October 2015 Moms

Is there hope?

Hey, October moms!
My due date was 10/20, I had a doctors appt that day and was told that my cervix was soft but still shut-- I've had no signs at all (contractions, mucus plug, dilation, water breaking-- nothing) I am scheduled to be induced on Wednesday 10/28 but I want to know if anyone was in a similar position as me and still went into spontaneous labor.

Thanks moms!

  • Please throw me something, ladies!

  • I am a FTM so I don't know but I have read that it is possible!
  • At my last check I was still closed up and just starting to soften. My Dr told here there's always a chance, you can go from nothing to having a baby that day or you can be soft,, dilated and quite effaced and stay that way for weeks. It's out of your hands....

    Baby N-Born:10/29/15
Our Angel: EDD: 05/11/17. MC at 6 weeks
    Baby #2- EDD: 07/18/17

  • Go for a massage! I had a massage followed by a doctors appointment that showed nothing in terms of baby making an appearance (other then a thinned cervix) anyway the next day I had cramps, the following say full blown contractions! Baby was in my arms before I knew it :).
  • My due date was 10-19 had multiple procedures like membrane sweep and cervix ripening and I am barely 2 cm. Not much hope here either, I feel your pain. I am suppose to be induced Monday but that's if they don't have any emergency pregnant woman to deal
with ahead of me, so it's not even a for sure thing. Very discouraged as well. Hoping I will see him by Monday night, we'll see.
  • At my last appointment (on a Thu) I was 1 cm dialated but not effaced at all. I went into labor that Sat and gave birth 8 days early.

  • I'm right there with you. I was due on October 19th. Still no signs of labor. No contractions or anything. I have a soft cervix but I'm also closed up nice and tight. I'm scheduled to be induced this Sunday... so we'll see if anything happens before then... but so far, nothing. Good luck to you! You still have time!

  • Let me know if you see any action!
  • Do you have to be induced? Can you wait another week?
  • A new day and still nothing ! Aye!
  • I don't think I necessarily *have* to be induced, but it was Doctor recommendation and I really can't afford to be not going to work if it's not time being spent with baby! I started leave one week ago.
  • I wasn't dilated at all at 40 weeks and was scheduled for induction at 41 weeks. Started spotting and losing my plug at 40+4, then went into labor and had my baby at 40+5.
  • Most first time moms go past their due date. I went 2 weeks past with mine. I was closed until labor started. There's still hope! I just started taking evening primrose oil. It's a capsule, suppose to help soften the cervix.
  • Two things to remember - babies come when they're ready, whether it's you first or fifth, and you EDD is exactly that (an estimation) so even if the stars align and its your lucky day that kid will still come when they're good and ready. With that said try to relax, which is easier said than done at this point :-). There's alway a chance of spontaneous water breaking and labor but if it doesn't happen that way you need to mentally prepare yourself for induction/possible c-section. Read up on everything so when the dr starts throwing medical terms at you you can ask informed questions and don't feel left out of the process. Also try to focus on the positive - keep in mind the goal is a healthy baby and yall could cuddle as soon as they get here. My son was born 40w3d after showing no signs of ever leaving my body. After a full blown meltdown on his due date I embraced the fact that babies come when they're ready and went about life. I went to the acupuncturist and 2 hours after I left my water broke but because my contractions were all over the place and unproductive I was induced. Lots of waiting but 24hours later he was here with me. This one seems to be on the same track and once I'm 40weeks I'll probably go to acupuncture again, even though I know nothing is guaranteed. Hang in there and good luck on Wednesday!
  • I was due 10-22. I still have no signs of labor. I am scheduled for induction on 10-30. I really was hoping to avoid an induction again, so I am hoping that she comes before the. Today was actually a great day. I went clothes shopping, did lots of laundry and made dinner. I am hoping this energy is a sign that labor is close!
  • So this may sound weird, but I firmly believe in mind over matter, or cervix in this case. Keep calm and let baby come. Do breathing exercises and visualize that cervix ripening. Might sound weird, but can't be stranger than castor oil and spicy foods that only start with the letter j.
  • I'm due today and have had no signs of anything. It's my 3rd and my others were both late also. :( I am far more uncomfortable this time though so the end seems to be drawing out. I have a doctor's appt tomorrow...looking for some good news!
  • If this is your first your edd is usually off by nearly a week. Also, nothing is a sign of labor until you are actually in labor. Dilation, effacement, discharge means nothing until you have steady contractions. My first born was here two days after being told my cervix was shut tight. If you want more time to avoid being induced ask for more NSTs and monitoring.
  • 40 + 6 today- I have an appt tomorrow and am scheduled to be induced Wednesday. I've come to terms with the fact that I'll not be going into spontaneous labor... Now I'm just wondering how likely an induction is to be successful if I've not had any dilation/other signs so far-- should I actually be mentally preparing for a csection?
  • Not to be rude, but yes. If your body isn't showing signs of prepping for labor your risk of csection is greater. But you can still end up going into labor or having a little medical nudge work. Go to Childbirthconnection.org and you can research induction methods and the best evidence for each method. You can ask for more time, it's within your rights. If the baby is so doing well and your placenta is not showing signs of calcification then you aren't actually late.
  • I was also due October 20th, and my dr won't induce me until this weekend (non-stress test today showed baby is great, lots of fluid and placenta was not deteriorating), so she's encouraging me to hold out. I'm still very hopeful the baby will come on her own, but I'm also mentally preparing for a c-section if I am induced. I must say, I was totally prepared for the physical toll pregnancy would inflict, but I had no idea what a mental roller coaster the end would be.
  • I was due 10/21, only a cm dilated. I have an induction scheduled for tomorrow. I've been eating pineapple and having a lot of sex and today my mucus plug came out and I'm having contractions. Also pressure points!! Ankle, in between the big and second toe, and in between your thumb and pointer finger. Good luck!
