Stretch Marks - Tell me i'm not alone

I found my first stretch mark this morning at 32w+. Not only that, but it's huge and purple and hideous... like you couldn't come in gently and ease into it? I'm sure the rest of it's friends are not far behind. Have you seen any yet? If anyone has any recommendations for helping them disappear i'm all ears.

  • Nothing's going to help them disappear. Just prepare yourself for more! Lotion your belly and make sure you don't itch!!! The redness will fade once you have the baby.

  • Thanks @tewinkle27 - It was bound to happen. I have them on my back/booty from teenage years too. However i've been lathering with coconut oil and palmers every day, and was hoping I was in the clear! UGH!
  • Agreed that there's no getting rid of them. If you're going to get them you're going to get them no matter what you lather on :( I just found my first ones about a week ago but luckily they are small and are white (I'm super pale so you can't see them all that much). After pregnancy they can start to fade a bit but not completely. Wear them with pride!
  • I've always been told it's more genetics than anything you do but moisturizing helps with any itching or discomfort with getting them. After my previous pregnancy all the stretch marks I'd gotten turned white and you really have to look to see them. This pregnancy I've carried higher and the old stretch marks just grew upward. One of my scars from having my gall bladder removed also looks like it exploded but they're all already turning white.

They're a badge of honor. Wear them with pride. I look at mine and always think of my babies.

Coconut oil ftw!!! I've been using it liberally every night since I found my first stretch marks. They've definitely gotten less, um...vivid in color, and I have not noticed more since I've been using it. I probably use a tablespoon's worth every night.

I got a short wide jar of it, so I just keep it on my bathroom counter and scoop out some with my fingers.
  • 33 weeks and none... Yet. I feel like I shouldn't have answered this poll because I probably just jinxed myself. I highly doubt I get out of this pregnancy Scott free... But here's hoping.

I'm trying to stay on top of my cocoa butter lotion, but I hear it's all genetics and my mother had them.

I do the same thing! Love that stuff! I'll keep at it, even though it didn't do it's job hahaah
  • I've been expecting to see them on my belly and inspect it a few times a week with a mirror...while all my attention was focused there I didn't notice all the new stretch marks forming on my sides haha apparently my love handles are just as pregnant as my belly and that's where they're all popping up (for now?)
They're red/blue now but I have old ones there that have turned white and aren't that noticeable so I'm not too bothered by them.

I have heard that AFTER pregnancy there can be more success with reducing the appearance of stretch marks than there is at trying to prevent them. With laser treatments or I've seen people on Facebook post photos after using some stretch mark gel by It Works (I don't know anything about this company or their products I just have fb friends that sell it and see these before/after photos and they look pretty impressive)

Yes coconut oil here as well! But it really is genetics :(
  • I have only noticed a couple stretch marks on my boobs. They are underneath. I've been using bio oil and make sure I moisturize regularly. I panicked a little when I first noticed, but I knew it was a possibility. They're worth it.
  • 36 weeks and horrible tiger stripes on my butt and upper legs!! Surprisingly my belly and boobs are mark free. I guess my hips are getting ready to birth this baby!!
  • I'd say 4-5 short ones on each side below my belly button.  I've been lathering up with Burt's Bees Mama Bee Butter after each shower.  I definitely have a lot less than the other ladies in my family, and now that I'm 35 weeks I'm hoping that they don't migrate further north.
  • So I have them really bad on my butt and hips but none on my stomach. Super weird.
  • I had one pop up on my boob a couple of weeks ago. Like others have said, big purple and just-boom- there. I'm not even sure why it happened because it's not like they've grown to any nice, look at me, size. Doesn't make me hopeful for after babe comes when they do get big, maybe this stretch mark is a preview to prepare me. Almost there, ladies!
  • I noticed one in my side at about 12 weeks (I hadn't gained any weight at that point). Now I'm 32+wks (up 14lbs) and have one right where my belly button ring used to be. It's like it's coming out of the old piercing hole! I'm hoping it doesn't decide to spread north but will have to accept it if it does! Hey, we are literally growing little human beings and our bodies are going through dramatic changes (although I'm still freaking out about how it will look after baby is born)!
  • Mine are on my new thunder thighs and the bottom of my belly. They're white and purple lol. I've been using coconut oil for the itching, but they are genetics are than anything. I'll take them as a very small price to pay for a healthy, growing baby :)
  • Yup its my butt and back of my thighs. Not feeling so sexy anymore
  • I had purple ones with my 1st and the same ones turned pale over time.now 20 years later with my 3rd in the last month it's just those ones from 20 years ago showing a tiny bit less pale, more pink But no new ones and I'm measuring 47" around.I have always considered them my battle scars and wear them with pride.
  • I woke up at 30 weeks with tiger stripes all over my ass. And my boobs soon followed. I cried intitally, then I got over it. My mom first told me she didn't have any. Now that I have them she said she did have them during the pregnancies but they went away immediately after. So let's cross our fingers!
  • I have some serious stripes on my lower belly. It looks a little like my baby girl has been trying to claw her way out ;) I knew I would get them so I've been using coconut oil at night and shea butter in the morning. Doesn't seem to help, but in my imagination world it's going to at some point! And who knows, maybe they would be worse if I wasn't using them.
  • My husband told me he thinks they look bada$$ and he thinks it's awesome that I'll have battle scars from growing a person. Haha! I told him he may need to remind me of that when I'm crying about them later.
  • I have none on my front. I had some on the underside of my breast when they started stretching and growing, but I started using this "Mamas Body Butter" stuff, and they slowly faded away. I have some on my butt however that the body butter just doesnt seem to want to help, I feel its keeping them at bay tho. Maybe after baby is born Ill be able to get rid of them like the ones that were on my breasts.
  • No stretch marks yet but I have a feeling they'll come after delivery! I had my belly button pierced and took it out early on in the pregnancy. Does anyone else have a nasty scar from it?
  • @ammnam14 I had my belly button pierced when I was younger and haven't had it in for over 15 years but have always had a tiny scar from it. Now the tiny scar is starting to stretch out.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I have a nasty scar from a terrible belly button piercing that my body literally spit out on its own. The scar used to be half in and half out and I never knew how big it was. Now that it's all on display it's baffling how bad of a scar it is!!
  • I have the same thing with the belly button ring scar!!!!
  • I suppose it's just another pregnancy perk lol.
  • I've been using almond oil and haven't had any yet. But after I had my first I had them all over my boobs but they seemed to be temporary. I'm going to stick with my almond oil
  • No stretch marks from pregnancy (yet) and I'm 36w. I do have old ones from when I was a teenager on my butt and hips just from growth spurts but those are faded and not really noticeable. My mom got them this way too but none during any of her 3 pregnancies. I truly believe they're genetic but I still use belly balm from Honest Company and body butter from the Body Shop just because they make my skin feel good and it's prone to being dry anyway.
Also have belly button piercing from when I was 16 and I haven't worn an jewelry in it for years but the hole remains. It hasn't grown bigger or anything....it's just there. Kinda wish it would just go away!!
  • No bad stretch marks yet, some lighter one on my upper thighs by my hips. Although I'm convinced there's probably a bunch on the underside of my belly where I can't see them! I also have some ugly purple spider veins blooming on the sides of my belly & the scar on the bottom of my belly button from my gallbladder surgery is pretty unattractive. :( But as others had said already, we're making whole human beings in these bodies, there's gonna be some wear & tear. I don't even want to think about what my belly will look like post baby. I'm twice as big as the lady in my baby class who is only due the week after me, then again, I'm measuring 2 weeks ahead, so technically I should be 3 weeks ahead of her! :)
  • You're lucky you just got one!! I suddenly had like 8 of them at the bottom of my belly... Totally out of the blue! There was no easing into it. The worst part was I hadn't even started getting that big yet so I really didn't understand it :-?
  • Even tho I've been greasing up religiously twice a day since I found out I was pregnant, I found my 1st (hopefully last [-O< ) stretch mark hiding on the underside of my belly. Only found it because I happen to look with a mirror. Oh well...just the price some of us have to pay for our little bundles of joy.
  • I have a lot of old ones on my stomach/all over from my first year in college (15... more like freshman 50). I don't have any new ones from this pregnancy yet... I don't even look close to getting more. I do have gallbladder scars on my stomach that have gotten darker though. Haven't stretched out, but turned dark brown
  • I have several on my right side only where she likes to be most of the time. The irritation  and stinging from my skin stretching bothers me more than the actual marks themselves. I know the redness will go away after which is good enough for me. Plus I already told my husband that I'm getting laser treatments for Mother's Day lol.

None yet at 34 weeks but if it makes you feel any better, I seem to be sprouting assne. (You know. Acne. On your butt. Didn't even know that was a thing) When I googled it, I found a wailing wall of women who said that once you get assne you're kind of stuck with it, pregnant or not. It's not a ton of little tiny dainty ones either. It's two huge monster zits that healed, then scarred. Then COME BACK in the exact same place.

So hey.. hopefully you can avoid assne! It's WAY more unsightly.

Edited because assne sounds a lot more satisfying than my previous word: buttne. Oh and also to add that I even had one bizarre bout of inner-earne. Yup. Giant zit. In my ear.
  • 35 weeks, no stretch marks. Though my growing belly has been very gradual. I have a travel size tummy butter but rarely remember to apply it and I'm not a huge fan because it feels waxy. I have eczema scars all over my body so I'm not too worried about it. My mom just tells me "you may not think much of them now but later you'll regret not doing anything about them"
  • Well, I don't think this topic has made me feel any better about myself, being part of the tiger stripe club. :(

    I'm so jealous!!!!!

My beautiful boobs are getting stripes. Dang it! And I haven't even had milk come in yet. I'm frankly terrified of how big I'm going to get lol! But girl, just like the Michael Jackson song: you are not alone, I am here with you....

  • I didnt get any until 34 weeks.... and bam.
Uggghhh i had some on my hips to start, they just got worse. Ive been religious with palmers oil and massage cream for stretch marks.... didnt help
  • I didn't read all the comments, so I'm sorry if I'm repeating....but I didn't get stretch marks last pregnancy UNTIL my milk came in! I got lots on my boobs from the rapid expansion, so don't neglect your boobs when applying your cream!
