1st Trimester

Is this normal?

Hi ladies, just a quick question: I am 5 weeks pregnant, and every now and again, I get very mild cramping. It is by no means severe or as bad as my period cramps usually are, but is a similar sensation. I've done a bit of research, and lots of people say it's implantation, but I should have implanted already by now. Is this normal? Any ideas? Thank you in advance!  :x

Re: Is this normal?

  • Totally normal. If you search for this on the boards hundreds of posts will pop up. Might give you some reassurance to read some past threads about cramping. As long as you are not bleeding, nothing to worry about.

^ Just in case anyone is wondering the same thing, haha! Thanks again for the tip, @yogahh !!
  • I am 6 wk 1 day. I still feel like that every once and a while. found out at 4 wk 4 days and hae been feeling slightly crampy on and off. I asked a mommy friend with an infant and she said she felt the same thing. so I think it is normal.
  • I don't know if it will make you feel better, but when I was newly pregnant I didn't just feel a little crampy, I felt a lot crampy. Currently 34 weeks pregnant and baby seems to be healthy and normal, so don't worry yourself too much :)
  • @Soverthis & @LaceyH13 Thank you both for your feedback! That definitely makes me feel better. I've also heard from my bestie that cramping is normal until there's lots of bleeding- then it becomes a problem. Thanks again, lovely ladies! :)
  • I am 13 weeks and still get cramps. It's part of everything growing and stretching. I also get them really bad if I haven't drank enough water or need to go to the bathroom.

  • @doozer1345 Thanks for that! The cramping has subsided quite a lot since I started this thread, but now when I get cramps every now and again, I know not to worry unless it's accompanied by bleeding (which it never has been). Thanks for your reply! That puts my mind at ease!  :x
  • My OB said as long as it's not doubling me over, accompanied with bright red bleeding, or severe pain on only one side, then it's normal to have some light cramping now and then. It's hard to not worry about everything in the first trimester though!

  • Your uterus has to grow too. Many of those cramps, tinges, and pulls is your body growing.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • Try increasing your water intake. It can be a sign of dehydration. I was feeling a lot of mild cramps too and increased my water to 80-100 oz a day and now don't have any cramps. May or may not be related but it's an easy fix!

  • Great advice, thank you! :) I will up my water intake and try not to worry about every little twinge... I'm a natural born worrier, so I need to try to rein it in! Thanks again! xxx
  • I'm 5 weeks 4 days and I've been getting lots of cramping! Wasn't sure myself if it was normal, some days are stronger than others but after reading this and other sites I don't seem as worried :) also have never had any bleeding with the cramps
