  • Interior designer
  • I'm an internal auditor for a pharmaceutical company.  My current job includes a lot of international travel which I absolutely love; however, I had been planning to leave this position for a while now. I will be entering law school in August 2016... I'm excited to be able to have some time with my little one before school begins, but I am certainly nervous about balancing motherhood with school.
  • So excited to see so many costume designers!  That was my first career, before I became a teacher.  I got my master's degree in Texas and worked mainly in Baltimore/DC for a few years before moving home to get my teaching certification.

  • I'm the Director of Human Resources at a company with apprx. 1000 employees. I've said this before and I'll say it again...when it's time for most of us US residents to go on leave (FMLA, STD, LOA) or talk about the Affordable Care Act (insurance, free breast pumps and mother's rooms at work) I will help decipher! My friends/family pretty much come to me for all of that since I've had extensive training, research, and experience! I absolutely love my job and the crazy stories everyday! I'm also the primary breadwinner so there's no staying at home for me. :( BUT it helps when you enjoy the job! My husband actually owns his own small business so that allows him to stay home with our DD and future baby. I'm extremely blessed to have him stay at home as it makes it easier for my career.

I teach college classes (one night/week per semester) and love it! When I retire I will probably still teach part time!

  • I'm a transportation broker/dispatcher. I don't plan on going back to work after the baby comes, though. DH doesn't know yet! I just can't stand the thought of leaving my sweet baby with a stranger all day every day to make money. They're only little once!!!!

  • I'm a Paramedic.
  • **** QUESTION BELOW ****

First of all, I am a Project/Program Manager at a software company. I manage multiple projects for a handful of different clients.

My question: It is very likely that my company will be making some significant organizational changes within the next few months, and possible that my entire team could be laid off. If that ends up being the case, what is the best way to go about looking for a job? Being pregnant, I feel it's probably not something I would be upfront about with a potential company where I would want to be hired.

I feel like it's much harder to find a job/get hired as a pregnant woman, knowing that I will inevitably have to take some time off. Normally that doesn't sit well with a new employer.

    Any advice is appreciated!
  • kara0729 You and I sound like we have the same job ;) I'm an Executive Director of HR for a privately owned company roughly 900 employees. Curious as to what your companies leave policies are for Maternity (a lot of our e/e's are very part time and therefore don't qualify for FMLA etc. ) we have very few people in my type of role & I'm curious how my owner is going to manage my leave.

Can you take a chunk of time off? Or afford to? Ideally it would be nice if they held onto you until you were due and then you could interview after baby. Agree though, hard to hide a pregnancy for a new job knowing you'd have to take time off.

  • I teach undergraduate philosophy. I will go back to work in July but I should be able to pick up a mix of in-person and online courses for the fall semester, which means that I will be able to work from home more than I do in a typical semester.

Go for it!  It will be so worth it - opens up a whole new world of opportunities (and salary!)  Good luck.

If you think you might have a job until close to your due date, I agree with job-hunting while on "mat leave" as it were - it's a great time, in general, I find.  If you really think your job is in jeopardy in the near term, I might start looking ASAP.
  • I'm in sales and sell molecular testing to hospital labs. One assay I sell is for Group B Strep. Ladies, let me tell you how important this test is as pre-screen. It's best if it's molecular and not culture. Now I have to convince the hospital where I plan to deliver to use my test! Kind of interesting and related to pregnancy. @mrsschmity I would perhaps wait until after you deliver and are ready to go back because you have a great reason why you are not employed and a story to tell that explains any gap on your resume. Good luck though!

  • I work in customer service for a medical supply company. I was a preschool teacher but needed a better paying job prior to starting a family, but now I'm looking for something that doesn't involve phone calls all day long!
  • I work for a railroad company, mostly men at job.
  • I am an RN in the med surg/stepdown float pool at the only Level 1 Trauma hospital in our city (louisville KY). I work two twelve hour shifts a week and I absolutely LOVE it! I get the best of both worlds- I am mostly at home but get to have my grownup time at work too.
  • I am an administrator for a general contractor.  We build nursing homes and assisted livings all over the US.  I do anything from training to insurance.  When I grow up (i'll be 30 in January), I want to get my surgery tech license, add that to my BBA and work my way up in a hospital.
