Baby measures small

I'm 28 weeks and they did another ultrasound today and said she's 2 lbs11 oz but measures small for her due date... Anyone else going through this?

Re: Baby measures small

  • I'm 25 wks and at 19 wks he was only weighed 9 oz and in the 20th percentile. I was a small baby only 6lbs and there's plenty of time for him to gain more weight. She might be small if your doc isn't too concerned I wouldn't worry too much.

  • I'm going for another scan next week at 30 weeks and I have a feeling she's going to measure small...she was in the lower percentiles before at 20 weeks so it wouldn't surprise me. We shall see!
  • Yes! My doctor measured the baby at almost 2 weeks behind when I was at 22 weeks and she was still over a week behind when I went back to check for growth at 24 weeks. But the fact that there is still growth means everything should be okay and the baby will just be small! It was really scary for me between the two weeks but not worried about it anymore! I just keep eating and drinking water a lot!
  • Has baby been measuring small the whole time? It's normal for babies to be a little small or a little big. Your doctor would let you know if there's a big concern. From what I understand it's concerning if there's a big change to how baby has been measuring before. T&p your way!

  • My baby was measuring small as well, the midwife isn't concerned as she's still growing just fine. It could be that they got it wrong at your dating scan or baby is just small! Nothing to worry about.
  • As long as baby is continually growing on the same curve everything should be fine. Just a smaller baby. At my growth scan last week (27 weeks) baby was measuring almost 2 weeks behind, guesstimated at 2 pounds and 37th percentile. She has been measuring around that same percent the entire time. My babies have been weighing 6pounds 4 ounces to 7 pounds 7 ounces at birth. While being at the lower end isn't always ideal it's nice to know that as long as they are continuing to grow at the same rate that all is well. She will just fit newborn diapers longer than her siblings. ;)
  • Mine was measuring a little small too, after 2 appts of measuring small they bumped back my due date a few days, and now whenever I go in they say she's measuring perfectly average (for the new date 5 days later). As long as she keeps consistently growing, my OB isn't concerned, and I expected her to arrive about a week past due date anyway (I was, and so were my 2 siblings).

  • When I was pregnant on my daughter, she measured below average the entire way through my pregnancy due to sickness & my doctor always made me cry. I never enjoyed a hospital appointment because i always left in tears. I ended up being induced at 37 due to preeclampsia. The day before I was induced they scanned me and told me she weighed in or around 6 pounds, when she was born she weighed exactly 5. She is healthy & so intelligent. She has never had any health problems and isn't small for her age now. So don't worry too much. Your baby will be perfectly fine, if your doctor isn't worrying then don't you worry xxx
  • Our LO measured in the 10th percentile at the 20 and 24 week US. The MFMs are monitoring weekly with Doppler in addition to monthly growth US. He doesn't agree with this guesstimate based on his activity level!
  • Ultrasounds are known to be off when estimating babies weight. With my last pregnancy I had gestational diabetes and was going for weekly ultrasounds to check on baby's weight. My last one said she was 12lbs she was born 3 days later at 7lb 4 ounces. I wouldn't worry too much about measuring small if baby is developing and your doctor isn't concerned.
  • I have an umbilical cord that isn't flowing properly due to a blocked artery in it. So she is measuring small too. She was A-symmetrical but now she evened out. I'm at 29 weeks and hoping they won't hospitalize too soon. They said she may be a premie but only time will tell.

As long as your baby is growing well and steady your baby should be fine They will monitor you! I go every 2 weeks
