Transition to Flat Surface

Our LO sleeps in her rock and play at night next to our bed. We put her in Pack N Play sometimes for naps but she usually wakes up soon after. I admit that now that she's sleeping longer at night, when she's out I put her back in RNP for night because I want to sleep too.

Anyone have any tips for transitioning from RNP to flat surface? My husband is concerned she's gotten too used to it which will make transition to crib difficult. I'm just trying to take it one day at a time! Thanks!

Re: Transition to Flat Surface

  • My LO also sleeps in a rock n play. Im anxious about future sleeping but we will cross that bridge later. She slept for 6 hours ( I fed her) and then she slept for 4 more hours! I was thinking about borrowing a vibrating bassinet from a friend... Because right now, she naps in her bouncy seat, on walks or in My arms (like right now). I do want to start her napping flat, but I'm not easy to lose the RNP at night... She's only 6 weeks old.

  • We just switched from the RNP to his pack n play at night. He slept the same as in his RNP. I just made sure he was swaddled and then put him up towards the corner so it didn't feel too big. Good luck!!

I would try inclining your choice of flat surface (ie pack n play or crib)...try rolling up a towel under the mattress or buy an incline wedge. While your in transiton, do this for a monitored nap time with rolled blankets on either side of baby. That way she wont roll.

My LO started moving too much and would wake himself and back sleeping was causing spit up.
After you have mastered the transition to a hard surface, dont forget it's ok to do tummy sleeping. Baby will get great rest while developing back and neck muscles that become crucial for when she starts to roll and needs the strength to move her head while sleeping. Hope this helps!
