Upper belly pain?

Hi, ftm @ 36 weeks, having upper belly pain especially under my ribs all day. I've been uncomfortable no matter if I lay down, sit up or stand up. My upper belly is pretty hard but very painful to the touch. Sometimes it's her because I can feel her butt or feet in my ribs. But most of the time she's down lower. It's not heartburn or anything because I'm taking zantac for that. I'm not really sure what this is? Could it be just really bad braxton hicks? Or maybe actual contractions?

Re: Upper belly pain?

  • I would think it's her foot or her cramping your organs/ribs. You could always stop into L&D and they can check for contractions, though!

  • I would definitely call the Dr or L&D to make sure. I had an appt Tuesday and mentioned lower belly pain. They told me if it were upper belly pain, it would be something they might be concerned about. Won't hurt to check!
  • I get really bad upper belly pain. I've had it checked out by several doctors and they actually say it is a low acid problem, not a high acid problem (medical term is gastritis). How long have you been taking Zantac? That could actually be causing the problem. I find the best solution for me is drinking diluted apple cider vinegar to balance the acid levels (1-2 tablespoons acv to 1 cup water adding some honey for taste). Also, probiotic yogurt to help the healthy bacteria in your system. Hopefully that helps!
  • ?? My contractions have been menstrual cramps, low--or at least tightening below the belly button. Definitely not above... Why would upper belly pain be contractions? As in above-the-belly-button pain? Anyway, I would get those horribly before I started eating yogurt, too, actually. Maalox was my lifesaver until then. I like the apple cider vinegar suggestion, too. :D I'm now taking Zantac as well but it didn't seem to have affected the acid stomachaches... Maalox is the only thing that touches those. (I didn't know if it was too much or too little acid, but either sounds plausible.)

Just because you experience contractions as menstrual cramp pain, doesn't mean that's how everyone experiences them. I think the point of the previous posters is that they don't know what this pain is, and that OP should talk to a medical professional.
