Well gals, it hasn't gotten easier. At 16 weeks I finally can stomach salads without vomiting ... But I all of a sudden hit 16 lbs. It seems common the first trimester sickness eliminates any chance of eating healthy or working out. Finally out of the woods, but so tired! Need to get myself to the gym ! I feel an increased appetite like im always hungry

Don't feel bad... I went to the doc and was up TWENTY POUNDS. At 16 weeks. But I have been exercising and eating healthier just since this weekend and I already feel SO much better. I might end up gaining a little more than the 30 lbs that I had hoped, but it feels so good to be back to healthy habits. And I will say that the more I work out (not overdoing it of course), the easier it gets and the better it feels!

I'm 14w2d today, and have gained 4 lbs. However, my dr only wants me to gain 10 lbs my entire pregnancy! I have no idea if that's even possible!! I will admit that I could've been thinner pre-pregnancy, but I'm still in a size 8 (maternity of course),and 5'5". I don't look at myself and think that I'm huge! Do any of you have experience dealing with a weight obsessed dr?
@shellyschuster if you are truly a size 8/normal BMI, I would seek a second opinion.

I actually lost weight during the first tri so I was concerned because I'm not a very active person and I lost weight. Understandable for someone with morning sickness but I had zero. OB said it was normal
I'm trying to be crazy careful with weight gain as I am overweight. I'm 179 cm which is probably around 5'10 and I weigh around 260 lbs, so with a BMI that high I am trying to keep my total weight gain under 15 pounds. I've gained 4 pound so far, which is great. Hopefully I can keep it at this rate for the remainder of the pregnancy
@shellyschuster- that seems odd that a doctor would tell you to only gain 10 lbs. Everything I've read says you need to gain 25-35 lbs if you are at a healthy weight pre-pregnancy. Like PP said, I would get a second opinion.
I think it's weird when anyone says you're "suppose to gain X amount of pounds" during pregnancy. I am a little under weight pre-pregnancy and always lose 3-4 pounds during first tri. Last pregnancy, I didn't start gaining at all until 20 weeks. I'm 17 weeks now and still down 2 pounds. My doctor wasn't/isn't concerned. In the end, I gained a total of 18 pounds and had a 7.5 pound baby.
Who is to say what is "healthy" or "normal" weight gain? I just think that if you eat the way you normally would, it'll all work itself out.
@jordanbara I totally agree, with the exception of very overweight/obese women whose Drs probably need them to keep minimal weight gain for health reasons. I carried tiny and gained 20 lb despite not exercising at all (unless you count walking to try to induce labor), and I had a friend who gained 60 lb and was healthy throughout. All our bodies are so different.
(Although I do agree that generally speaking if you're gaining more than 50 lb you're probably eating more than you realize)

This. I'm about your same height and heavier starting out and my doctor recommended 15-20# total weight gain. 10# seems very low based on your stats.
Ugh! @jonesl12, I'm totally with you! I'm nearly at 18 weeks, and thank god my weight gain seems to have plateaued for a bit, as I'm up about 10lbs at the end of my first tri. I was tall and thin to start (5'9", 119), but it still feels crummy when your old clothes won't even clear your thighs... Between the weight gain, bloating, acne and new found itching I'm pretty sure all this talk of "pregnancy glow" is totally bogus.

Hah my sister mentioned my "pregnancy glow" the other day, i told her im pretty sure she was just seeing the shine from moisturizing and not putting on any makeup to cover my acne because i was feeling lazy. And the bloating sure doesnt make me feel pretty.

I'm convinced pregnancy glow is a joke. Pregnancy mask? Yes, it's full force over here; I'm considering wearing a tinted moisturizer to work, and that's saying a lot because I take more time pulling my hair back than I do trying to make myself pretty for work.
I wouldn't worry about it. I gained 10lbs by 12w and at my 16w this week I gained 8 more pounds. (so 18lbs total) I usually choose healthy options and clean houses for a living- so very active.
With DD I gained 50 and had her 2 1/2 weeks early. I lost an extra 20lbs after she was born and my doctor was never concerned about my weight gain. Try and get exercise where you can and don't stress. All women gain differently during pregnancy.

I totally had a pregnancy glow with DD. my skin looked amazing, my hair was shiny but not oily. Basically I never needed makeup or to do anything to feel like I looked pretty good. This time around I'm breaking out like a teenager and I generally feel like a troll. I'm like come on pregnancy glow, you can show up now before I start scaring small children
I am still losing weight at almost 18w but I'm not too concerned yet. It came up at my appointment on Monday but more in a noted way. I'm still struggling with vomiting and no appetite. I haven't added calories or felt the need to yet. I just want to drink all the water.
I don't remember when I started gaining last time, probably about now maybe a little sooner. I still gained 23 pounds so I am not worried about it.
That's me too...I've gained 10 lbs in this first trimester, but I'm already starting to feel squeezed on the inside and get full faster. Pretty sure this is what happened with my two previous kiddos, and I wound up only gaining 20 lbs total and being put on an ice-cream-everyday plan at the end with both of them. So y'all just hang in there and try to stay alive and keep baby alive
So far I'm at 8lbs. But my doc is concerned that I'm not gaining enough. Everybody is different. So I wouldn't look too much in a number but rather if your doc thinks you're on track.
Last pg I gained 12 in first tri, this pg I gained 6. I gained 70 total with DS so I'm trying to just be more active and not indulge my cravings to the same extent. Even with the 70 lbs from last time, my doctor wasn't concerned until the last month or so when my swelling got to be terrible and my BP was verging on pre-e. I'd like to try and cap it at 50 this time, but we'll see!
I had my first appt at about 12 weeks, and hadn't been on a scale since June so my prepregnancy weight is approximate, but I lost somewhere around 5 pounds in the first trimester and am now up 1 (so 6 pounds in 2nd tri) at 19 weeks. That said, I had a 6 pound baby, so I know many people that had another 3-4 pounds just in baby to gain. So far it's about the same as with DD where I gained 24.8 - the nurse and I laughed for the last 3 weeks that I just couldn't seem to get that last .2 pounds to hit the recommended 25-35 range
