April 2016 Moms

Has anyone here been to Disney World, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure while pregnant?

I will be in Orlando in November for a conference (coincidentally, also during my bday), and in between talks I should be able to visit 2 parks.
I loooooove roller coasters and sad I can't ride them now. So my question is, which parks are the most "pregnancy friendly"? Which ones gave you the best bang for your buck while pregnant?
Thanks! :)

  • Well I've never been to any of those... However if universal studios Orlando is anything like universal studios Hollywood, then I say try that out because the universal studios Hollywood has less roller coaster attractions and more shows/tour type of attractions. Lots of entertainment that requires you to just sit and watch :) I've always wanted to go to Florida!

  • OMG! I'm kind of super excited to hear this! When will you be there? We will be going over Thanksgiving to start our annual passes to Disney.

I would definitely say Disney is most mama to be friendly. There are only a handful of rides, in all parks combined, I won't be able to go on. Even Kilimanjaro Safaris says advised not to ride while pregnant, but I've been on it and it's fine if you aren't high risk. They don't even question for that ride.

I've been to all of the above parks in Orlando a few times but honestly cannot remember what was ok for pregnancy .. I think because I always tend to skip the mild attractions and go for the roller. Coasters. :) at universal orlando the only thing that comes to mind are the theater-type shows and the tornado one where you just stand and watch... I have to think a bit harder about that. In general my favorite park is islands of adventure, but I don't think I would be allowed even on their kiddy rides like Dr. Seuss...

@imrachellea I will be there nov 7-11, so I will miss you by a few days! Too bad, would have been nice to meet my pregnancy twin. :)
I was looking at some of the guides and don't even allow pregnant women on mild rides like spider man or dr. Seuss!!!
I think maybe Magic kingdom and Epcot will be the best bets from what I can remember...? Epcot is my least favorite park though. Hehe
  • I asked my dr about this last time (he's a perinatologist and people have flown in to see him from other states so I really trust him). He said that basically the reason pregnant women aren't allowed on rides is because they don't want to be accountable in case something happens since you can't really linked these things, but if they don't question me, that it's safe. The only "concern" is that the seatbelt fit, and since I literally wasn't showing yet he assured me id be fine. I rode tower of terror twice and every other roller coaster and DS is still perfect :-)

  • So glad you asked this! I'm going for a conference in December and I'll be 20 weeks! I'm sure all major rides are out of the question but I'm also curious what parks are the most "mama friendly".

I think I would be too much of wimp to try those while preggo! I have ridden them all, but I would always be wondering "what if" with those accelerations/ decelerations while pregnant... I think I will skip those but I will be so tempted!
  • We're doing Disney in December.. They have a list of rides you can't ride on the website. At Epcot, that's only Soarin' and Test Track.. At Magic Kingdom, it's the mountains (space, splash, rail road), and only a couple at Hollywood studios. (Animal kingdom has all the headliners on the no ride list... And it's my least favorite for adults only anyway).
  • I love Epcot. I took DD to a bunch of parks over the summer and Epcot is my favorite but I don't care for roller coasters much.
  • If you wanna feel like a kid, do Magic Kingdom. Basically, the only things there you can't ride are the "mountains" - space mtn, splash mtn, big thunder mtn - and the new Mine Train. We went when I was 12 wks and the only thing I really hated to miss was Rockin' Roller coaster at Hollywood Studios.
  • I live in Florida and am actually going to Disney tomorrow! if you want to go to universal I would go to universal studios and not islands of adventure. If you are going to Disney I would either go to magic kingdom or Epcot. Epcot has the food and wine festival which has booths with many different foods and drinks from "around the world" I would try that if you haven't been sick lately.
  • I'm going in January and the 2 parks I'll be hanging around most are Magic Kingdom and Epcot. I have an excel spreadsheet of my plan if you'd like to see it....  :-B
  • I liked Epcot the best and it had a lot of tame rides that would be pregnancy friendly. Seeing all the international themed areas was fun too.
  • I have annual pass to universal/islands of adventure. I think depending on how pregnant you look will really determine what they let you ride. But most rides are virtual I.E. Harry Potter, minions, etc. so I think you could get away with those if you wanted!
  • We just got back from Disney and went to all parks. I agree with Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Missing the roller coasters is a total bummer but there is plenty else to do. We'll also be going in January for my sons bday when I'll be roughly 6 months. There are a ton of pregnant women in Disney World.

Yes I would love to see it, please! :)
  • The reason I never liked Epcot too much is the paucity of rides... Which is probably the reason why it's a good choice now. :)
  • My sister just went to Disney over the summer while being 6 months pregnant. She was able to go on a ton of rides minus the roller coasters and safari. They have so many attractions that are not just rides that it is probably your best bet.
  • @DougalMcG I would love to see it, too!

Ugh you're not allowed to upload spreadsheets but I'll copy and paste the ride section. There's tons more to do in MK.

Magic Kingdom: Railroad, Swiss Family Treehouse, Magic Carpets, Tiki Room, Jungle Cruise, Pirates,Haunted Mansion,Small World, Peter Pan,Carousel,Winnie the Pooh, Tea Party, Little Mermaid, Dumbo, Tomorrowland Speedway, Astro Orbiter, People Mover, Carousel of Progress, Buzz Lightyear,

Epcot: Spaceship earth, Inventions, Turtle Talk, The Seas, Living with the land, Figment, Ellen’s EA, Grand Fiesta Tour

  • Technically Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the Tomorrowland Speedway are on the no ride list.. Both are pretty mild so it depends on your personal feeling about it!

Thanks!! I'm there now with my 19 month old DD and DH.
I ended up going on the safari ride yesterday which I'm feeling guilty about. But it's just a little bumpy. Nothing crazy.

I'd second Epcot and magic kingdom being your best bets. Make sure to get a caramel candied Apple when in magic kingdom. You will not be sorry!!
  • The bumpiness of the safari is the only reason it's not advised...It's not a no no though, just as you feel comfortable. I'll be going on it in November myself. DD loves animals more than people, and I will NOT miss her going on it the first time.

    I think I'm too much of a wimp to risk anything (a pregnant wimp, I mean… Pre-pregnancy I'm anything but a wimp :) ). I'll probably stick to the boring attractions. :)

Oh sorry, I meant the super slow railroad that goes around the park. But you're not supposed to ride on the speedway?? Really?! It goes about 5 mph and is on a track lol. I think I might take my chances with that one.

Haha I *think* it's because you can get bumped! Same thing on Safari in AK.. There's a human factor - Disney doesn't want to be liable!
  • I'm surprised the buzz light year ride in magic kingdom is on the list. Oh well.

We're going to Disney next week so this post has been helpful! :)

I'll probably follow the advisories and won't go on those rides.
  • Side note.. I want this shirt for our trip.
  • I'm heading to Disney in two weeks - can't wait!  The Epcot Food & Wine Festival runs through November 16th this year, which is what I'm especially looking forward to.  All I do is snack all day anyway  :-)
  • So jealous! I've been trying to convince DH for one more Disney trip before baby comes but for a weekend trip it will be too much money.
Disney is definitely more Prego-friendly than Universal.
We live in SW Florida and were annual passholders last year...we went 10 times but I miss it!!
  • Yes, when I was 6 weeks with my son. I could only go on 2-3 rides at the Universal parks so to me, that was a waste of money. Though, some parts were still cool like drinking frozen butter beer at Harry Potter and hanging out in "Springfield." Disney is very preggo friendly though! Many rides are totally safe at all the parks. You just have to avoid coasters and splash mountain (anything with g-force). But I rode so many things! They have guidelines on their website.
