Boppy pillow (seriously...bringing it to the hospital was the best decision I made, it's great)

Lanolin/gel soothies (for if you're breastfeeding)

Muslin swaddle blankets (LO never needed to be seriously swaddled, and liked her arms out, these were great)

Breastpump (again only if you're breastfeeding...but when my milk came in it CAME IN and I needed to occasionally pump to relieve pressure)

Bassinet for the first 2-3 months

Leacho pillow (LO loves this thing, always has, napped in it as an infant)

    Crib mobile

Nose Frieda and humidifier (for cold season...ugh)

    White noise machine

    Playmat

Carrier (I have the Lillebaby model)

    Stroller

Waterproof changing pad liners (if I had to change the cover every time she peed or barfed on it, I'd be dong laundry twice a day)

    Infant bathtub

    Baby monitor

    Bouncy seat and/or swing

    Burp cloths and bibs

ETA: sorry I didn't see the 10 in the title and got carried away...haha

  • Aden + anais muslin. There's a difference!
  • 1. Baby K'Tan sling: keeps LO quiet while grocery shopping and I do most housework with him in it.
    2. Breast pump: helped with getting started and helping with weaning now.
    3. Mylicon gas drops: life would have been miserable for all 3 of us with his gas issue.
    4. Dr browns bottles: see above
    5. Baby swing: because I can't keep him in the sling all the time
    6. Rock n Play: LO gets his best sleep in it and won't lay flat in crib just yet
    7. Stroller: nothing better for a fussing baby than some fresh air and a bumpy ride
    8. Changing table: love the way it keeps me so organized.
    9. Sound machine: puts baby to sleep and it's so relaxing I feel like I'm back in the womb too.
    10. Glider and boppy pillow: some of my favorite memories of motherhood will be of time spent rocking, nursing and reading books to my son sitting in the glider with him snuggling next to me with that pillow.
  • 1. Boppy pillow- its been a lifesaver after my c section.

2.) Sleep sacks- my house is chilly and I bought a few fleece aleep sacks with sleves from JC Pennys and LO loves how soft they are.

3.) Breast pump-im EBF but have a freezer stash already for long outings or future mommy breaks.

4.) Cloth diapers-we use them as burp rags. My let down is extremely powerful and I spray everywhere. Regular "burp rGs" are to thin.

5.) Swing- LO loves her swing. I can o ut her in it and get so much done around the house.

6.) Baby lotion/oil- its part of our night time rountine and the massage helps calm down LO in her fussy period.

7.) Baby wipes- I use them on literally everything. Literally. My car, the tv, the dog. Everything.

8.) Baby sleepers with zippers- I found out the hard way that sleepers with a million buttons arent so great on the middle of the night. Especially when you have two broken fingers, youre contacts havent settled and you have a hysterical baby.

9.) Recieving blankets- LO doesnt like to be swaddled anymore, but I use them as a changing pad, car seat cover, nursing cover, a light blanket at night that I know wont hurt her.

10.) Piano kick board/play mat- my m ok m got LO one of those play mats that have they piano kivk board and baby loves it! She can spend an hour just playing "music"
  • 1) Rock n Play. LO slept so much better in that thing for the first few months

    2) Swaddles. So many Swaddles. With Velcro.

    3) Breast Pump. It's like my best friend...Especially being back at work.

    4) Piano play mat. This was the first thing we could put LO down on where he wouldn't scream instantly with not being held.

    5) Sound machine. Technically I use an app on my extra old phone, but it's been priceless with the stomping upstairs neighbors.

    6) Nightlight, so I'm not nursing in the pitch black of LO's room when he wakes up.

    7) Ergo or similar wrap/carrier. It makes trips to the store SO much easier than trying to maneuver a stroller or putting his car seat in a grocery cart (which you're really not supposed to do anyway). It also helped to soothe LO when nothing else would.

    8) Backseat car mirror. I wouldn't say it's an absolute necessity but it has made car trips a lot less nerve wracking now that I'm able to see what LO is doing. And he can sort of see me too or see more stuff, which keeps him somewhat entertained.

    9) Bathtub. I briefly considered NOT getting a baby bathtub and just figuring out a way to bathe him in the bath with me or in the sink, but I have no idea how I would have done that at this point. He loves his bathtub!

    10) Baby monitor. I didn't think this would be important at first since our home is small and LO's bedroom is right next to ours, but we can barely hear him when his door is closed (which we keep closed since we have a cat). I kind of wish we got a video one but an audio one works just fine.
  • That piano kick n play is awesome! LO is 8 weeks now and really getting into it!
  • To those with the piano kick play mat, how old was your baby when they started using it?

At a month old I started putting her on it. She loved looking at herself in the mirror. Now she's 8w and is kicking the keyboard and hitting the toys that hang. She really loves it.

  • Thank you so much for all your replies. I have gotten most of the stuff listed in these lists, except for the swing. Can you guys please suggest what swing you own?
  • I have the graco glider deluxe and I love it. Btw-Another newborn item to have-Shout. That baby poop stains!
  • I have the fisher price snug a puppy it can go side to side or front to back which is good because not all babies like certain motions

I have this one too.  She liked it, but she would get really hot in there and that annoyed her (summer baby).  Now that it's not so hot she likes it again, after going on a swing strike for about a month. :-)
  • Yeah it is really fluffy in there. In So FL we have central air conditioning on 72 so it's not a problem
  • Thanks. I have read reviews that says fisher-price snug a puppy motor makes loud noises and that it doesn't last a long time. Have you had such issues?

We have the snug a bunny swing (same thing I think) and when we got it down from the attic this time for DS2, the motor was dead. DH Bought a $15 solderless motor from eBay after a little Internet research and that fixed it, but apparently it's very common for swings to die. Fisher price replaces them for $50.
