I know mine is just bloating and gas (1st timer here- 9w4d), but someone who knows I'm pregnant stopped me at work the other day and said "YOU HAVE A LITTLE BUMP!!" I'm 5'9", 135 and a runner, so my stomach was always flat. Now, it's very noticeably not flat. And I can't suck it in!

  • I've been eating like crazy, every time I start feeling nautious I need to eat. So I think that has been contributing to my belly growing. I'm also bloated and having trouble sucking in as well.
  • Welcome to the world of bloat. 'Round these parts we call it a "blump" as @Sgoldberg247 mentioned.
  • I thought bloat also but it's pretty firm :)
  • It's bloat. At 6w, your baby is the size of a pea, they aren't popping your belly out at all. Progesterone is released during pregnancy and causes the smooth muscles to relax, leading to the blump (bloat bump).

    ^^^^^ bingo :)
  • My husband and I call my bump bloatsville. Currently the pipulation is a small Apple seed that is not big enough to need so much room!
  • So's mine, but it's all bloat. Pooping, water and fiber does help! :D I'm resigned to the blump though, my mom had the same issue every pregnancy.
  • Mine is firm too, but that doesn't change the fact that your baby is the size of a pea. Your uterus doesn't leave the pelvis until around week 12 unless you've got multiples in there. Until then, its water, poop and gas.

So true! But I'll also add that "showing" is more about the size of your uterus than your baby. By six weeks, your uterus is the size of an apple! Not large enough to leave the pelvis area, but it can actually be felt by a doctor who is examining you.

I understand what ur trying to say, but your uterus is the size of a pear even when you're not pregnant. So while the uterus is a tiny bit bigger at 6 weeks, it's definitely not big enough to cause a baby bump. It's bloat. Also, the size of the uterus isn't what technically shows a bump, it's the position of the uterus... As the pregnancy progresses the uterus continually moves up and out, and that's when you start showing

Your doctor can always feel your uterus, it isn't only when you're pregnant. Like @tripledaggerWed95976 said, the uterus is the size of a pear normally so it isn't really bigger than normal, at least not noticeably to an untrained hand. The uterus is inside the pelvis until 12 weeks when it begins to move into the stomach. Before then, any bump you have is likely bloat related.
  • The uterus doesn't come above the pelvic bone until about 12 weeks. I'm 9w2d and I have the same firm bump. I was 115 lbs and a tight flat tummy and now if I wear a fitted shirt I get the looks. It's sensitive to the touch too. I think that the bloat makes it more noticeable when you started out so small so it may be a bump and a little later on like when you're closer to wear I am, you may start to feel "crowded" but it won't be the baby until a few weeks after the 12 week mark.
  • Ok, so I was a little confused, my book said that the non-pregnant uterus is the size of a plum, and that the 6 week uterus is the size of an apple. But after someone above said "pear," I did a Google search and saw several online references to the pre-pregnancy sized uterus being the size of a pear! So anyway, I called my hubby at work to ask, (not sure he appreciated that,) and he said that it's the shape of a pear, but not as large. But then he got out a reference guide from his office, and it said that the pre-pregnancy uterus is the size of a "small unripe pear" and 6 weeks it's the size of an small orange. So I have no idea what that really means. But I do think I might have to put more effort into dinner tonight to make up for bothering him.
  • I'm in the same boat, OP! I keep telling myself it has to be bloat, but I look how I did at 15 weeks pregnant with my first. Just a tiny, hard bump in my lower abdomen. My husband thinks I'm further along than I really am because of it.
  • I am pretty sure mine is all bloat, but we broke the news to close family because my boobs have already gone up a size and are now DD! No hiding those!
  • I am 6wk 2 days & not a bump in sight! My boobs have grown though so that's the only difference ! I actually just look more proportionate to my hips now lol. :)

    JEALOUS!!!!
I am also jealous of the boobs. Before getting pregnant mine were a small B. I'm 8w2d and so far I can still fit in all of my bras. The only thing different about them is they are a bit fuller and somewhat tender.

    Bring on the boobies  =D>
  • No bump yet!  I DO feel like everyone (like by bosses and SIL--people I haven't told) are staring at me trying to find one!!

Seriously! This was one of the symptoms I was most looking forward to and it has NOT happened. You'd think that with all the MS that bigger boobs would be our consolation.

Grow boobs grow! Before pregnancy I was considering sprinkling some miracle grow on my chest! Lol jk of course :)
  • Y'all can have mine! I've already went up to a DD (from full C or D depending on brand.). Not cool! I think they will be watermelons when my milk comes in. My poor back.

Ugh. Same. Mine are TOO much!!!
  • I'm sure it's still bloat at this point...BUT...my doc did say for second time mommas the uterus pops up from behind the pelvic bone a lot quicker, and is bigger quicker, so the fruit comparison might not be true for us.

  • I don't think there is any way my bump is bloat... It does not fluctuate in size from morning to night. I think they may have my due date off or there are twins. I will find out Thursday!

    Good luck!
  • You sound like you are very thin for your height so any change will be noticeable before most of us.

  • My belly is popped right out too, it is definitely bloat, but it's so big I look unmistakeable pregnant! Which is crazy because I'm only 8 weeks. This is my third pregnancy, and we are also wondering if it's multiples
  • I'm 9wks, and up until now I have definitely only had bloat. Larger in the evening, after I eat, etc.

Today, though, the belly situation appears to be coming on fast. Pretty much overnight. Like, I might need to change my shirt so people don't start wondering...
  • It's probably mostly bloat- but since this is your 3rd you could have a little bump.  Everyone I know during their 2nd or 3rd pregnancy say they start to show faster.  Plus with you being so petite could be showing a little more pronounced than for most of us.  Good luck.

  • I know the feeling! I am 6.5 weeks and know mine is bloat, but I look now like I did when I had my daughter.  I didn't show with her until the last month (I was super active and athletic then and though).  I have the bloat that starts about 2 in the afternoon and goes away by the next morning and starts all over.

  • I feel like I'm showing a little too (6+2) but I know it isn't the baby popping out yet!!! I know that bloat is contributing in a major way, but also, does anyone think about maybe your uterus kinda stretching out and getting bigger and maybe that is a reason too???? Does that happen this early?
  • I'm almost 10 weeks and I am starting to notice a slight change. I think it's mostly because this is my second and my organs may be moving up?? No idea tho ;) probably still blump. 13 weeks was when I had a true little bump first time.

Same here. I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and I feel like I popped out today. Hubby agrees. I think it's organs being displaced by my growing uterus. And the enchilada I had for lunch.
