Re: How are you storing your baby clothes??

  • sorry couldn't turn pic around.. this is what I have now...

  • I bought a dresser from a yard sale for 25$ cleaned it sanded it, and we painted it. I'm using the top as a changing table and then have some of her clothes in the drawers like the ones she will wear everyday and after a bath then I have her nice "going out" clothes in the closet on hangers
  • We have newborn sized stuff in the dresser (rolled and separated by type). We then have 0-3mos stuff hanging in the closet. Anything bigger than that is just in plastic storage bins that you can buy in any Target, Fred Meyer, Walmart, etc, and they are on the top shelves in our closet so we can trade out clothes as necessary. We'll move things from the bins to hanging and then from hanging to the dresser as sizes become needed.
  • I plan to have whatever she is wearing in the dresser and bigger sizes in the closet. The closet is odd and has like a slope from the stairs in it so I can't put anything on the floor of the closet, bummer.
  • I don't see what's wrong with storing them in those boxes.
We are very fortunate to have a large closer that we could put a second rod into. All their clothes are on hangers and divided buy sizes. Newborn pants, socks, odds and ends are in the dresser. As for sleepers and bigger pants, we have them in 31 canvas boxes on the shelf in the closet, folded and ready to pull down when needed.

We have all of her newborn clothes in her dresser and then all of her 3 month+ clothes are hanging up in the closet. I love your boxes though, very pretty!

  • Mine were in boxes up until I found a cheap dresser, then I organised them
  • Mine are organized by size in a dresser! I don't have that much yet. Shower next weekend and more shopping once baby gets here (team green)
  • We don't have a ton of clothes, so ours are actually stores by size and type in similar like baskets/boxes on a bookshelf. We are waiting on a dresser until we find a decent deal or one I don't hate a garage sale, so that could be a while.
  • I'm storing newborn onesies, sleepers, socks & pants/leggings in the changing table, hanging newborn & 0-3 outfits/dresses in the closet. Anything 6 month & over is in a plastic storage bin. I like having the start of an outfit where I change diapers for convenience.
  • We are storing them in a dresser by size. Dresser is perfect height for changing table as well. Why do they have to be stored in an airtight container?
  • Ladies, have you washed all the clothes (in non-bio) before storing them in these great ways or are you storing them as "shop new"? Some baby care providers suggest washing before first wear, others not, so your advice would be appreciated.
  • @Merroneymaria yes I did- new & second-hand
  • @blended10 thank you! Right, better get that washing machine going...
  • We put nb and 0-3 clothes in the dresser, and have the rest in storage containers under the crib. They are plastic with lids, and work great! And I did wash the clothes prior to storage. The vast majority of them are from Carter's, so if they don't fit right, we're SOL.

  • Baby will be in our room so we have some things in our closest amd will put the rest in the changing table drawers. I'll probably only have about 14 days worth of clothes of any given size so we don't need a ton of storage.
  • We have NB and 0-3mos in the dresser. Anything bigger is stored in ziploc vacuum bags that I got at Costco sorted by size. I began using under bed storage boxes from Walmart, but they filled up too fast.

  • I hang clothes in the closet that are current sizing and store larger sizes in storage bins. I got one of those shelf units with fabric drawers. That's what I did with DDs clothes when she was newborn. I hang current clothes so I can easily see what she has. When it's in a drawer, I forget about it and it's not as easy to see everything.

Now that she's older (2 years), I still hang shirts and pajamas, and pants and shorts and skirts go in the dresser.

  • Newborn-3mo on one rack and 6 mo on another in the closet. All pants/leggings and onsies are folded on a shelf in the closet. Anything else is separated by size and type in her dresser. That's what works best for me so I would just consider what would be easiest for you to do.

  • We have tons of clothes from the baby shower. Our shower was in July so people bought all sizes. We separated them according to size and washed them all. We even washed all the sheets, towels, washcloths and blankets. Everything is in those ziplock storage bags according to size. We weren't worried about returning things since we live out of the country and wouldn't be able to exchange later. Feels good to know DD has clean clothes for months and months, especially since we don't have a drier!!

Airtight container won't let the clothes breathe is the thought I had on that. Not sure that they need to, but that was my instinctual thought.

  • @TomekiaB oh no, I've only just seen your reply... I've been busy doing laundry. That makes perfect sense too, I don't know why I didn't consider that. Well I've only done one load so I will hold off - thank you for that practical advice
  • Except for current sizes, I bought gray same-size Rubbermaid totes - so we can store them in the back storage room that's not heated.

Anything without tags is washed already. I figure they can be washed again if they don't stay fresh smelling, but the totes will keep out any pests and moisture and are very sturdy to stack.
  • I have kind of a dumb question, how long do we keep washing the baby's clothes in gentle detergent or dreft? Is there a specific age that it's safe to use normal detergent?
  • I've always used All Free and Clear.

Dreft is a rip-off, just use a sensitive or unscented detergent of your choice. Or use regular if you don't think your baby will be sensitive to it. Baby detergent isn't any better than regular detergent.
