Cancelled transfer

Just found out they cancelled my transfer for today. None of my 10 embryos were ready. I have 2 compact, 2 early blastocyst, and 6 cellular. Does anyone know what that means???

Also, anyone have success stories with 6 day FET? If anyone of the embryos continue to grow tonight, then we'd freeze all tomorrow and do our FET in mid December.

Any success stories or information in greatly appreciated!!

Hey @braz7911 - basically this is how expanded/developed the embryos are. In my head I was thinking you transfer at blast stage but there's also grading involved usually, so your embryologists would know best why your transfer didn't go ahead. Hopefully you can ask and get some answers. That really sucks though as I'm sure you were excited to do the transfer. Sorry you had a curveball thrown at you like that.

Most embryos that are allowed to develop to blastocyst reach their maximum potential by day 5 post-fertilization. Some take 6 days (and incidentally, there is no indication that these later developing blastocysts necessarily have poorer implantation potential).

No success stories to share as I've never been pregnant myself, but lots of ladies are very successful with frozen transfers. It could have been a timing/receptivity concern too... meaning your uterus was ready but the embryos weren't, so they want to do a separate cycle to sync them up... just a guess/thought to throw out there...

@braz7911 I had posted something similar last month with similar issues. My transfer got cancelled completely!! it was rough and they really didnt have any answers as to why it happened! it was really really tough and last minute my dh and I decided to do another cycle. Did they do icsi right away or let the sperm and egg meet naturally? they had no reason to believe the eggs would not be fertilized naturally so they did icsi late and they think that because the eggs were fertilized late thats why they didnt survive

@oxinfree your img isn't correct for the stages. Human embryo development happens in about half that time (hatching by day 6). I think that chart is for cow embryos.

@oxinfree - thank you so much for al the information you provided! I'm learning that day 6 freezing is pretty common and can still result in a healthy pregnancy and baby. You are right in that they were concerned about my body being ready for a blast but the embryos not being at that stage yet. My accupunturist (who specializes) in fertility said that sometimes they will even do a 7 day freeze. Not sure if they'll let that happen or not but I might push for it. Thank you again for your response and support. I will keep you posted!

@kindrex05 - thanks for your response and support, too. And so sorry for your cancelled transfer. It really is so hard to get so far and then with so little warning be cancelled. I believe they did isci right off the bat. I still have a chance that 4 of them might have pulled through over the last 24 hrs - I'll find out before noon today. When you had your transfer canceled did any make it? Were you given any update on how your embryos were doing since fertilization?

Vent - I'm mostly frustrated that they gave us no indication that this was a possibility. No communication at all about how they were doing each day and they basically said they wouldn't ever consider a 3 day transfer. I get that 5dts are better than 3dt but I just have to wonder if sometimes they need to look into doing them just to give us a chance. I guess what I'm saying is we have 0 chance of a bfp if we don't transfer any, but we could at least have a chance if they would just transfer maybe not the best one or maybe not at the best time. Sorry - end rant.

@HBamama2B - haha .. didn't even look at the dates it stated. I was just looking at the naming but you are absolutely 100% correct. A hatching blast is common at day5/6 so dates are totally asquew. It was one of few images that had the names of all the stages rather than just three or grading though. Oh well. Ignore!

@braz7911 Well I got the call Sunday that my transfer would be Tuesday and then on monday I waited and waited and did not get any information about what time to go in. I called the dr and out of my 6 embryos none of them were holding strong and he told me he would call me first thing Wednesday morning to give them an extra day and basically tell me to come in or not. He called me early wednesday and told me none made it. They were basically all deteriorating after day 3

Update! I have 4 frozen blastocysts!! Two are graded at 4AA, one graded at 4AB and one graded at 3BC. We are soooo humbled by this whole experience and cannot be happier!!! Bring on December for a FET!!!!! Thank you so much for all your prayers and positive thoughts and words!!!

@kindrex05 - wow... just wow. I'm so sorry. That must have been incredibly emotional for you. And painful. I'm so sorry you've had to go through that. To go through all that work and be told you have nothing is like a dagger, and I wish it weren't the case for you. Big hugs to you. Keep us posted on what the doc says at your follow up.
