That's because everyone nitpicks every post I make instead of focusing on the topic.
I don't see legititmatly being confused over your comments as "nitpicking". You put information out there that is very hard to understand and follow but call questioning what you said nitpicking. It just doesn't make sense and is confusing.
ETA- You went off topic in your comment so yes, people will ask questions.
Yep. There was a lot of information about a LOT of different births. I was lost too.

When I responded, it was length of labors. Very short answer to OPs question. No extra detail. Everyone else asked questions and derailed it.
They asked questions because you went into a whole "oops I forgot a baby" "baby #0". I think most people are not understanding and are confused by your comments. I would say that you've pretty much "derailed" this whole thread. %-(

For me personally, my questioning is because I've never heard of someone to have so many quick births. I know it happens, but holy scary! And I guess because I'm FTM I dont understand what order everything happens in and is it always the same for everybody? Needless to say, I'm glad I signed up for birthing classes!

Every woman, pregnancy and labor/birth is going to be different. Generally speaking, your 1st birth tends to be on the longer side. Lol my pregnancies some how have lasted longer with each one but the births/labors have very much shortened in timeframe. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great!

Am I the only one not confused by this? Maybe it's because I came in late and all of the clarifying posts had been made already.
My water has broken at home with both of mine. The first time labor really didn't start for quite some time after the water broke, and baby was born about 28 hours later. Luckily I was with midwives at a baby-friendly hospital, so they didn't rush me to get baby out.
But with both of mine after the initial POP and gush of fluid I didn't really notice any more fluid coming out.
Kitteh81 - that's awesome that they didn't force pitocin on you. I'm excited to be with midwives this time around. Mine said that doctors treat labor as a threat to the mother while midwives treat it as something natural. That really hit home when I thought of my previous labors.
Ummmm... my OB doesn't take that approach nor do others in his practice. That is a bold and unfair generalization made by your midwife. Is this the same midwife who freaked you the f out about labor in the other thread you started here? I'm starting to wonder about your midwife...

I was just about to say the same thing! My OB is wonderful and doesn't take that approach at all. Also, I'm just honestly starting to wonder about the poster in general.

From what I have heard from friends in the military, or spouses of military, the OBs at military hospitals tend to be more pushy and almost mistrustful of birth. I'm sure that doesn't apply to every single military hospital everywhere, but it's the impression I've gotten from friends who have experienced birthing on base.
@elyse1384 - Hmmm it was actually. She's the one who does the two hour tour. I didn't like her at all. I refuse to see her. I think if she were there when I went into labor I'd be so tense I'd need drugs. One thing I do know is that relaxation is key. Not with her!!
I love my midwife though. She's fantastic.
For not liking her, quoting her like that makes it sound like you value her opinion, I wouldn't be quoting something like that from a midwife I refuse to see. Just sayin'

I honestly think it's very dependant on the OB not exactly the hospital. I've had quite a few military friends and (just like anywhere, military or not) have gotten good and not so good stories. That goes into the whole midwife or OB debate though, good and bad stories with both.

Oh fuck. Now I remember who this poster is. I don't trust half the things being said because shit isn't lining up.
This thread is all over the place but in general, you can be dilated and not be admitted unless you are having consistent contractions or your water broke. Being effaced really means nothing, a lot of women decline those checks because it doesn't have much bearing on when you will actually go into labor. Each women and each labor are different, try not to stress about it. Most people don't have 30 minute labors, especially not with their first.
Midwives/OBs - it depends on the person, you can't make a general statement about midwives being better than OBs. I met with several midwives with my first and I didn't like a single one of them but that doesn't mean all midwives are awful. I love my NP and OB and they have always been nothing but comforting and supportive throughout my pregnancies. I have a great relationship with them and it is wrong to say that a midwife would somehow be better. You can't make blanket statements about either of them.
As far as going 20 hours after your water breaks, please don't do that. It is very likely you could get an infection. With my first I had to be induced and eventually they broke my water. After 20 hours of labor I had started to get an infection and DD was in distress. That is why they recommend you go in within a few hours if it breaks. Look at the information you are given by your doctor/midwife/hospital/whatever and go by those general recommendations. If you are unsure, call and check.

My military hospital is fantastic. They have an extremely low C Section rate and are more pushy about breastfeeding and natural birth. Every place is different. I think it depends on your OB/Midwife, just like the civilian world.
Also, thanks for the QFP's!! Wth is going on in this thread.
