Labor Induction

Im being induced on Nov 18th. The reason for my doctor wanting to induce is because of hypertension. Pressure in the 130s/80s to 140s/90s. I've gone back and forth between refusing but I've decided that it would be best. Has anyone else been induced or is scheduled for an induction this pregnancy?

I am scheduled for an induction a week before my due date. I have been fighting gestational diabetes since 10 weeks.

Last pregnancy I was scheduled but I went in on a Monday and was scheduled for the following Sunday so it was more last minute. I hope to go naturally this time but for health reasons they wanted the kid out. It went fine other than sleeping the night before...that didn't happen

I am also going in on the 18th. I'll be 37 weeks. Suspicion of pre eclampsia without high bp. I have high liver enzymes and protein in my urine.

I will probably be getting induced for GD, and it's all cool with me. I actually don't mind having an endgame in plan.

I'm so nervous about the pitocin and epidural since I originally planned to go natural. But this isn't about me at this point and it is nice that I can tell my family (who are all in different states) when she will be here.

I was induced with DS because of high blood pressure (I had no other signs of pre-e). When I was getting induced I just asked that they not break my water until I started progressing. Most doctors want you to deliver within 24 hours of your water breaking and I wanted to make sure I was at least moving in the right direction before starting that clock. It turned out I never progressed at all I don't remember all the drugs they tried, but nothing happened. After trying for 2 days, the dr said they could start trying some more extreme measures or they could send me home (DS was on the monitors for the whole time and looked great, my blood pressure was also high the whole time but stable.... so with the extra monitoring I had the dr felt more comfortable sending me home for labor to start on its own).
I went home and went into labor on my own 2 weeks later. I am honestly the only person I know that was sent home after a failed induction.

I will be induced between 36-38 weeks if the babies don't come on their own. They won't let twins go past this date at my practice and I have a few conditions that make it dangerous for me to go past this point. But, on all the growth scans the babies are measuring over 2 weeks ahead... I think they may come before that point on their own.

Diagnosed with borderline GD so they want to induce me when I hit full term if she doesn't come on her own. It's definitely not my dream situation but it's just one moment of many where it's about my daughter, not me.

At my appointment yesterday my OB dropped the 'i' word as a possibility... my blood pressure was much higher than usual. So they monitored me for a few hours and did some/a/the NST and it went down a little but I go back Friday to check again. Blood and urine (TMI?) were normal but the sudden BP spike is still not a great sign. Baby's heartrate and activity were really good though, so that's positive! I'll find out more on Friday.

I'm being induced Nov 23 at 39 weeks due to ivf and my advanced maternal age.

You can still go without an epidural, even if you're induced with pitocin. People do it all the time, although I've heard the contractions can be more intense. My mom's wife was induced & didn't have an epidural. Nothing wrong with getting the epidural, though! All birth is "natural" IMO.

I have an induction date of 11/2 due to high BP my entire pregnancy, I am hoping so badly to go into labor before that! *fingers crossed*

Same as pp. An epidural is not a requirement with induction

I had my first induced (water broke) and survived on gas. Nothing wrong with an epidural tho. I personally dislike volunteering to put anything into my spine unless necessary, which if I am in excruciating pain this time, will be necessary haha

My induction is not scheduled but due to AMA they will not let me go past my due date. They are watching me closely with NST and lots of US and will schedule it when they think the time is right. Im still hoping that i will go on my own before that point. Im 37 wks today.

I may or may not be getting induced this weekend. I was showing signs of pre e (high BP 140s/high 90s sometimes even over 100, protein in my urine just at my last appointment, and some pretty intense swelling). My doctor sent me directly to my hospital for tests and they decided to admit me for a 24 hour urine test - I'll find out in a couple hours whether or not they'll induce me on Saturday or send me home. I had a mini freak out at first just because I was scared but I got over that pretty quick. I know my doctors will do everything in their power to keep me and my baby safe and I couldn't be in a better place for that kind of treatment than the hospital. Luckily the symptoms have had zero effect on my little one and the bean is doing great! I'm sure you'll be well taken care of on the 18th

I was induced due to heavy bleeding and gave birth less than 4 hours later. Do what you are comfortable with that you think is safest for your baby. I was left with no choice but now I know it was the right decision. It's a tough decision that only you can make. Good luck!

Good luck today OP. I'm starting to get very nervous myself. We check in at 9:30 pm. My to do list before then is a mile long though!

I was induced with DD due to GD and had no pain meds. You can definitely avoid the epidural if you want. Will be induced with this baby if he doesn't come before I hit 39w 6d.

Yep, had pitocin with my son and delivered without pain medication. It is definitely doable. I have no comparison between labor with vs labor without pitocin.
I can tell you that for me, I went from a 2-10 super fast and there was not a whole lot of rest time between contractions so it would have been nearly impossible for me to sit still for an epidural.

I am being induced on Sunday at 38 weeks and 3 days due to high blood pressure and borderline GD. I'm nervous about it all, but as a FTM I am putting my trust in my doctors opinion.

I was induced at 38 weeks ( last pregnancy) no epidural just gas and pethadine 7hrs 20mins later my daughter was born it was pretty intense but I've only had one child so I don't know any better than that I'd love to be induced again and know exactly when it's going to happen the not knowing when I will go into labour and what will happen and how it will feel gives me really bad anxiety! I was induced for my last pregnancy after measuring 44 weeks pregnant at 38 weeks. At the time I felt like there was no possible way I could keep going. We had a lung maturity test and when that came back great, we started the pitocin. After almost 24 hours I still wasn't really progressing as much as they would have liked, though I was having contractions on my own when I was admitted. They gave me the option of sending me home or breaking my water and we decided to break my water and things moved pretty quickly after that. It took almost exactly 24 hours from start to finish, not including all the testing we did before hand. I didn't notice that my contractions were stronger or more intense, but I've heard that pitocin has that effect on a lot of women.

I'm measuring pretty far ahead this pregnancy too, but this time I'm determined not to be such a wimp and to let my body do its thing as long as baby and I both safe and healthy. No baby has ever stayed in there forever! You just have to do what's right for YOU and trust your medical team. Good luck OP!

Can I ask what your baby ended up weighing? Per my midwife's advice, I take the measurements with a grain of salt. 44 weeks at 38 sounds like you had a mighty big babe!

I'm going to be induced within the next week. I'm getting acupuncture tomorrow to see if that will help the process.

Do they start you straight away on the pitocin in the US? I'll have a tampon like thing inserted for 24 hours, then if that doesn't start things off enough they do it again and the very last resort is getting you on a pit drip.

NH in U.S. here, and that's the exact same procedure I'm having done. Cervidil on the 25th, again on the 26th if need be and then on the 27th
A pitocin drip that they start small and increase every half hour. I'm doing acupressure, and yoga ball bouncing in hopes of going before then. Obviously it won't happen unless LO is ready but I figure I can help out.

@thefithuntress She only weighed 6lb14oz! No extra fluid, no swollen organs or anything strange. I'm measuring ahead this time around too, but not by nearly as much, and I think this time it has to do with an inaccurate due date. (Going by LMP for a 28 day cycle just doesn't work for most women!) We have no idea what happened with my last pregnancy! A bit ahead or behind isn't a big deal, but I was SO huge!!!

I am high risk due to my own personal health problems. I've also been on bed rest since about week 32 (mid Sept). I now have a gallbladder that's acting up.

Baby is doing great. According to my OB, he's going to be a pretty big baby. He feels bigger than my other two did at this point in my pregnancies.

I am getting induced on the 28th. I'll be at 39wks. I'm not sure I'm going to make it that long though. 8 days to go!
