Flea treatments while prego?

Ok guys my dogs got fleas! I've been trying to prevent it but now it's too late! I'm worried about using anything harsh while pregnant! I handled the meds part today at the vet but has anyone found anything to use around the house on rugs and stuff that doesn't harm me or baby?

  • I wouldn't handle any chemicals personally. A couple things you can do is put plain salt or sea salt in your carpet. It dehydrates any eggs. Also vacuume a LOT. You can also put a shallow dish of warm soapy water on the floor. The fleas are attracted to the heat, jump in and drown. Good luck!
  • Thank you! I really don't want to use any chemical either! Natural flea treatments is exactly what I was hoping for!
  • I'll have to try those! They have bedding in their kennel but sleep with us at night! I washed all the bedding in hot and dried in hot for extra time. I haven't seen another flea yet I'm just hoping that's the end of it! I'll salt my carpets too and hope that works!
  • Vacuum twice a day...everywhere! Keep your pets treated every month. The flea life cycle is about 3 months total, so you must stay on top of it. I work in the veterinary industry and have no issues with using any products, but I prefer oral flea preventative. All of the topical liquids are safe, especially once dry. Use gloves to apply or have someone else apply it. Keep your pets in a separate room/ outside while it dries if you are concerned.
  • Our INDOOR cats just got them as well!! Ugh. Just took them to the vet also. They said use advantage because fleas are becoming immune to frontline. DH works for a pest control company and said the only way he would spray the house is if we left for an entire weekend. We haven't sprayed yet because DS is 4 months old. We'd have to take all of his stuff out before spraying. If you have a local pest control company see what they suggest.
  • Also for the fleas, you can wash the dogs with dawn dish soap. I find it works even better than flea medicine but my cats are super hard to wash lol.
  • Our indoor cat has fleas too! We keep trying Frontline or Advantage (don't remember), but I'm going to try the lemon oil now and cedar around the house as well!
