3rd Trimester

Things to do in hospital while waiting?

so my induction date is scheduled. while we are still hoping and praying he will come on his own it does feel good to know that there is at least an end in sight.

So Tuesday evening we go in to start the induction process. First they will start with a prostaglandin gel or pill and then bring in the big guns Wednesday morning.

So my question...what can we do while we wait around Tuesday night? Any game ideas or thing to bring to make the time pass? I can only watch so much TV and I have a feeling I will not be sleeping all that well Tuesday night.

  • I bring along whatever is relaxing to you. My zune was a lifesaver when I was in the hospital! And don't get too  ahead of yourself thinking you won't sleep. I slept the night before I was induced just as it was any other night. I know you hear it a lot, but you'll need the rest!

  • We played Carcasonne, played cards, read my book, watched Kung Fu Panda, and I watched a few episodes of Friday Night Lights through netflix.

  • I worry about sleeping because even at home in my own bed I have been having terrible insomnia for weeks now. Plus I am so anxious to meet the little one that lately I feel very restless..even at home... can't imaging just chilling at the hospital. Maybe they can give me a pill:)

  • Maybe a portable dvd player if you have one.  Maybe the baby's scrapbook if you are doing one and need to get caught up, or a journal to write in.  Other than this, ditto what the other posters said makes sense too.

  • I'm thinking of bringing a stack of magazines and maybe Uno-to play with DH. What are you suppose to do with your DH?

We were in the hospital last night because I got really dehydrated...he was so bored, he turned the tv on and started watching Oprah (the only thing on), it was all about the female orgasm--he loved it! Then, like a little kid he starts playing with buttons and hits the call button--he claims he thought it makes the recliner he was sitting in actually recline!

  • If you know a little kid they may have a Nintendo DS you could borrow!  I have to locate mine!  You can read a book, play suduko, uno, rent and watch a movie on a laptop.

  • We brought our laptop and DVDs.

  • My induction was scheduled for the 14th at 2am, and I woke up on the 13th at 2am with contractions, so there is hope he will come on his own!  I loved having my ipod and listening to music.  I had also brought Friends DVDs and magazines, but since I arrived at the hospital in labor I didn't use either of those.  I probably would have if I had gone in for the induction.

  • Believe it or not, we had the laptop in when I was induced with DD, and it proved for some good entertainment--yay for YouTube.  We also watched TV, but when I wasn't doing any of that, I was just lying around trying to get some rest.  We're taking some magazines this time, but other than that there's not much you can do.  You might want to walk up and down the halls if you can to get labor moving along.
  • I was int he hospital nearly 24 hours before giving birth, I don't remember being bored but maybe I was... we did have our laptop (DH's) with us and I remember using it a few times but I was too?anxious?to do much really. I remember watching TV.
  • I'm planning to bring the laptop, if nothing else for after delivery to upload the pics to and share with out of town family.  Also my husband and I used to lay in bed and do those giant mixed puzzle books together, as a surprise to him I am going to get one and pack it.  Kind of a last minute attempt at connecting with just my husband.
