Dog jumped on stomach

I'm a first timer and about 5w4d. Tonight I was at the in-laws and my BIL's crazy puppy made my FIL's 60+ lb Australian Shepherd go crazy and he jumped up on the couch and jumped on my stomach a couple times before I got him off.

I know baby has a lot of cushion in there but was just wondering if anyone has had this happen or known anyone this has happened to and if it ended up okay? If I start having any bleeding I'll definitely go to the ED but right now I'm just worried and hoping for some reassurance.

Re: Dog jumped on stomach

  • I didn't have a dog jump on me, but my almost 90 lbs niece decided to wrestle and jump on me with my first pregnancy (I was probably 9-10 weeks). I went on to have a perfectly normal pregnancy and a healthy baby girl. The baby is so small and our bodies are designed to cushion everything for them.

  • Im sure your okay. Lots of woman are in vehicle accidents early in pregnancy and the baby remains safe because its so small and down deep between the pelvic bones. I understand your anxiety but I think its safe for you to relax. There was actually a woman who went skydiving and something went wrong and she basically just plummeted to the ground. She didn't know she was pregnant until she was told in the hospital but she actually had a healthy baby despite the fall and major injury.
  • Thank you both so much. I just needed some reassurance because I got so scared! You both made me feel much better :)
  • This happened to me with my first pregnancy. My lab jumped on the bed and literally landed on my stomach. I called my doctors office to be sure. They saw me and made sure everything was ok with the baby. And everything was absolutely fine, they are pretty well insulated in there. But it's always ok to call your doctor. And If you call, you may get an early ultrasound too to check on the baby.
  • I don't think you need to worry. Your uterus is low behind your pubic bone still and baby is tiny and has a lot of cushioning around it. But I agree with the advice to check with your doctor just to ease your mind.

  • You fellow bumpies are life savers :)
  • Last pregnancy I learned it typically takes the amount of force to break a rib in order to seriously harm the baby
  • I fell on my own stomach at 10w last time around. I was still playing soccer and it was what told me to quit.

My kiddo is fabulous ;) I wouldn't worry!
