What pregnancy, maternity, or baby terms drive you crazy?

Re: What pregnancy, maternity, or baby terms drive you crazy?

  • @shinyspade I don't get DH, DS, and DD either! For the longest time I couldn't even figure out what they meant and I had to look it up. I kept reading DD as "designated driver" even though I knew it had something to do with daughter so then when I saw DH and DS I would read it as "designated husband" and "designated son"...my brain is weird :\">

Yes lol! I completely agree! :)

  • It's not necessarily a pregnancy term but when I was pregnant with my daughter I had a coworker refer to her as a parasite. Don't call my baby a parasite. Parasites are very much unwanted which she was NOT and the last thing I want is a negative term floating around her.
  • The other thing that has bothered me is that someone called me a "breeder" the other day.
OK, so you don't want kids. I don't call you names.
Honestly, it's best if you DON'T call the pregnant lady names. I'm feeling crazy and I have pregnancy strength. I will take you DOWN.

I called mine a parasite for a while. It didn't mean I didn't want him, but they are literally feeding off of our bodies like parasites.

The biological definition of a parasite doesn't include that it be "unwanted" however it does include that it be of a different species than the host, our babies are always of the human species so never a parasite wanted or otherwise but sometimes they sure do suck the life right out of you nonetheless!
  • What really gets on my nerves is when one of my family members see me they always say "oh wow your getting fat have you been craving a lot you should tell your husband to go get you some pizza" no I'm not fat there is a child in there and if I am hungry I am perfectly capable of getting it my self
  • Maybe I'm just a jerk but I hate when people ask me 24/7 "how are you doing/feeling/how is the baby?" They didn't really care to know before I was pregnant. And what do they expect me to say? "Oh I actually feel wonderful. Just ran a marathon yesterday and today I think I'm gonna compete in a triathlon." Lol seriously if I told everyone the truth about how I felt I would either get "oh get use to it" from experienced moms or "wtf that's gross" from people who have never been pregnant. At least they care I guess.
  • "Preggo" bothered me for years, lol. Oh and the term, "squishy" for the unborn baby bugged me because of the amount of times I've seen Finding Nemo (don't judge me, hahaha).

  • Preggers. And when people say "oh you're glowing" ..nope, I'm sweating. Thanks for noticing. Also it makes me mad when people compare their pregnancy to mine. I had really bad morning sickness one day and was in and out of the bathroom, and my boss goes "I was never that sick with my daughter, it can't be that bad." or always calls me a whiner and says "just wait til *insert unrelated thing babies do here*". And people asking "how's baby??". Uh? I don't know. He's alive & kicking? We can't really talk to each other right now.
  • I also hate "how's baby" I know people are trying to be nice, but for whatever reason it annoys me!
Also (maybe not quite on topic) I hate when people refer to my baby as "princess" (I'm having a girl) it happens all the time from all sorts of people, I can't figure out why this annoys me, I just know it does.
  • @babybluu I know exactly what you mean. My Mom asks me everytime she sees me or we talk on the phone (we live 10 minutes away so I see her several times a week). It drove me nuts within a few weeks during first pregnancy. I know she means we'll so I try not to get too annoyed. I never had morning sickness or too many symptoms to mention aside from extreme fatigue 1st tri and general aches and pains 3rd tri. So my typical responses include: "I'm feeling pretty good today," "just really tired/ my back is sore," or my new go-to, "I feel pregnant" which is a great response to give to my Mom who, after carrying and giving birth to four babies, completely understand what it means to "feel pregnant!"

I use some combination of those responses for most people because I think in general people are just trying to be polite much in the same way you'd ask someone who bought a new house "so, how's the house coming?"
