Pads causing diaper rash like irritation?

Anyone else having this issue?? I tried switching brands and it didn't seem to help. I change my pad about every hour so its not that it gets soaked, I'm 1 week pp and my bleeding is pretty light. I'm used to wearing pads, never been able to wear tampons as they cause terrible irritation but my regular cycle was only 3 days so I've never had this diaper rash ish issue. I've tried baby powder/ gold bond but it's not helping much. I'm seriously thinking of using some of LO's Desitin/Butt Paste and see if that helps any.

  • That's what I would do. And maybe use the bottle from the hospital to rinse every time. That and flushable wipes which are the best thing ever! lol. Good luck, hope you feel better!

  • I remember having the same issue with the pads post partum. They are rough and seemed to dry my skin out and itch.

You might try a "lighter" flow pad. They have less of the "absorbancy" chemicals in them, and hopefully won't try your skin out so much.

  • Agree of your bleeding is lighter use a lighter flow pad and absolutely no shame busting out the desitin!

  • Also, look into washable cloth pads. I have this issue during normal use of pads, let alone extended use!
  • I used diaper rash cream.... Oh the things people don't talk about.

  • Definitely switch. Always pads do that to me. I've been using stay free and no irritation.

I use my Peri bottle still as well so I don't think that's an issue either. I guess my skin on that area is just super sensitive.
I ended up putting the Desitin on it ans it helped a ton just overnight so I guess that's what I'll be doing to help manage it

I read another post that said she was allergic to the latex in the pads. If you're cloth diapering, just use the diaper inserts - they save on pads! Good luck
  • I'm allergic to latex and found that the always pads had 15% latex or something which gave me horrible burns :( Kotex brand is 100% latex-free.. I'm not sure about other ones! But I was using sudocream on my burns and they're healing up slowly
  • I don't know what my issue was saturday but it was stinging, sore, lots of discomfort....I ended up having a quick splash in the tub after every time I peed (like an inch of warm water for a minute) It was hard and took a bit more time but it was the relief I needed (I even peed in the tub once) Im still feeling better today! I also have started taking an advil and a Tylenol in the morning and it seems to be working.

Im quite enjoying these postpartum posts! Seems like there are always a handful of us going through the exact same thing.

I tried looking up the latex content of Always online and didn't find what I was looking for. Where did you find the latex content info? I'm allergic to latex as well and the Always pads wrecked me!!! Shouldn't they have to say on the packaging that they contain latex!?
  • I don't remember where I found it unfortunately! I had spent quite a bit of time on google so I'm not completely sure but I had a reaction the exact same to latex condoms which is how I know the pads contain latex.. As soon as I stopped using them and switched to Kotex and used a zinc cream on the burns it went away and only now I'm starting to feel the pain from having a vaginal birth, that's how bad the reaction was!
