  • I'm not waiting to tell people this time. I have a Big Sister shirt for DD to wear to Sunday dinner with my family. DH wants to tell his parents in person so it wont happen until Thanksgiving. I don't have Facebook so i wont be posting it there.
  • We told my parents on Sunday (using the book I love you, Grandpa and a little box that said Grandmother on the back), we plan to tell DH's side of the family (dad and sisters) in the next few weeks when we see them. We are getting together with his family to celebrate his younger sisters engagement and his older sisters birthday, so my hope is to give the younger a RSVP card to her future wedding and RSVP for 3. For his older sister I got her a happy birthday aunt card.  Most close friends will know the second I don't have a drink when we are together. As for people I don't see often and extended family we will probably tell after the first Dr. appointment in December.
  • We'll probably take a cute family photo for our Holiday card and let that double as the announcement and post it on Facebook shortly after the cards go out. I'm sure I'll tell immediate family by thanksgiving - because I'll be puking by then.
  • We're hosting Thanksgiving this year, so we've decided to tell our families then. It'll be right at 8wks, and we'll have had our first u/s a few days prior. We haven't quite decided how we'll announce though.

We'll call extended family and those that aren't in town soon after, and will likely do some kind of FB announcement Christmas/New Year's.
  • My husband and I are going to Disney World this Christmas and really want to take cute reveal pictures there and then tell the family when we get back. I'll be 13 weeks. However I don't know if we can hold out that long. But I really want to it would be so cute!

We went to WDW at the end of September into early October. I had AF with me Sept 29. While we were there and i was on my period we took we're expecting pictures!!! rofl!! we got congratulated so much. Flash forward to today and I am pregnant!! so, the timing isnt that off... we plan on sending out announcements with the Christmas cards or using the picture in the card (not sure yet). We will be telling immediate family before then probably during Thanksgiving.

I grew up with facebook, and I will definitely be posting it on my page. I've only known for 1 day and i'm already going nuts and i want to tell everyone!!

  • We will be telling my family this Thursday (it's my mom's birthday and she's going to be so insanely happy haha), but other than that we'll just let it spread by word of mouth and start talking about it openly after the first ultrasound. Oh! We'll have to call my husband's family in Europe on the weekend to tell them, though not sure how much of a reaction it'll get lol.

We don't have facebook so won't be doing any social media announcing.
  • Congrats @MsBeachNJ - That's a super cute announcement for your husband! Love it.  My husband sort of walked in on me taking a test because my two year old said, "Daddy, Mommy pee pee on the potty. Come with me!" And that was that.

  • @stephweinstein - still a cute memory!! I waited till after my husband left for work to test because I knew if he was home I'd have 0 willpower to not just blurt it out... and I had asked him a few weeks ago if he'd like to be there with me to take the test, or if he'd like to be surprised and he thought it would be nice to be surprised, so the pressure was on for me to make that happen!

  • @MsBeachNJ so cute! Yes, a funny memory and very typical of us and the craziness that is my household.  I live in NJ too and we have a house down the shore as well.  Do you live down the shore?

  • @stephweinstein I do! Grew up having a shore house, and DH and I met down here... when we got engaged we decided this was where we wanted to be year round - so here we are!

  • Ugh - I wish we lived down there.  It's just a weekend house for us.  It seems like a much less chaotic life than living near NYC.  Our house is in Bradley Beach.  Where are you guys? @MsBeachNJ

  • @stephweinstein I'm about 20 minutes south of you :) I lived/worked in NYC for 10 years... this is a much better quality of life for us, small town, quaint & peaceful in the offseason... and yes it gets hectic in the summers but the proximity to the beach is worth it (even if we have to share with all the summer folks!)

  • I'm not shocked by that.  It sounds so much more quiet and peaceful to live there than to live up north. @MsBeachNJ

  • I mentioned it in another thread but we're telling our families at Christmas (if we can wait that long). I originally wanted to do ornaments for my parents but I found a couple of kids books by Mercer Meier about "Just Me and Grandpa" and "Just Me and Grandma" that I think I'll go with instead. I had a ton of those books growing up, there's a whole series and it just seems more fitting. We'll probably just call my MIL because we don't really talk much and likely do a photo frame with Grandpa on it for my FIL and his wife.

We might end up telling my brother and his fiancee sooner because they're getting married mid-June and if she asks me to be a bridesmaid I think I should tell her I'll either be giant or possibly have a newborn.

There's a very popular author right now, Karen Katz.  She does these "lift the flap" books.  They have, "Grandma and Me" and "Grandpa and Me" and they would be perfect to start your collection.  Super super popular

We already told our families but are waiting to tell friends and extended family. I surprised DH with a card, a 'Welcome Baby' balloon and a lamb blankie that says bless this child. I was able to record his reaction so it worked out well! We surprised our families the day we got the BFP with "Babysitter needed, position opens July 2016" cards. They were all surprised as they had no idea we'd been trying and I used to always push it back.

We're waiting to tell our friends and extended family in December. We have a friend visiting so we might wait until she comes to surprise her and then announce to everyone else. I think we'll send out christmas cards and post them on FB.

We also gave my brothers and SIL cards that said "the best brothers get promoted to uncle" (sisters/auntie for SIL) with a picture of two wicker chairs with a tiny one in the middle that I took in our backyard. I'm a photographer so I just took it the same day we got the BFP :P

I just looked them up, they're perfect! I wonder if I could tape an u/s pic under one of the flaps... Thanks for the tip!

  • We are waiting to tell our families on Thanksgiving. We would prefer to tell our families before our friends, but we see our friends a lot more often so it's going to be hard to keep my mouth shut! I managed to get my first doctor's appointment scheduled for right before Thanksgiving, and I'm thinking it'll seem a little more "real" after that. Need to come up with a good way to tell family on Thanksgiving, though...

  • DH and I agreed before getting our BFP that we'd wait till the end of the 1st trimester when it's a little safer. Apparently I have a higher risk of MC because of my Endometriosis? We're probably going to have to tell his family sooner since they're insisting on visiting for Thanksgiving. If I'm part of the majority of women who get morning sickness I imagine it will be hard to hide that I'm pregnant by Thanksgiving with company staying at my house.

We're going to try to wait till Christmas to tell my family since it's the soonest I'll be able to see everyone. My mother and grandma just announced they're visiting next when (at which point I'll be 6 weeks) and they're staying with me a few days. I suppose I'll see if morning sickness has started yet and if I can hide it (assuming it has). Otherwise, I may be telling them sooner than I'd like.

At least by Thanksgiving I'll have a picture of the ultrasound since my 8 week appointment is the 16th. Ya know, assuming all goes well. FX

DH and I still haven't managed to agree on a way to tell everyone yet. I really wanted to tell his mom by making her a really cute card with something like [front] "We think you're just grand..." [inside] "..so grand in fact that we've decided to add it to your name! Congratulations, Grandmother!*"
    *Offer valid starting 6-28-15

But DH told me it was "cheesy and lame" and that we weren't going to announce that way. wah wah

I guess we'll see what we can come up with that we, at least mostly, agree on by Thanksgiving!

I think it's cute!! Mind you... my DH would say the same thing :), but aren't these announcements supposed to be kind of "cheesy"

  • This past weekend we had our parents and siblings over. We made a slide show that projected on the TV with "first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage." For the last picture we had our dog in between us and DH and I made a heart on my belly. They were so excited and started freaking out! This will be the first baby for both sides.

I actually had told my mom before because we're so close. I put a pacifier in a little box with a note from baby :)
  • So I think our Christmas plans for a reveal have been screwed up. My MIL is getting a full historectomy on November 13th. I think we may let the immediate family know then and do the full announcement in our Christmas cards. I think it would be a good way to lighten the mood!

  • I told MH by giving him a card that said "oh shit... We're going to have a baby! Due July 2016" and a onesie that I bought nearly two years ago that says "future zombie killer".

We haven't told anyone else yet. We are waiting until Christmas so tell our parents. MH wants to tell him family by wearing a shirt that says "be nice to me, my wife is pregnant" and casually take off his sweater during dinner.

I was thinking I would get my parents "my new name is grandma/grandpa" (or something like that) mugs and serve them with tea after Christmas dinner :-)

  • Totally shocked DH last night with the news! I had told him I couldn't test for another week or so (he isn't all that tuned into my cycle) so I told him the things I had ordered from Snapfish came in the mail and asked if he wanted to see them. I had him open a snapfish box & inside was the picture I had made, my positive tests, and a note from baby, he was so surprised (and I got pics!!). Funny after the shock wore off the first thing he said was "so you can't drink now" (we're hosting a Halloween party this weekend) and then was trying to find creative ways of us hiding it... the way men think!!

  • Since the party is at our house i figure it will be easier... I can fill my wine glass with wine if anyone is looking, and then take it to my bedroom & swap it out with juice... or if I'm drinking a beer - I will just swap the beer out of the bottle with apple juice - my cousin did that and tricked us all summer ;) It will be much harder when we go out to dinner (we always got to BYO places) with a few of our couple friends and we all always share the same kind of wine...so I'll have to figure out a way to keep my own bottle of non alcoholic wine without them noticing?! That's the only part that stresses me!

  • i bought my husband a book, and a baby onsie that said "#2016" on it and wrapped it in a gift bag and placed it by the coffee maker so he would see it in the morning, he opened it and was very happy and excited! My moms birthday is next week and she loves colouring so I'm wrapping up a colouring book that says "I love grandma" on it (I ordered it off amazon) she's going to freak! And for my in laws we bought a Christmas ornament from hallmark that is a "pregnant mom to bee" so we are going to wrap it up and give that to them in a couple weeks. We will tell all our imidiate family before the 12week mark, I would want their support if anything were to happen.

We were at a 3 day wedding all weekend and that's what I did. I just ordered cranberry juice with sparkling water and asked them to put it in the same glass as they would a cocktail. Worked pretty well. We told one close couple because they were coyly asking what I was drinking (the wife thought I was in the TWW) and my husband drunkenly told the groom at the end of the night, to which he replied the bride is 9 weeks and they haven't told anybody! Didn't even notice she wasn't drinking all weekend. We're throwing a halloween party on Friday and I'll probably do the same thing with a "mixed drink" in a solo cup.
  • We told DD and our parent with a book. I'm A Big Sister! They were so shocked! We plan to tell family in the coming weeks. We may tell Facebook with a picture of DD and her new book. Or maybe the obligatory fall-pumpkin-baby picture. You know the one "We're adding a little pumpkin to our patch!", that one.

    *spelling
  • Haven't decided yet how or even even to tell everyone! My last pregnancy we told everyone early on and I ended up miscarrying. DH mentioned he wants to wait to confirm everything's good, but I think that we should tell everyone anyways. If it doesn't stick, then it helps raise awareness of miscarriages!

Plus, I don't know how long I can fool ppl if I'm not drinking....

I think it'd be super cute to tell DH's family by dressing our daughter up as a Big Sister for Halloween this weekend! Hubs isn't quite sure how well that will go over. Our daughter is 8 months old.

    We shall see.
  • We decided how to reveal to our parents & I ordered the things today (part of me was super nervous to jump the gun & do so before anything is confirmed by an ultrasound/dr appointment) but my Dr. Appt isn't for another 2 weeks and I want to be able to tell our parents that weekend (appt is on a Friday) so I but the bullet and ordered it, having faith that all is going well!!

On my DH's side, it's the first grandbaby, so we ordered a frame off of Etsy that says "Only the best parents get promoted to Grandparents" and we will input a sonogram photo in it.

On my side my sister already has 2 little ones so my parents aren't exactly "becoming" grandparents as they already are, so again on Etsy we had a sign made that says "The best thing about having you as parents, is our children having you as Grandparents" and again will wrap it with a sonogram pic...

I also ordered these adorable "countdown to baby" timers on etsy for like $6 and we'll give one to each set of grandparents set to the due date.

I'm excited we've gotten this far with ideas... Now just have to have the next 2 weeks pass quickly & decide when to announce to the rest of our siblings/family!!!
