July 2016 Moms

When the time comes, do you want to know the sex of your baby?

Curious how many of you are finding out what you'll be having via blood tests or sonograms during your pregnancy, and who is waiting till delivery?

It's always been the tradition in my family that we don't find out ahead of time and it's a surprise at birth. As much anticipation as I'm going to have over the next 8 months or so wanting to know, I'll be keeping that tradition!

So many of my friends/people in my life have found out ahead of time, waiting seems to be almost unusual now, so I'm curious what all of your opinions/plans are!

  • I'll definitely be finding out as soon as possible.

  • We were team green with our DS and will be again this time. I wait was definitely worth it!
  • As soon as we can find out we will know. It's fun planning for a baby but I can imagine it's more fun planning for your baby's sex.

  • Yes, we will definitely be finding out! I like to have everything planned out whether it's boy or girl related

  • We are going to find out! My husband kind of wanted to wait until the birth, so we're going to bypass finding out the gender via blood test and will prolong our anticipation until the mid-way ultrasound. I want to know everything I can about this baby, and yes, we are going to decorate the nursery according to gender :)  I'm SO excited to find out!!
  • We will find out at our anatomy scan. I am a planner and need to know. I hate surprises. Haha I already have two kids but didn't plan on anymore and got rid of everything, so I'll need to shop and get some stuff.
  • Asked my hubster if he wanted to be surprised because I want to know asap, he wants to know too. So we both want to know.

  • We are definitely team green, discussed it at least a year ago. We actually decided upon a gender neutral name already too, before even stopping BC. We haven't told anyone yet, but we definitely won't be finding out anyway. We like purple & green and don't really hold true to many strict "gender" roles in clothing or bedding, so anything goes. We'll probably have to work hard to get our families to relax, but that's their problem.

  • We will be finding out at our anatomy scan just like with my other three. I think waiting would be so fun, but H and I do not have the patience.

  • I love surprises! We were team green the first time and will be again this time. After the pain and work of labour it was something to look forward to in the end and was such a great surprise!
Although I agree it would be nice to know the gender for clothes and nursery themes, I just have to wait!
  • Loving all these responses ladies ! Looks like "team green" is in the minority for sure (though I'd never heard that term before I like it!) looking forward to hearing everyone else's plans!!

  • I want to be team green but my husband wants to find out. I'd be ok with that except that I know he'd either slip up and accidentally tell me or I would cave and ask him and he'd tell me. I'm working on convincing him to wait.
  • We are very type A people and have no patience, so we'll find out. With DD did the Maternity21 test, so we knew the sex at 12 weeks. (I'm AMA) It really helped alleviate my anxiety and I could start to picture her as a real person, not just an abstract baby, if that makes sense.
  • We will definitely be finding out.  I've already been pinning girl nurseries just in case we have to change it :).

  • I'm very type-A & definitely want to find out. DH has always said he wants to wait until delivery to find out, but he seems to be getting more on board with finding out at an ultrasound (if baby cooperates, of course).

  • I want to know ASAP. We do not have a boy name so knowing if we need to figure that out or not is huge for me.
  • I'm on the fence. H wants to know but I think it would be fun to have a surprise :)

  • We found out last time and will agin... I can't wait! We will do genetic testing again, I deliver at 37, so we will know around 12-13 weeks!!

For me to know she was a she made it so REAL. We talked to her by name and read her stories each night from week 20 on. It was so special to picture her in our minds listening to our voices.

  • I'm pretty sure we'll find out. I LOVE the idea of waiting but DH already wants to know. I think I'll like knowing so that this will all seem more real. As I'm AMA I'm sure we'll find out early with a blood test of some sort. And who am I kidding, I love to plan!!

  • Team green all the way! Didn't find out for DD and not going to find out this time either. It's so much more exciting!
  • Surprise us! Team Green baby
  • We are going to be surprised too! It think it will be hard to wait in a way because nowa days it is sooo easy to find out! I can't wait to give birth and hear the doctor say 'it's a girl or boy!!' Plus it is our first and we hope to have more kids so I am hoping it will force me to be gender neutral when I buy the big items!

Also I work at a small rural hospital and I occasionally help deliver babies and I have seen parents expecting one gender and them guess wrong and the baby is the other! Whoops!
  • With DD we found out as soon as we could, with DS we waited until birth but the whole time I was pregnant with him I kind of just knew he was a boy. With this one we plan on finding out but having the ultrasound tech put it in an envelope so we won't even know, then we plan on doing a gender reveal party. We will give the envelope to someone we trust to make a cake or a piñata or something (we haven't decided yet) with the either pink or blue in it. I'm not super into gender stereotypes I just think that it will be a fun way to celebrate this baby, especially since it will be our last.

  • I'd like to be team green, but my husband wants to know. Since he supports most of whar I want in terms of birth, I can give him this.

Ideally, I'd wait until I looked down at the baby on my chest and saw for myself.

  • DH is adamant he wants to wait until the birth to find out the sex. I think it could be fun to find out at the anatomy scan, but I dont feel as strongly as DH. If I found out at the anatomy scan, there's NO way I'd be able to keep the secret from DH until birth. So, I agreed to wait until the birth to be surprised! Since I'm typically pretty Type-A, I'm just going to have to take it down to B+ for this :)
  • I have always said that it's one of the few times in your life you can be totally surprised, but someone said to me it's still a big surprise either way.

I think I have changed my tune & will find out!  I'm over 35 so I will get the genetic testing at about 10wks.

  • We're team green. We want to be surprised and prefer gender-neutral everything anyway. Although I solemnly swear not to be a smug pregnant person who says "We don't care if it's a boy or a girl as long as it's healthy" as if the two were mutually exclusive.

This is awesome and just made my morning!
  • I think we want to know the sex, but don't plan on sharing it with our family/friends. We want to keep everything clothing and decor gender neutral, but I think it'll help me to imagine it if I can name it, if that  makes sense.

  • We will be finding out at the 20 week scan. i have plans for either sex so the earlier we know the earlier we can get things ready. Plus i have a really hard time settling on a name. Last time i liked knowing so i could start calling DD by her name.
  • I can't wait to find out!  I don't think I could handle not knowing
  • Absolutely want to find out! I wish I could know right now :)

  • Both my DH and I would like to know because we are type A personality types and hate surprises haha. Honestly, I would probably go insane if I waited, props to those who want to wait!

  • Team green!! It's going to drive our families nuts that we won't find out. I may be secretly excited to drive them crazy.
