Which spelling is better?

I know that Trip is phonetically correct, but I've also been given negative feedback on the spelling. I've been told Tripp makes it more of a name. I am honestly confused. Any feedback is welcome.

You promise? I think you can do better than the name picked by Bristol Palin.
Thank you but we have set the name in stone. I didn't know that she picked that name, I don't really keep up with that stuff. Though I'm not sure why it matters. It was suggested to us by family and we fell in love with it. :)

Isn't Trip generally a nn for a third generation not a given unless you are a Palin. I can't image the given name Tripp would be good especially if you aren't super coordinated or even have an awkward phase
I do understand where you are coming from.

  • Tripp is better than Trip. At least Tripp made the top 1000 on the social security baby name list for 2014.

  • I honestly don't know what to tell you. Trip just doesn't look like a name at all - I think common noun or verb. So I would side eye it. Plus I was a clumsy teen (which is why I would be terrified to use Grace, though it's a pretty name). But Tripp looks made up to me, and still not a name.

Suggestions that come to mind and are similar sounding:
    Kip
    Christopher nn Kit (like Marlowe)
    Phillip nn Pip
    Travis
    Trent
    Troy

Just trying to be helpful. It's your baby after all
  • Tripp. I like it. You go Glenn Coco. Just block those haters

  • I secretly love the name Tripp but it does remind me of a crooked politician...
  • We are southern, and I know a lot of name preferences can be different down here. So I understand why some people can think its absolutely terrible, its actually not so unusual to southerners though. I appreciate everyone's feedback. :)

My thoughts exactly. I've only ever heard of Trip as a nickname for a boy who is "the third." And I'm born and raised in the south.  :-??

They are actually a pretty wealthy family and it was an old family name. They were just preppy people.

OP, I wouldnt let Bristol Palin's choices cloud yours. DH and I REALLY like Caitlyn as a name but we're not letting Caitlyn Jenner ruin it.

  • If you're set on this name (and while I STRONGLY urge you to SERIOUSLY rethink it, I can't say more than that) I'd do the double PP. Tripp. Because otherwise, you're naming your kid after a bout of clumsiness. And whether he grows up to be a klutz or a star athlete, people are going to rip on him fiercely.

For some reason I feel like the odds of him tripping around his whole life are pretty slim, besides if thats really the case then he can go by his middle name. I just refuse to change the name I really love over a "what if". Besides, you can turn almost any name into something else.

There are so many things that bother me about that post. The LEAST of which is that Caitlyn is actually a name that has been around for generations.

My point is not that I have an issue with Caitlyn Jenner because I don't. My point is that I wouldn't let someone in the news or Hollywood ruin a name for me because of a connotation from today. Caitlyn is just one of the names we liked so that's the only other Caitlyn I can think of for an example to make the point.

Just because you (royal you not particular person) don't like the Palin family it shouldn't ruin Tripp for someone if they like it. I don't see it much different than some of the more common names that either didn't exist or were obscure 10 years ago.

Ok gotcha. Also i was hesitant to say that only because Caitlyn Jenner's former self, Bruce Jenner, was apparently a giant, entitled asshole and there are legitimate reasons to dislike Caitlyn now.

And @cglr2012 it sounds like you're set on the name so I maintain, simply because it looks better if for no other reason, the double pp. I was being fairly glib in my last post but i do like the pp better.
