Do Techs tell you if there is a heartbeat?

Hi. I went in for a viability ultrasound. The tech didnt tell me anything yes or no. Is this normal?

Re: Do Techs tell you if there is a heartbeat?

  • Just depends. I've had techs tell me "the doctor will talk to you. I'm not allowed to." and I've had techs point out everything.

  • My SIL is the ulrasound tech at our hospital so she usually tells me everything.
  • Ok. Well she didnt tell me and im over 6 weeks. Ive lost hope since she took so long looking. I assume its not goid
  • The US tech told us that she was unable to find a heartbeat.

  • I am a cardiac ultrasound tech so I knew what I was looking for it today. I am 6 weeks and 2 days and there was an obvious flickering of a heartbeat. I will say, techs are not supposed to give any sort of diagnosis but that doesn't mean that we don't.
  • With my first pregnancy, ultrasounds were sooo stressful. A lot of time they don't say anything. I wish they would realize that I'm in agony waiting for them just to say anything positive!!!
  • Sometimes they can't see it that early. I went in for my 8 weeks appt and they offered the ultrasound but warned me that it's still early and they may not find anything for another couple weeks, so I decided not to bother.
  • Mine told me, but I know some do and some don't.

  • Mine have always told me what the heart rate is and also when there was no heartbeat in the past

  • The tech told me for my last miscarriage. It was devastating. I wish they would have brought me into another room and had the Doctor tell me. Instead I had to walk from the US room balling my eyes out past all the other pregnant women and then talk about the options with my Doctor in a quiet, treatment room. I will never forget that day =( I'm hoping you got good news from the Doctor, but if you did not I'm so sorry. I know how badly it hurts =( Time does take away some of the pain.

  • Sometimes they do if it's good news. When I went in for a suspected MC the tech told me she wasn't allowed to tell me anything, and looked at me strange when I asked for a picture.

Absolutely devastating. You can usually tell if they see something wrong. With mine, we could clearly see there wasn't anything on the screen (when there had been at our two previous USs), but we hoped we were seeing things.
  • My tech has told me both times. The dr came in to confirm. They let me go out the back entrance so I didn't have to walk by anyone.
