I don't know yet how we're going to tell our parents or friends, but I know how I'm telling my sister! My sister is expecting her first child in January, so I ordered two onesies that each say "best bud" with an arrow pointing towards the other. I'm going to tell her I got a cute outfit for her baby and when she opens the gift bag, I'll then pull the other onesie out of my purse and tell her I have the other half!
None of our parents are together, and we all live far apart, so it's challenging.
We will see my mum and brother on Thanksgiving though (with extended family). I think I'm going to wait until dessert, say I forgot something in the car, and then bring in a "pie". I'll ask my mum for help opening it, but instead of pie there will be a onesie that says, "Grandma's 'lil pumpkin".
My father is one of those guys who buys himself everything, so it's impossible to ever get him a gift. Anyway, I convinced him not to buy a pedometer with the very clear implication that I'll do it. I plan on sending him a fitbit in the mail with a card that reads, "Hi grandpa, This is to keep you active in your recent retirement because you're going to need all of the energy you have to keep after the little steps coming in June."
For MIL, we'll get her a Goodnight Moon book. She used to read it to DH all the time when he was a boy. Inside we'll write, "So you can read it to the next generation, Grandma."
For FIL, he gets a phone call because that's all he deserves.
