believer in the flu shot, neither is my pediatrician (which kind of surprised me when I found out), and I'm choosing not to get it this year either. I asked the pediatrician, she wasn't concerned that I wasn't getting it and my OB hasn't even mentioned it. My DH got walking pneumonia a few years ago, so he gets it every year.  It's your personal choice, do what you feel comfortable with.

  • My son and I got the preservative free shot this week. It didn't even hurt! The pharmacist said its because the preservative free needle is way finer/sharper. My son didn't even cry. My arm is pretty sore now but other than that, I feel fine. My husband is as stubborn as a mule and won't get one so it'll be interesting to see how we all do this flu season.

Yeah, get it right. She wasn't saying she loves her kids more than we do because she's on the app less, she was saying she loves her kids more because she's the only one here willing to go against the overwhelming majority of scientists and medical researchers studying immunology, diseases, and vaccines who say that vaccinations are vital for our society. She's the ONLY one who cares enough about her children to ignore countless peer reviewed studies and mountains of empirically based research and instead rely on quacky Google University "experts" for medical advice. The rest of us are just sheep who clearly never research anything or look beyond what our doctors tell us because we don't care about keeping OUR children safe. Duh. Get it right. Hey that's how you can naturally boost your immune system to avoid getting it in the first place! Wow, fascinating isn't it?

  • Oh, the 'it says so on the insert' argument. That doesn't mean that pregnant women shouldn't get the flu shot. You have to understand the context of those inserts/ warning labels.

Nothing has been 'cleared safe' for pregnant women. Even with Tylenol, the insert/ directions says you have to consult with your dr if you are pregnant. The inserts and directions in the vaccines are written by pharmaceutical companies to shield them from any potential liabilities. Those are not medical advice.
Doctors consider risk of not getting the flu shot v the risk from the vaccine and recommend it. That's the medical advice, not the insert in the vaccine.

Doctors are suppose to notify the flu manufacturers every time they give a shot to a pregnant woman. They also cannot get sued if you have any reaction. Next?

I don't get your argument. Are you saying that because doctors cannot get sued for their patient having a reaction to the vaccine, they, without any medically based reasons, recommend flu shots for just the heck of it? In what sad world do you live in that you believe all doctors dole out medical advice against medical research and sound reasoning just because they are shielded from medical malpractice suits?

The fact that you posted that reply shows you do not get it. It's called Evidence based care. Plenty of doctors don't use it.

  • @sharkgirl7  in addition, Emergen-C is not approved for pregnant ladies. Their own website says you need to consult with your doctor before doing so. So I guess you know best over medical providers which warning insert to follow and which insert not to follow.

Nope. Absolutely not. Believe it or not, despite what lie your doctor and the CDC feeds you, but the flu shot has NEVER been cleared as safe for pregnant women. Don't believe me? Ask for the vaccine insert, not that ridiculous handout they give you, and read it yourself. I believe it's in section 8.

Remove all those cases and death is incredibly rare. Please, don't reply with anecdotal stories about your bosses nephews neighbors girlfriend being perfectly healthy. I said rare, not impossible.

It takes 4-6 weeks to become affective so no one can claim no side affects if they are within that window. It's typically less than 25% effective since they guess the stains that will be common and they typically guess wrong. It's not ten strains either. Wow. It's usually like 4-5. It also stops working after so many months so those of you who got it in Sept/Oct it'll probably wear off by the time you have your baby.

The other shot that's being forced down our throats, "whopping cough" one, is actually dtap (tdap??) Which is a three in one. if you look at what it includes, one of the three is diphtheria. Check out if that's been approved for pregnant women ;)

I take plenty of vitamin supplements, drink emergen c almost every day, and use essential oils (you know, eastern medicine which is natural). I haven't gotten the flu in five years. Every year I have, has been the years I've gotten the shot-because it doesn't work.

No they haven't. Diseases were on the decline prior to vaccines being introduced. Some vaccines even made diseases spread faster (polio anyone?) But unless you actually search out those details and instead just blindly follow your pro vaccine doctor, you're still part of the problem.
