NBR: Stitch Fix?

This is totally not baby related, but have any of you ever tried Stitch Fix? I keep waffling back and forth about trying it, and just noticed that they have a maternity option. I'm wondering if it's worth it and how often you receive pieces you love. I can be picky about clothing (especially maternity), so I'm nervous that I won't like stuff that's sent. Gimme the good, bad and the ugly!

Re: NBR: Stitch Fix?

  • I personally haven't but one of my best friends uses it and loves it... she did it pre-maternity and has continued it through her pregnancy. She said they rely heavily on your Pinterest boards so if you actively use Pinterest (or start to so you can show them more of your style) it seems to work well!

  • I did! Most of the time the stuff was my style but I'm cheap and didn't want to pay $50 for a blouse. I say try it! If you don't like anything they would charge you $20. If you do want to buy something they sent--that $20 would go towards that bill. I have always found something I like that they sent. I just would get frustrated that I spent $100 or so on clothes and the next day I'm in target and can't buy cute stuff there because I already spent a lot of clothes for the month.
  • Many of my friends use it and spend hundreds and hundreds a month. I can handle a shirt a month but... I don't think I have the will power to send something back if I love it and don't want to spend the money.

  • I have been a subscriber for about a year and a half. I really like it. I just switched over to the maternity option, so we'll see how that goes. Definitely give them all the info you can (yes, a Pinterest board helps a LOT) and no, the prices are not cheap, although you can tell them a range you prefer to pay and they try to fit that in along with the other criteria you specify. I would say I usually pay $40-60 for a shirt and $80-110 for a dress.

Out of about a dozen boxes, I've kept the whole thing twice, sent everything back twice, and otherwise usually kept one or two pieces. It's probably not worth it if you're pinching pennies, but if you have some disposable income, it's a fun and easy way to shop. I definitely like the surprise element, which isn't for everyone.

  • I call bullshit on them looking at my Pinterest boards. I made them public too. Every box or mine was the same, and I felt obligated to buy the cheapest thing in because they take $20 whether you buy or not. Do it once if you're curious but I'm mad that I ever did it. Plus I can find clothes that are better quality for less money- I got a two sweaters and earrings before I canceled and one of the sweaters looks shitty and all stretched out of shape and doesn't wash well.
  • I generally like it, but I had to tell them like 3 times NO TIGHT PANTS. I was a little irritated they didn't listen the first couple of times (size 12 with hips- they do not look good on me, plus they're totally inappropriate for my job). I just signed up for the maternity option as well.
You can set up the frequency for whatever you want, I think there's a once a month, once every other month, or just when you ask for one
  • I got about 8 boxes. Of those I kept 1-2 pieces from each. They didn't last very well though. Then I got two boxes in a row that just plain didn't work. Also, I asked repeatedly not to send a specific style of dress and I swear I got one in every box. I finally quit about 2 months ago. Then found out I was pregnant and higher about trying the maternity part. I decided not to because you can typically find pretty cute maternity items at a fraction of the cost.
  • I have been a monthly subscriber for two years, and recently "suspended" my subscription. Lately I've been disappointed in the lack of personalization and the boxes sent to me. I review Stitch Fix on my blog if you're interested (www.cottentales.com). I used to love it, and I'm sure I'll go back eventually.

Right now I'm loving ThredUp, which is like-new designer/name brand clothes for a fraction of the cost... And they have maternity! Check it out!
