@mellymar you seem to always get things back on track. I'm sure LO will be gaining weight in no time. I also have a petite baby, and I am perfectly fine with that. She hits all her milestones, and the dr is always happy with her size and development. So I'm not worried, but I know you had weight concerns when he was first born. Good luck!
Thanks @cait7425! It just feels like a constant struggle since he is at the 4rth percentile for weight, and he keeps falling off his curve (being at the 4rth percentile means there isn't much room for him to fall more) and we keep having to do something to get him back on his curve. Its just something to always be thinking about. Eat more, baby. Eat more.
@mellymar don't worry you got this! DD was in the 10th percentile for weight and the 90th for height until somewhere until 6-9 months. LO is now in the 10th percentile for weight also. I know it's hard because they're not where they "should" be but as long as you're not letting him go hungry (which I know you're not) then you're doing everything you can. Keep up the good work and hope Master P keeps gaining!
Birth LO was 7lbs 6 oz 21 in Today a little over 4 months he was 15 and 10 oz and 25 in BF But worth the mention his head is still in the 99% I thought he had grown into it but nope
@mellymar is your lo head circumference growing? I was told by several of our specialists that as long as she was growing in head circumference and length try not to worry so much. The last thing they use their food for is to gain weight. We are on a different growth chart but I do have the lightest of the babies and my peditrician wasn't overly concerned.
@rklinge0 head and length are growing. That's reassuring, thank you. And she isn't *really* concerned, but she does want us to try to fit in a few more ounces a day. She says his growth is looking more like a bf fed baby (slow to start) than a formula fed baby. And even tho I do both, both myself and the ped know that his diet is mostly formula. Since he does take mostly formula, she would *expect* his weight to not keep ducking below his curve and then needing to have corrections to his feeding to get it back on his curve.
But I am super reassured by what you said about head and length. Thank you
DS1 wasn't even on the charts for awhile and I was so stressed about it, but he eventually made up for it. Charts shmarts.
Exactly how I feel about the charts! I think a lot of times and it sounds like from a lot of you too, the charts just cause more anxiety than anything.. Ours finally made it to 4 months and just had her appt today:
Birth 8lbs 0oz, 21" long
4 months 19lbs 10 oz, 26.75" long
Adalyn has been in the 95th-97th percentile since her 1 month appt, and because I formula feed, the doctors have all been so worried bc of where she is on the charts, but i think she's just a big baby. I was the same way as a baby, I was huge even though my mom ebf for the first 3 months. I know they offer a good comparison and obviously point out possible issues, but sometimes a baby is just either big or small, and I kinda wish they'd ease up with the chart anxiety...
I have a small baby as well. I'd be totally lying if I said I wasn't constantly thinking about it. When people comment how "tiny" he is, I have to hold back my emotions. I know there's no hurtful intent but as a mother, it pings me right in the heart. He's healthy and I know that's all that really matters.
Reading this thread as really makes me think that he's really not as tiny as I've been told.
Birth: 6.1, 19" (dropped to 5.7 due to jaundice and latching issues) 2 mo: 9.2, 21" 4 mo (+11 days): 12.4, 24"
This has put him on the <1% for weight and 1% for length at his 2 mo and 1% for weight and 4% for length at 4 mo. Pedi said he looked great and was happy to see him "trending up" even if just barely.
Looking at all your stats I can't imagine how he is so low on the charts though. I know he's small but there are comparable babies here. Head has moved from 10% at 2mo to 35% at 4mo. All babies are different and that's what I'm learning. Celebrating every day instead of constantly worrying is my daily goal. And like my mom tells me... "Honey, when you were a baby, there weren't any charts... enjoy your baby!"
What my pedi says for % doesn't match the CDC or WHO. When questioned he said it doesn't really matter as long as they are following their curve. So I'm just going with if the doc is happy, I'm happy

Aw, love your mom's point. So true! Thanks for posting that.
LO growth has definitely slowed a little but im not complaining. hes 3 days away from offical 4 months but he had his vaccines today and they measure his growth while there.
Currently only breastmilk, but we'll be introducing oatmeal with a probiotic soon (mostly for him to play with). Ped is worried about weight gain since he already a skinny kid and going to be mobile soon. He seems happy. He's definitely not starved, so I'm going to keep trucking and see what happens at 6 months.
Alright, I can finally post! LO is 24.75 inches and 13 lbs 6.5 oz. Her weight dipped to the 19th percent and height went to the 49th. Docs not concerned since she is becoming very active. Ebf and pedi told me to wait til 6 months to start giving solids because she's doing so well on breastmilk. My little nugget.
