Has your SO or a friend suggested a name that you just CAN'T STAND?

My husband suggested the name Elway, but that's because he's obsessed with the Denver Broncos. Not happening.

My husband want's Kelly for a boy. I don't really like it, but I don't hate it either. We'll probably go with something else if it comes to it!

DH suggested Londyn, 'y' included. I vetoed that real quick. I suggested Cora and Gemma but DH was not a fan of either which is sad.

My husband wants to use the name Dayrold if we have a boy. It's his late uncles name and I get that. But I really hate it.

I'm not going to mention the name itself because it's rather rare, but DH is the 4th of his name. We've already decided to reject naming a potential son #5. If he changes his mind, I probably won't fight it but there are other names I would rather have.

Both of us have pretty unique names so the names we've chosen are very traditional which I love.

DH pretty much rejects every name I like. The ONLY name he even "sort of" liked was Juliet... I was like what!?

I LOVE the name Celia, but it's close to a family name for DH, so he vetoed it. DH loved Greyson for DS, but I vetoed because I assumed everyone would call him Grey and I didn't like Grey with our last name

My grandfather's name was Ignatius... how random is that? It sounds like an adjective. Apparently it's Irish. DH and I will be opting for a classic correctly spelled name.

ETA just looked up Ignatius. It's greek haha. But he was Irish.

So my husband is Russian and I love the name Olivia but there is a Russian cold salad that is pretty popular that is pronounced Oh-Leev-ya. So he always jokes that if we name our daughter that, he'll never know what I mean if I'm telling him the "Olevya" is in the fridge, if I mean the salad or our daughter! 8-|

We ended up having a boy and both loved the name Maxim. (He's 3 yo now) For the next one, we both love the name Declan for a boy and Emilia for a girl.

DH told me last week he found the perfect name for a girl, but the butthead won't tell me yet! He keeps saying that he needs to present it to me perfectly and write it on black paper in silver script so I don't immediately reject it.

My H wants a JR, but I'm not a fan of having two people in the house with the same name.

I liked Sebastian for a boy and he nixed that. But at least we've agreed on a girl's name!

DH suggested Garret for a boy and his mother's name, which is Dutch and neither of us can spell or pronounce for a girl. Both got a veto from me.

He vetoed almost all of my girl names - Isla, Hadley, Adeline

DH loves Alexandra for a girl. I realize it's a relatively normal name, but I had a Cabbage Patch doll named Alexandra. It just strikes me as an 80s name.

DS was going to be Isla if he were a girl. We went to Cozumel when I was pregnant and I kept seeing street signs that said "Isla de Cozumel" and I thought it was a sign, but I guess I was wrong!

He likes Liam. It was going to be his name, but his Dad vetoed. His mom really likes it, and it's a family name from way back.

I don't like it for a couple reasons. It's very trendy right now, and I have the remains of a southern accent from growing up in TX. I hate the way it sounds when I say it. "Lee- Ham" *shudder* It's supposed to be "Li-ehm" I know this... my tongue just won't cooperate.

From when I was 15 (15 years ago lol) I loved the name Olivia for a girl and I guess everyone my age did to. Now that it is so popular I couldn't do it. Right after we got married FIL had a TBI and was pretty rocky for about three years and H said if his dad died before we had kids he wanted to name a son after his dad. I don't hate his dad but never thought he was that awesome of a person and wouldn't want my son to be named after him. FIL is in pretty stable ok-ish health for the last few years so I don't think that is a worry anymore. I have several other names I love but know people pretty well with those names. I liked Phillip, Anne, Chelsea, Miriam, and a few more.

DH keeps suggesting Doug and Greg for boys which get a big fat veto from me. I wanted Luke, and he said he would do Lucas, but I refuse. We don't have any good boy names at the moment.

@SchmancyNancy I've had Amelia/Emelia picked out for a girl for years! I love that name!

Last night when we talked about names, after vetoing every single name on my boy list, DH said, "You know what name I really love for a boy? Baron." Did not feel bad using the veto right back at him.

ETA: The names he rejected immediately were Cameron, Owen, Nathan, Ethan, Isaac, Micah, Noah, Levi, and Caleb. The only one he said he might consider but probably not was Evan.

The girl names he rejected were Rhea, Nora, Sadie, Maya, Kendra, Elsie, Tessa, and Erin. He "kind of" liked Paige, and the name he absolutely loves is Ava, which was also on my list. But it's extremely popular, I have to decide if I care about that or not.

Oh, not sure if this goes in the rejected list but I love a lot of Indian and French names and I feel that since we are super white and not even French I cannot name a child a name from another culture.

@sboston06 that is so lucky that you guys can agree! We haven't really agreed on any names (not that we've had any super serious discussions about it yet, as most of my suggestions are generally semi-joking). We also have extremely different taste in pretty much everything aesthetic, so I'm not really surprised. DH is sooooo traditional, and I'm slightly more trendy/modern than he is. I tell him he has old man sensibilities/taste all the time!

My DH wanted to use his mom's first name (she goes my her middle name). I really didn't like her first name, but was trying to figure out to tell him nicely.

Then his brother use the name. Problem solved :-)

I think we both agree on some combination of Owen, Connor, or Elliot for a boy. Most likely Owen Connor, or Connor Elliot.

For a girl, we're agreed on Ellen Claire. Ellie while she is little, but Ellen is a name she could grow into.

That's my dads name!! I've never met another Igantius. It's tradition in Italian families to name your first son after your father, but thank the lord my sister had 2 boys. She couldnt bring herself to name her first Ignatius so she used it for his middle name. Which means I'm off the hook!!! I always though Ignatius was a very Sicilian name... Guess I was wrong!

@jhems776 I'm French Canadian and DH is American and I'm really afraid to use a French name that's gonna get destroyed here. My name is really uncommon and it's a disaster when people read it here!

DH is a teacher so most of the names I've mentioned he's vetoed because he had one that was a hellion.

When my brother and SIL were trying to come up with names for their DD, they kept picking names that were on my list but DH vetoed them all anyway so I was able to support their decision haha.

We can't even talk baby names because DH and I have fundamental disagreements about the basics of naming a child. His parents basically completely made up his name and his sibs' names. My parents picked some of the most common names at the time so that we wouldn't be teased. He thinks weird names are awesome so that "No one ever calls you 'Fat Joe' or 'Little Mike.'" When it comes to naming a child I'm sure that I'll win the argument in the end, but there will definitely be quite the debate. I will veto anything that others won't recognize as a name, or anything that's spelled strangely.

Haha this is exactly my argument against Tatiana, which DH loves. Except neither one of us is Russian. I just can't do it.

Honestly, I have no idea how we managed to name our son. We both just sort of stumbled upon it and bam..he was named. And it's an awesome name BTW.

This leads me to believe it will be even harder this go 'round. When I hear a name I like, I'll just throw it at him and I've been doing this for years. Not once has he said, I like that one.

Tatyana is my SIL's name! She goes by Tanya or Ta for short! My husbands family is in fact Russian though

For what it's worth, I have an acquaintance named Sparkle. It's her real name, and no one ever forgets meeting her. While people do say "that's a stripper name!" behind her back, it is certainly memorable.

DH really likes Zachary. I work with kids and have strong memories of a boy named Zachary and can't imagine ever naming my own child that because I would never want my mind to associate the two. (Otherwise I think that Zachary is a fine name, I just couldn't do it). I think he also really wants to name a boy after his grandfather, who is named Harold, and keeps trying to convince me that "Harry" is cute. I simply don't like the name and keep trying to suggest Henry instead.

I like Danielle or Daniel after my grandfather and he's not on board.

We do have a few names that we both agree on though.

DH hasn't really suggested any names, except one: His grandmother's name as our daughter's middle name because I want to name her after my maternal grandmother whom I never met.

As for names I don't like: no offense to anyone, myself included, but I don't like names that end in an "uh" sound. Like Felicia or Sabrina. There are so many that match that description though...

I've always loved the name Naomi for a girl, but DH hates it. He says it sounds like a stripper name.

I mean...okay.

On the other hand, if we ever have 3 boys, we already have all of their first AND middle names picked out. I don't know why we can never agree on girl names.

DH loves Hemingway, at least as a middle name. And I have vetoed every time he has mentioned it. Cool name, I guess, but a little too far out of my comfort zone.

DF got to name our daughter.. it was a name he always liked and I was on board and she has my middle name which was also his mom's middle name so that worked out easy.

For a boy he wants a Jr. Which I was fine with as long as we can call him his middle name, Manuel or Manny which would DF's dad's first name. His mom and dad passed away when he was young so I like our kids being able to have a part of their grand parents they couldn't meet.

For another girl I like Delilah Grace or Vivienne Rose. He likes Delilah so that is one last thing to worry about ☺
