Moms on Call 2-4 Weeks Typical Day - Could this really work?!

After a few rough, sleepless nights I decided to try and follow the Moms on Call 2-4 Weeks typical day to see if I could get LO on some type of schedule.

Today was the first day and I have to say that I was not optimistic.

Right now LO is sleeping soundly in her crib.  Her crib that I have not been able to get her to lay in for more than five minutes without screaming.  And so soundly that is freaking me out and I keep checking to see if she's breathing! Damned if I do, damned if I don't LOL.

This may be short lived but right now...I'll take it!

Does anyone else have any experience with moms on call?

  • My good friend did it that early and swears by it. I hope it works for you!

  • Not familiar. What is it?

It's a basic baby care guide. They have books, a website, and I believe an iPhone app as well.

  • Are you using formula or breastfeeding? I heard it is difficult to follow if nursing.

I do a heavily edited version of Moms on Call and it is still successful. My pediatrician warned against following it too strictly bc she has seen babies get dehydrated from missing too many feedings at night. Basically, if you baby wakes up in the night you need to feed her, regardless of what the schedule says. Same during the day. I EBF, but I don't think it matters if you BF or FF when it comes to this.

My LO is 6 weeks and we consistently get two 4 hour stretches, but not always. He is also pretty consistent in his daytime feedings, but I let him lead exact timing.
  • @klhelder Can you give a description of what it is that you're doing?
  • My LO is 4 weeks and we have been doing moms on call for almost 2 weeks. We are EBF and it has worked well for us so far. I let him dictate the night feedings. If he wakes in the night I feed immediately. Currently we have one feeding at night between 2 and 3 and then he is ready again between 6 and 7 am. During the day we generally have one extra feeding and I just try to get back on schedule by 6 pm. Other days we go by the schedule and he is happy. It has made me a lot less stressed as I have a plan versus just seeing how the day pans out.
