Baby Shower Hostess Gifts?

Has anyone else thought of this?  If so, please share what you're planning on purchasing…

I really want to give something to those helping to throw the shower.  I just don't know what is appropriate?

I gave hostess gifts to my bridesmaids for my wedding shower, but they were gifts they could use on my bachelorette party, i.e. beach bag, towel, cosmetic bag, etc.

  • I was gonna get my hostess her fav wine and make a goodie basket with fuzzy socks and bath and body works lotions
  • When I've hosted showers in the past I've been given a gift card to somewhere I enjoy to shop. But I really like the gift basket idea
  • I'm getting personalized boxes made...including a poem, their favorite liquor, shot glass, gift cards to the movies, Starbucks and Victoria's Secret, and other items of their favorite things
  • Thanks you, and a candle is what I gave my host.
  • I also did the basket of Bath & Body goodies and wrote a thank you card.

  • I am buying my hostess a massage certificate to a place I know she frequents.

  • Oh I didn't think about this, I'm such an a hole! Haha thanks for setting me straight ladies. I love that shower basket idea but good wine is also super easy and I know will be appreciated. Something to think about...
  • I've never heard of this before.
  • I've never heard of this before, and now I feel bad about not getting anything for the host of my shower!

  • I had two showers with DS one for my family in Michigan hosted by my sister and SIL and one here in Texas for my friends and a few relatives that live here, hosted by my best friend. I ended up getting both my sister and SIL pearl necklaces for their gifts and I got my best friend a necklace and earring set from James Avery (she is obsessed with all things James Avery).

  • We are not having a shower as this will be our third child but I think giving the host(s) a thank you gift is a lovely gesture. Hosts are sometimes unrecognized for all they do and definately deserve a thank you. I would go with a gift basket with something they enjoy like bath goodies like pp suggested, also if I was on the receiving end I would love a gift basket
  • My boss is getting a really fancy bottle of red wine for throwing one of my showers.
My non drinking SILs... Not sure yet. Maybe a gift card to target or some nice lotion and fuzzy socks?
  • I gave my aunt and cousin a nice bottle of wine and a thank you card for my shower in 2012. :)

  • I'm just doing cards and bouquets of flowers for my hosts.
  • Great ideas! I had never heard of this before and it is such a nice gesture!

I don't think it's a big deal and definitely not expected.  Showers are expensive and my SIL completely dropped the ball, so my friends have really stepped up…and I want them to know how much I appreciate them (and my SIL too).
  • For my bridal shower, I got her a set of 3 candle holders and some candles to go with. It was a family friend so I knew it would go with the decor in her home. It wasn't anything to crazy, just a little something to say thank you for opening up her home and throwing me he shower. She did a great job and made sure to include all of the things on my wedding wish list that weren't actually possible for the wedding.

Thanks for reminding me! My mom is throwing my baby shower and I totally would have forgotten to get her something!
  • I'm putting together a basket of shower goodies - luxury face & body scrub, gel booties, super comfy knit socks from Urban Outfitters & some yummy lotion with a card that says "hope your next shower is as wonderful as mine was!" (thanks Pinterest!)

    Love this!!!!
  • Im hosting my friend's shower, but I dont want any gifts for it. If she writes me a thank you card thats fine, but i dont want her to spend money on me. We do enough with each other anyway. Am i the odd one here? I guess this reminds me that i should tell her this...

I've never heard of this before either. I think the whole giving gifts for every single thing is getting ridiculous. I just hosted a baby shower for a friend and she simply included an extra special thank you in her card for the gift I gave her and for hosting the shower. I did not expect her to "repay" me for throwing her a shower and I doubt many hostesses would. I feel like now there's a competition with who can give back the most gifts to friends who are giving them gifts... Where does it end?! However, I think it's totally sweet that you all are buying things for your hosts to appreciate them haha ;;)
  • I am definitely giving something but probably not as extravagant as some here. I think of it along the lines of any other hostess gift, which is pretty common, for someone having you over for dinner etc. Wine or flowers and a thank you card the day of probably.
  • Gift certificate for a pedicure from me! I don't think hosts necessarily expect gifts, but my aunt throwing my shower is constantly away on business and I know she doesnt have much time to throw me a shower. I think she deserves a little pampering :)
  • Wine, candles, bath & body time products, gift certificate to a favorite restaurant or a spa...

  •  Probably a small gift with a handwritten card.

  • I hadn't even thought of this but now I definitely feel like I need to, especially since I know that the ladies throwing mine are putting so much in to it (and I know how much it sucks to not feel appreciated when you do something like that for someone).

I like the wine idea, and I think for most of the ladies they will too :) Maybe something different for my MIL since she doesn't really like alcohol that much but my SIL's, mom, and friend will all like that :)

Update: I've bought the wine for everyone (again, except MIL)! And as a little PSA if any of you ladies were considering buying wine for gifts (or you know, just to buy wine) livingsocial has a deal of pay $25 for $75 to spend at this online wine shop! I finished up my buying that way :) Now to find something for my MIL and to finish off the gift for my SIL who is doing the majority of the planning (she likes sangria, so I got the wine to make it but I still have to find something to put it in and of course actually MAKE the sangria)

  • I got my SIL and other hostesses personalized gifts that I knew each would love. I spent about $50 on each hostess which still wasn't equal to the amount of planning and work that went into the shower- but I knew they would know we appreciated it. I got my SIL a anthropologie candle and a lotion and hand soap set from Williams Sonoma. Another girl got a set of William Sonoma dish towels, wash cloths and a recipe book. Something both girls loved!
  • I gave wine with a cute poem attached that I found on Pinterest under baby shower hostess gifts. ..it was an inexpensive but thoughtful option. Other posters have great ideas too! Good luck :)
  • I am having two showers. The first my mom and SIL are putting it together. I got my Mom a necklace from things remembered and got "Gran" engraved on it. And for my SIL I got a bracelet with "Aunt". This was a bit expensive. But they are putting this HUGE thing together. For my other, my husbands Aunts, Cousins and Mom is putting it together. For them I just got some things from bath and body works. Which was wwaaaaayyyyy cheaper since they have rally great sales right now with the holidays.
  • My MIL and mom are co-hosting my shower, and I got them both bracelets that have a charm on them with a quote about grandmas. They're cute!
  • Thanks for the idea! Never thought about this but definitely want to do a gift basket for my hostess'! They totally deserve it!

I ended up getting my mom the grandma Alex and ani bracelet for a hostess gift. I know she'll love it!
  • I copied @brightonborn's idea and gave each of my hostesses a gift basket with bath products and a note that said "Hope your next 'shower' is as awesome as mine!" We also took a group photo at the shower with the hostesses, my husband, and me, which I had printed into greeting cards on Walgreens.com and used for thank you notes.
  • When are you gals giving the gifts? I just found some cute bracelets, but they won't be here in time for the shower. I don't know if it's ok to give them out after the shower.
  • I gifted the hosts both Mary Kay mint foot cream and warn socks. They were wrapped like tootsie rolls and said for your tootsies! My mom and sister loved them!!!

I delivered gifts in person about a week after the shower, along with thank you notes for the shower and for the gifts the hostesses got me.
