Do women usually give birth on their due date?

I'm due dec 21st when that day comes do I go to the hospital that day and induce me or do I wait until it my water breaks? Are due dates just rough estimates dates or do you just appear in that date.

  • @krisdee123 be kind.

@meowcat84 The due date is a rough estimate of when you "should" expect little one. Depending on your how your Dr or midwife feels you could wait longer, or be induced earlier. It really depends on the baby's size, and a few other factors. Are you worried about going over til Christmas?
  • No. Only 4-5% of women give birth on their estimated due date.

So many rude responses, excuse me I was just curious, didn't know there were so many experts on this forums. I don't need bitchy comments.

What has your doctor said about due dates, inductions, etc.?

Get a pregnancy book and start reading on what to expect from labor.

  • OP I happened to have my second child on my due date but that isn't very common.
  • Just asking ask simple question from people's own experience.

But it really isn't just a simple question. It is something that if you don't understand (which you clearly don't) then you should be discussing this, in detail, with your doctor.

Again, have you read a pregnancy book or consulted with a doctor?

  • Sorry if it's harsh, but for the health and well-being of yourself and your baby, please please please talk to a doctor. I really think there is a lot you are unclear on.

I'm not entirely sure asking about the experience from a small subset of people that may or may not have already had children is really all that helpful in your situation, though.  Seriously.  Speak with your doctor.  Discuss a birth plan and signs of labor and what to do when you go in to labor.

No worries.  It's normal to be scared and anxious, but I think talking with your medical team will make you feel A LOT better.

I also highly recommend getting a book such as What to Expect When You're Expecting or any number of other books there are out there for questions and information on pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

Freaking out is normal. But there is no excuse for not understanding your pregnancy and your upcoming labor! It's for your own benefit. Good luck!
